Luigi's Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
My friends (wedding party) have been meeting at Luigi's annually around Christmastime for maybe the last 15 years and have never been disappointed. Before finding Luigi's (a great midpoint for people coming from eastern Nassau, Brooklyn & Queens), we would go to a different restaurant each year and never really settled on a regular place before finding this gem. Once again, we went last night and enjoyed a terrific meal, evening together.
No matter how many times we dine at Luigi's we are never disappointed. The food is always delicious, the portions generous and this time, in particular, our server, Joe, made it even better. We were a large group of 7 and he was totally attentive. This is our favorite Italian restaurant.
Make sure that you are not seated by unsupervised noisy and bratty children! We had a group of 11 adults that were looking forward to a holiday dinner filled with conversation and could not hear each other because the kid table was placed by our group and they screamed and carried on throughout dinner!
The food was fantastic, and this is exactly the reason why I go to Luigi's.
But this most recent time I went, I was incredible disappointed in the service.
I had made reservations for my husband's birthday - I called the restaurant twice to confirm that the server would be coming out at the end of the meal with a birthday cake (which I had given them earlier).
When I walked in, I assumed the hostess knew this plan since I had called earlier that day. When I handed her the cake discreetly, she was completely unaware and said out loud "there is a serving fee".
The surprise did not work out, our server had no idea we even had a cake.
I was pretty upset - the staff needs to communicate better.
How do you run out of the best bread that you have and then for the hour and a half we were eating there keep telling you they are still making it? The food was very salty which it usually isn’t. And the waitress we had was horrible as well. We usually eat there 4x a month, but we’ll be taking a break for a bit.
Truthfully, I would go to Luigi’s just for the delicious bread and amazing pesto dip. But the rest of the menu is also outstanding. This past Friday evening they shocked me. The maitre ‘d, who I’d never met before, came to my table and said, “We have lamb osso buco. I heard you like that.” This is an amazing dish that used to be on the regular menu, but now appears as a special only occasionally. It so happens that the last time I was in the restaurant, I said to a different person that it would be great to get it back on the menu. She responded that others have also said that. The puzzling thing is figuring out how the maitre ‘d was able to link that to me! Needless to say I ordered the lam osso buco and loved every bite.
First time here and we really enjoyed everything from the colossal meatball appetizer to my pasta with braised short ribs and let me not forget our dessert - bombolini cinnamon, sugar cream filled fresh donuts with Nutella to dip. Over all we are very happy we stubbled upon Luigi’s. We will be regulars.
