Someone started reaching over and clearing the table before we were all done. It was quite abrupt.
I try to come here anytime I'm attending an event at the Garden, & it's always been enjoyable even when the service was slow as that was usually due to it being busy, which is understandable. Food has always been good.
This time though (4/8/19), was easily my least enjoyable experience, & ironically it was the least busy I've seen it. I guess the Pennsy has taken a bit of business away from them.
Our server was very aloof, & I was left with an empty drink for 10 minutes before I was able to make contact requesting another. It seems after a misunderstanding where the server was under the impression we were only ordering appetizers, he was no longer attentive at all. Regardless, this isn't an excuse to dismiss a table. He did not return to our table after taking our order (aside from when I initiated contact for a 2nd drink, a wine, which I had to pour myself) until it was clear we were finished w/our appetizers & to ask if we wanted the check. By then, we did not want to spend any more money there, & went elsewhere for dinner. We were a two top that ordered 3 substantial appetizers, & were planning on ordering two more entrees, two more rounds of drinks, & possibly even dessert. Ironically, he tried twice to pick up my credit card slip before I had signed it. I still left an 18+% tip as I typically leave 25+% for good service.
The appetizers we did have were good as always, and the back waiters were competent and pleasant. Servers should never give up on a table, as there are always opportunities to take care of their guests, & increase their checks. I will be back as I've mostly had good experiences there. If you haven't tried it, it's still worth a visit. You can't beat the convenience, & if you're looking for a sit down spot as opposed to the chaos over at Pennsy, then give this place a try.
Being close to the garden, I was skeptical but the food was delicious. I would go back and recommend.
Juliana made menu suggestions and all was great
Great meatballs and the cheese plate a must have
Nice interior, close to MSG. Service was a little bit slow. The bread was a little stale. It was an okay meal but not stellar. Last visit was better. Still a good place to go given closeness to MSGarden and a decent menu. Not a foodie experience
Waiter wanted us to rush. Didn't deliver apitiser
Food was good but the hurry up and order killed the mood
Billy Joel concert
We come here because of its location, we enjoy it here because Dave treats us like royalty. Want to enjoy solid food, near MSG with ownership that cares?? Then Lugo is the spot. Wonderful as always!
This has been our "go to" spot for events @ MSG. Last Saturday was a disappointment. Food was so bland (chicken, steak and pork chop). Service was poor. Server seemed generally cranky and he kept forgetting things. The whole thing was just "off". Time for a change next time we're in town for an event.
On behalf of my mother and me, I would like to thank David and his staff. You guys really made my 80 year old mother feel like a Queen on her birthday. We can't thank you enough. Food and service were simply fantastic!
Food was excellent and the location was great. Service was a little slow.
Great service and a nice place for lunch. It is a little noisy.
This is a great lunch and dinner spot for all that work and/or visit the Penn Plaza/Station area. There are not many options around and we always make reservations if dinner is the plan. Long waits if you don’t. Some nights there is live music but the extremely loud nature of this after 5 spot makes it almost impossible to benefit from it. Bar is always lively and the food is very good.
Overall, I thought the restaurant was pretty good. Not many options near MSG.
The location and service make Lugo Cucina worth going to if you need a restaurant near Penn Station. However, the food is very mediocre. I had eggplant parmigiana which was dry and tasteless. My friend had spaghetti which was overcooked and soft. These are two easy dishes to prepare well. I'd go again but solely for the convenience waiting for a train.
Took two hours for a simple meal. Waited an hour between appetizers and main course. Even then, only 3 of our four meals arrived. The three of us were almost finished when the 4th meal came. The food is good but this place doesn’t know how to manage their kitchen. This has happened before but we gave them another chance. Never again.
Very good food, friendly staff, but kind of loud during happy hour as expected but definitely would recommend.
Great restaurant to go to before an event at MSG
Food was slow, we had informed wait staff that we would be attending a concert We arrived earlier than our reservation and ordered by 6:35. Food arrived much later than anticipated. The gnochhi ordered by one in our party was inedible and cold. We had no time to order a replacement as we were already way behind in timing. Waiter kindly did bring us a birthday dessert gratis, which was very thoughtful.
Overall, it was enjoyable, though not the steallar experience we had expected.
We loved our experience at Lugo Cucina. Our server walked us through the menu in a professional manner, the food was delivered timely, the food and drinks were delicious. Many thanks to the owner for sharing his limoncello with us. It was most certainly a treat AND a surprise. Highly recommended.
Great location next to MSG. For large place actually easy to talk. Food was good. I would definitely go back. Very friendly staff.
We had another terrific time at Lugo. We came in before the Knick game and was surprised to see live entertainment. We asked to sit at one of the tall tables in the bar area so we could hear the music. The man played piano, guitar, harmonica AND sang. Great little bonus in addition to the fantastic service and food. Thank you Lugo. (Dave, thanks for the lemoncello.... it was delish!)
good lunch in One Pen,
the meatball was great , the chicken parm was also very good
Service was excellent, until the waiter felt it was necessary to tell us that “it is customary to tip between 18 - 20%. Normally, with as good service as we recieved, we would have left 20-25%, but based on being told what we should tip, we gave 15%. The atmospehere was very loud. The food was very good.
I have eaten here a number of times. Tonight was NOT good. I don’t want to blame the server 100% it was obvious that she was under water. It was game night so everyone is trying to get in and out. Order was messed up, service was slow, credit card charged for wrong dinner and not sure that it really will be cleared up without a call etc. Manager very busy snoozing another table. Other lead oerson was condescending to me and tried to tell me that the server had just clipped wrong check to wrong receipt. I will update this once I figure out how this is going to be rectified.
Great experience. I will be back! Only negative is one ladies room especially when trying to go to sn event after dinner.
A gem near Penn station! We always dine here before a concert at MSG! Food is delicious, great service! Highly recommend!
Pre show dinner at msg. Perfect spot
Great food nice atmosphere
Great place to go before any show at the garden. Service was wonderful
Nice lunch at the bar good wine by the glass,
Server Juliana was very helpful and made great recommendations
Perfect location for pre concert at MSG. Service wasn’t great and we had to send things back as not ordered and not cooked as ordered. Disappointing as we did not all eat at the same time. Ultimately food good. I am not running back.
The first time at this restaurant was in August. It was MUCH busier! And louder! This time in February-Valentines day-not as busy. The food on our first visit was fantastic. This visit however both of our meals were overly salty. My husband got the chicken parmigiana which was a gigantic portion and I got the spinach ricotta ravioli. Both dishes on their own, with the amount of cheese that is in them, contain enough salt but someone either added it to the recipe or something but both dishes were overpowered with saltiness. I would give them a 3rd chance, but if our meal doesn’t blow our hair back, we won’t be returning. There are way too many other restaurants to choose from than to settle..
Great spot for a business lunch! Our food came out in less than 10 minutes, it was well prepared and the portions were generous. Will be my "go to" lunch spot near Penn Station.
Very good wait service and location. The meal was one of the worst I have had in Manhattan in 20+ years. Needed a spot close to Penn for a casual work meal with a few colleagues. The meatball app was ok - the pizza/flatbread app rivaled that of a bad frozen pizza. The branzino was poor, pasta was severely undercooked (even for someone that likes al dente) and the chicken parm was of the quality one would expect out of a premade frozen dinner. Really poor food quality.
Disappointed. The quality of the service and food was below what we typically have had at Lugo’s
Arrived early for Monday lunch - promptly seated good table. Sterling location by PS/MSG. Comfortable ambience and pleasing aesthetics. GREAT service and appropriate pace - thanx Danny. Meal was well-prepared and well-presented. Thoroughly enjoyable visit and we easily made our train. We'll definitely return.
Overall good service. Quality of food good. Fairly noisy but they accommodated by giving us a booth in less noisy area. Thought value not great. $32 for two large meatballs with very small serving of spaghetti was too much. Also $10 for half serving of spaghetti too much as well.
Good food at reasonable prices
