Lula Cocina Ratings and Reviews
We were really looking forward to this dinner, and ended up very disappointed. Our booth was way too small for 6 people, our waitress made one excuse after the next, it took 55 minutes to get our dinner, and only one of us actually enjoyed the food. Oh and the cocktails are served in oversized shot glasses, so that was the final straw.
I'd been here a few years back but hadn't returned prior to now and now I wish I had! They were absolutely slammed yet our server did a phenomenal job attending to us, making sure our order was accurate and not making us feel rushed. Food was terrific, try a variety of the margaritas! It can be a bit expensive if you come from out of town, but it's nothing vastly different from other restaurants in the area. I will definitely be back!
This is a place I describe to my friends and colleagues as THE place with the BEST Mexican food away from Mexico. Kudos to the person that made selection of the menu and cocktails. Some of those dishes are very hard to cook anywhere away from Mexico. This is not the stereotype of fast Mexican food, nor the overrated Tex-Mex food style. You can pick any option of the menu and you will have a great experience. For Mexicans living away from Mexico, this place will make you miss home. For drinks, if you are up to something different, nice and unusual, try the guava margarita. This is not the common "slushy" style drink. This place is my mandatory stop when visiting good L.A.!
Fun place with bright colors and strong Mexican feel. Watching the food come out from the kitchen is fun since it's all so gorgeous. The shrimp fajitas were good. My shrimp taco didn't fit inside the tortilla, so hard to hold and eat. I asked for 2 more tortillas and they came out piping hot.
If you are looking for a chain Mexican restaurant with a No. 8 combo, don't bother. This is not the place for you. The food here is authentic -- and delicious. There are several vegan choices and healthy options. We have been to this restaurant dozens of times and had a party on the back patio. We never have been disappointed. The menu was just changed, and one of our favorite dishes was eliminated. Still, there is something for everyone.
Great classic Mexican food! This place doesn't have anything particularly unique or crazy on their menu, just very solid staples of what you would want from a great Mexican restaurant. Tons of margarita options, great combination meals, and a very causal and fun atmosphere and the servers are super nice. Would definitely recommend if you want something affordable but still "nice" for a Santa Monica restaurant.
We had terrible service. Terrible. They didn't take our order for 45 minutes. Our food came as much as 15 minutes apart. Some food was great, some food came stone cold. They didn't refill drinks or clear plates, yet there was waitstaff standing around and chatting. It was terrible.
in our 3+ years of using OpenTable, this was the first time that the restaurant completely ignored the OpenTable system and did not hold a reservation for us. The host made it sound like they routinely ignore OpenTable. I recommend you remove them from your list as they do not abide by the OpenTable rules.
We arrived st 7:30 & didn't leave until 10pm which was shortly after we were served. At the time of ordering our food.....which took quite a long time, we were told that the kitchen was backed up. We asked how long it would take. The server didn't know & said they weren't short handed...they just got backed up. Over an hour passed. The server was not attentive. We kept asking if we could order an appetizer...or any food. The response was that it wouldn't come out right away because they were so backed up. Eventually the place cleared out and we still hadn't been served. It was well over an hour before we were served. We ate quickly and left. The food was delicious, but the experience was dampened from lack of service and attention considering the delay. Very disappointing. Eva use we love their food. If they were that backed up, they should have advised upcoming guests. Very poor handling of the situation.
Food was a bit pricey but portions are large. We had a group of eight that they tried to jam us in at a table meant for six people. We sat on the patio where the chairs were flimsy and the space was crowded. Server did not do a good job explaining the food or portion sizes. Pork was very dry.
The service absolutely awful. Took us at least 45 minutes to get our drinks. When we asked a waitress about it she basically responded "that's the way it is. We're really busy". Our waiter was very apologetic but didn't comp our drinks. They offered us a free dessert which would have taken another hour to get to us. They ended up giving us 25% off, which was less than the cost of drinks. Good food, nice wait staff, TERRIBLE service, and they really didn't handle it appropriately. I won't be back again. That's for sure.
Live in the neighborhood and was quite disappointed. I had tried this place during the taste of main street and was not impressed but we thought we would give it a go. It was so loud in the backroom that I couldn't hear the person sitting in the next room. The food was marginal and we had to flag down someone for water. We will not be going back to this place. Such a shame, really wanted to give it the benefit of a doubt despite the yelp reviews.
Went here to meet friends from out of town and catch up. The atmosphere was lively in a good way - not too loud, but busy with a good vibe. We had margaritas and dinner. The margaritas were great - better than most - would pass the foodie test. Also, the menu had something for everyone and the food was quite good. I liked that you could choose ala carte or a combo plate, so you did not have to stuff yourself. I could imagine bringing the family here too.
