The food overall was good, but a bit on the pricey side. The lowlight: peach bruschetta, which was expensive and nothing special; it was not up to the level of other items we tried.
The service is excellent, friendly, informative and prompted. Atmosphere is great. Unfortunately, the rotisserie chicken dish we ordered was very under cooked. Other than that, everything was good experience. Will be back. The warm chocolate cake is a must try dessert!
The food is decent but not outstanding for the SF area. Probably the reason we got a table at the last minute. I had the roasted chicken and the meat was dry, especially the white meat. Almost chalky. It is cut up and placed on a bed of salad. Dressing was really good, but if they had not cut up the chicken it might have been moister. Nobody at the table raved about the food.
we enjoyed Lulu's very much. We have been there before, so this was a return visit.
The staff were very good, but the place was empty on a saturday night and the food wasn't great for the price you are paying, I think the place has become stale and need to recreate itself, seems to be living off past glories...
A little disappointed with LuLu. Wasn't crazy about the food selection and when we did order, they were out of what we wanted. We opted for the half chicken dish. The chicken was decent, but the presentation had the salad sort of interestingly dumped on top of the chicken. Besides that, there were just a handful of potato chunks as our side. The waiter told us we could share this dish and I think that's barely accurate. I think in SF, there are much better places to dine.
Service was great, but food and ambiance were lacking.
On the way to LuLu, there were construction on the street and
In the night time, I felt not safty.
Restaurant service was good, Menu was great, and enough manu of drinks, including local wine.
I came to Lulu's for the first time 20 years ago, the second, third and 4th time 12 years ago and last Tuesday was my 5th time (in 3 San Fran visits) . I love the restaurant and will continue to come back :)
We visted Lulu on Mother's Day! They managed the occasion very well, and it was fun to see all the families there. Food was excellent, service professional and efficient, and friendly.
The staff wasn't prepared for the lunch crowd that came in. I took us 1hr to get our lunch.
Very noisy, tasteless music(?) all through dinner. The place looks more like a cafeteria than a restaurant.
It is well located
We had a group of 9 people and had a great experience. The food is served family style and our waitress was very helpful in guiding our order to assure we had an appropriate amount of food. Everything was absolutely amazing, will go again with a large group.
We were seven people celebrating our daughter's birthday. Our daughter is a wheelchair user and we also brought our boisterous seven-year-old grandson. Space was adequate and our daughter's food was pureed when requested, to a perfect texture. Individual requests were honored too. Servers approached us in just the right frequency, no hovering. The bill was a bit on the high end, but then so was the food. Oh, the frittura mista was a bit overcooked & dry; the only exception to a perfect evening.
I had a very friendly greeting from Ryan the moment I walked in. The atmosphere felt alive and the food was fantastic! Looking forward to going again next visit to San Francisco.
We were expecting more from this restaurant. Wine list was over priced as was the food for the quality. The bruschetta was $14 for 2 pieces?! Steak was over done and bland. Roast chicken was ok. Pizza was the best thing on menu. Would not return.
We used to go to LuLu several times a year but haven't been in about 18 months and was disappointed in the fact that they no longer have valet parking, and our old favorites were not on the menu however they did make our Cheve cheese appetizer we requested( not quite the same). The roasted chicken was more like a Cornish hen... Very little meat on that bird. Now you have to pay for bread. But, the staff are terrific! They go out of their way to please. We had chicken, pizza, steak, pasta and everyone thought their food was OK..not great!
Great food and wine but a bit slow service.
The food at LuLu has taken a serious drop in quality over the years. With so many restaurants in the area now LuLu needs to find the passion in their food again. If they can't I won't be back.
Gets packed quickly after 6PM
Food is great when there isn't Charcoal bits and pieces or was it rocks/sand pieces in my dish. Yuck!
Better luck next time
OK, it was Oscar night and the place was empty, but our party of 14 had a great evening. Outstanding service, great food based upon recommendations of our lead waiter, good selection of wine made everyone happy. Been at Lulu's when it was jammed and an equally good time.
Hadn't been to LuLu for many years (moved to the East Bay) - went back just to check out an old haunt and found the food be better than ever
Decent wine list, nice variety of items on the menu, and portion sizes were generous.
The service was top notch! Missy the bartender was outstanding her cocktails were excellent . Alicia our server was beyond attentive and a joy to be around. The bussers and food runners were professional and very courteous. The kitchen is going to hate me but the food was just not that great. I'm sorry. But I am going to come back and give it another try. And I will rewrite this review if the food is better. ..again I'm sorry kitchen.
always enjoy our visit to lulu's when in town....am in love with your mussels !!!
I have been known to walk out of LuLu's without ordering due to the noise level. But 11:30 on a Wednesday afternnoon for lunhy was wonderful! No noise, pleasant atmosphere, everything was quite delightful. First time I got to really enjoy this restaurant.
Really neat place! Food and service were very good. Nice experience!
Haven't been here for years and never for lunch but, when I was looking for a lunch meeting place near the convention center I chose Lulu. I and my lunch guest were not disappointed. It doesn't seem to have changed after all these years including its atmosphere and good, reasonably priced, food. Wide and interesting choices on the menu and the food we got - pizza and salad was just right. I will be back much more quickly than I have been over the last several years.
Have been going to LuLu for several years now and always have a great experience. Missing some of the past staff who when we went more often we became very well acquainted with but aside from that it's a solid choice
I first experienced Lulu when my daughter was a teen and a picky eater. We loved it.
Now she is married, and last week we met a favorite cousin there w/ my 1 yr old granddaughter. Yes, she is particularly adorable and well behaved, but the staff was so welcoming and the service was impeccable. The waitperson even took the time for a sweet photo. Food was great but not outstanding; I would not recommend it for food snobs!!
This was not our first visit and won't be our last. The pizza is always superb and the appetizers bursting with flavor. The cocktails are well prepared and the 6oz wine pour is a generous at a great price. The staff was, as always, attentive and thoughtful, and dessert was a sweet way to end. The only thing we didn't love was the pork. It was over done and under seasoned, and the potatoes were over mixed (almost gummy) - not inedible just not to the restaurants standard. Overall we'll be back.
I haven't been to LuLus since I moved back to SF a few years ago after 10 years out of state. I use to frequent Lulus quite often back then and the overall quality and freshness of the food hasn't changed. Great and attentive service as always.
I have been to LuLu many times. This visit was another satisfying experience. The food is quite good. Check the menu online so that you can be sure there is a choice for you -- that is the same advice for all restaurants. I had a wonderful lentil soup and enjoyed a fresh, crisp, delicious salad. Other folks had a pork dish and enjoyed it very much. One suggestion: tables for 4 are rather close to each other or at least we were close to other tables. Just a couple of tables for 3 when possible would make space a bit more comfortable. This is not a reason to go elsewhere. When you are being seated, you can always check around you. Their signature specials are delightful. The bar folks make good drinks. The staff is as pleasant as can be.
I have eaten here on my last three trips to SF. Three of us shared the pork loin and the rosemary chicken and added a side of Brussels sprouts. Plenty of food. Entrees were served family style.....don't miss the Meyer lemon Creme brûlée. Delish!
Lulu's is consistently my go-to place for business lunches because the service and the food are great. Everyone who attends the lunch is always impressed.
We've been coming here for many years and recently revisited for the first time in a long time. We are glad to report that LuLu still has it--delicious, unpretentious good beautifully prepared and served in a relaxed, warm 'open-hearth' atmosphere.
Love the food! Service was great!
The food was good, but, their signature rotisserie chicken my favorite at LuLu) was slightly underdone. Almost sent it back.
We've been to LuLu's many times. Generally we have enjoyed all our past dinners. This one not so much, mainly due to our waiter's attitude and service (?Pauline). She was inattentive and rude. We were a party of 6 adults out for our Christmas get-together. We were also subject to an automatic 18% tip on parties of 6 or more which definitely wasn't deserved..
This is one of the best restaurants for lunch in the Moscone center area. Cheese ravioli are superb. Burgers are also very juicy, but not too fat. I noticed that pizzas were thick crust. I wonder if we could order thin crust as well.
