Luigi's Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
How do you run out of the best bread that you have and then for the hour and a half we were eating there keep telling you they are still making it? The food was very salty which it usually isn’t. And the waitress we had was horrible as well. We usually eat there 4x a month, but we’ll be taking a break for a bit.
Truthfully, I would go to Luigi’s just for the delicious bread and amazing pesto dip. But the rest of the menu is also outstanding. This past Friday evening they shocked me. The maitre ‘d, who I’d never met before, came to my table and said, “We have lamb osso buco. I heard you like that.” This is an amazing dish that used to be on the regular menu, but now appears as a special only occasionally. It so happens that the last time I was in the restaurant, I said to a different person that it would be great to get it back on the menu. She responded that others have also said that. The puzzling thing is figuring out how the maitre ‘d was able to link that to me! Needless to say I ordered the lam osso buco and loved every bite.
First time here and we really enjoyed everything from the colossal meatball appetizer to my pasta with braised short ribs and let me not forget our dessert - bombolini cinnamon, sugar cream filled fresh donuts with Nutella to dip. Over all we are very happy we stubbled upon Luigi’s. We will be regulars.
The building / ambience is ‘old’ and ‘simple’., traditional. Parts of the building show what were once proud painted enticements about grandmas own pasta recipe etc.
Pasta is fresh made and all portions are substantial. Apart from the dining and function areas there is a thriving bar community. Food was well prepared, hot and tasty. They’re quite accommodating when it comes to dietary needs / whims. Gluten free pasta is limited to penne.
Unfortunately, the location is just within NY City limits so parking is limited to painful on street (metered during the day) parking. You can be lucky or may need to allow extra time to park. Side streets tend not to be metered but spaces can BA at a premium.
My Italian wife considers it a little gem ....
Luigi's has a professional ambience to it that is hard to top. The staff were attentive, the menu was well furnished, and for the food quantities/quality experience it was not considerably pricey. --Would highly recommend--
This is my third visit to Luigi's in the last 2 months. Our friends introduced us to the restaurant and we loved it so much we went back 2 more times. We happened to get the same waiter all 3 times and what a nice guy. Everything we ate was delicious grilled octopus, lamb chops, shrimp and lobster risotto. The fresh fuchsia bread and pesto dipping sauce. Honored our reservation timely, great service and wonderful all at a reasonable price.
This was our second trip to Luigi's. Our friends introduced us to the place. We loved it so much we returned on our own. The food is really good, the portions are VERY large and the price is quite reasonable. We loved everything we had. The shrimp and risotto is delicious, the lamb chops also delicious. They have this great pesto dipping sauce for the bread to start. They are super friendly and wait staff is great. Honored my reservation within 5 minutes.
