We are locals and have been coming to Lucy periodically for years; we have had both good and poor experience mostly related to service. Today's visit was overall a disappointing and expensive experience. The venue is nice and upscale; the table service was quite good and much improved from prior years and saved the meal. However the food is simply too complicated and the plates too busy. The wine list has degraded over the years and today is far too limited and seriously overpriced. And to charge $50 per bottle for corkage fee is insulting. I don't see us returning anytime soon unless some material changes take place. What a shame.
Stayed at Bardessono for a night and included Lucy. Slow night for the restaurant but perfect for our date. Delicious food and very nice glasses of wine. We did find the King’s Cup a bit too sweet for our tastes but everything else was wonderful. Next time we may skip the risotto but it may have just paled in comparison to the other dishes.
Amazing food. Beautiful setting. The only hitch was they were about 20 minutes late on seating us for our reservation and service was rather slow. However, they did send us a complimentary appetizer and comped a corkage fee and gave us a comp glass of champagne to make it up. I would definitely go there again.
The servers were good but the atmosphere needs a lot of work. My food was mediocre - the beet salad, which was to be the house specialty - was very very light on the cheese and too heavy on very cold beets, my scallop main course with corn pancakes (too salty and did not seem to be cooked enough) was better but in a food town like Yountvile there are far too many other choices. My husband’s meal of gnocchi appetizer and salmon main course was better - but the ambiance, need to drastically improve (only 3 tables seated at 7pm, no music and kitchen noise reverberating through the space) this was our second visit but there won’t be a third.
Considering Lucy is a five-minute walk from the Michelin Three-Star French Laundry in Yountville, this modern restaurant is a hidden gem. We had the dining room to ourselves on a Sunday night only six weeks after the Atlas fires roared within a mile of the property. It was a beautiful dinner, full stop. My wife and I shared two starters - a baby beet salad with fried goat cheese and hand-rolled gnocchi in kale pesto, tartufata and parmesan. The main dish was memorable, we each had the sesame ahi tuna, and it was the best we've ever had. The oyster mushrooms around the sliced tuna chunks were mysterious and full of different flavors - we chased down the chef later to congratulate and get his explanation "sautéed two hours in white wine and grapeseed oil at low temperature". Add in the baby bok choy, sea beans and chinese noodles, and we even mentioned this dish to our hosts the next evening when we ate at the French Laundry. But that's another story. Lucy is worth the visit when you come to Napa.
The menu said that it had a half chicken dinner. I ordered it and received a piece of a breast and half of a wing. No drum stick or thigh. The taste was excellent though. My wife ordered soup and it was cold when she received it so she sent it back. We were the only people there so these mistakes should not have happened. We’ll try it again.
Clearly a total lack of restaurant management skills. The waiter didn’t come by the table for more than 10 minutes. We had been provided menus for brunch, which was not being served, we were provided breakfast menus and ordered .... after 30 minutes, we engaged the manager who apologized and started to provide coffee & tea... while running out of coffee, one cup was left empty....she never revisited. Food delivered , and waiter didn’t revisit until we requested the check. COMPLETE FAILURE!!! Do yourself a favor, eat anywhere else!!!!
By the way, food delivered cold.
What an insult to the Hotel & Spa!
Service was okay. Food, not so good. Gnocchi was horrible. The first round it came out it was frozen in the center. When the manger came over she took it back. My lunch guest had already finished his meal by the time mine was returned. It was clear they microwaved it again and it came out the consistency of mashed potatoes. I ate a couple of bites and it was not eatable. Manager never came back to check and the item was still on our bill. The manager seemed to not even care about the bad outcome even though she was the the one to try and render the situation. So many better restaurants here. Don’t waste your time.
Not sure why Lucy’s just can’t get a good chef. The property is beautiful! But our dishes were a mix match of items that should never be put together and there was no taste to the meal. It was very disappointing plus paying so much for a meal that just doesn’t match the hotel. Won’t be back.
Excellent restaurant. Great food and service. We sat outside on the patio and it was very serene and romantic. The gnocchi was amazing so light weight and flavorful. The sesame crusted Ahi was delicious as well as the tomato and burrata salad. A new favorite.
Lucy's provide outstanding food and great service. They also provide an option of small plates from the list of entrees that is great for sampling or for those with smaller appetites. The outdoor patio is very nice for dinner. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good food and service.
We spent 4 nights in Yountville and this was hands down the best meal we had! Creative doesn't even begin to describe it! Add to that delicious from drinks to dessert in a awesome contemporary setting! Striploin with tomato bacon relish, foil gras and mushroom encroute, yum! Baby beet salad with fried goat cheese and wild arugula mousse beautifully presented and delicious! I can't forget to mention the 3 crime brûlée dessert, root beer with sarsaparilla, s'mores and mocha!
Lucy is trying to be a high-end restaurant and when it comes to their service and setting they hit the mark. The outdoor patio seating is great. The food however I have to say was hit and miss. We started with Foie Gras and I found that dish to be odd. Flavors were somehow off and the presentation was also a bit weird in that all the plate was arranged in a half moon at the top of a plate with the rest of the plate being empty. We followed with seared Ahi, Duck breast and sirloin tip given that they offer half portions of the mains if you wish to create a tasting menu.
The Ahi dish was from my mind and pallet the best dish of the evening. The flavors were well balanced and the Ahi was really nicely seared with a tasty crust. My husband also rated the sirloin tip as being a tasty dish. The duck breast to me was lacking flavor a bit somehow. It was served on a bed of shaved brussel sprouts and duck confit which I found to be more tasty than the pieces of duck breast itself. For dessert they proposed fried cheesecake. This sounded a bit odd to me, but we went for it. It was a gooey cheesecake within a small crispy wrapper that was open on both ends served with a compote of some sort. Tough to eat with fingers and you could taste the oil that it was fried in.
Lucy, we love the ambiance of your patio and your service was tops, but the chef needs a bit of support to take the cuisine to the next level if you are to truly be a 4.5/5 star restaurant.
We stayed at Bardesonno for our anniversary. I would highly recommend it as a destination. Lucy Restaurant and Bar was also a great find. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and attentive, the ambiance is lovely, great food! We also had breakfast there - again, all excellent.
The food was tremendous, very tasty. The service was a bit too pretentious for our taste. Took us too long to get the wine. Wine somm brought wine after ten minutes but then left it on our table without opening. We had the waitress open. Scary thing is there were only three tables with oeople in them.
It saddens me to say we did not have a great experience during our last visit to Lucy. I have been there for dinner at least once every time I visit the Valley. Something was just "off." The service was terrible, we never saw our server beyond when we placed our order. I truly love this place. I am hoping we just caught them on an off night. The food was just average as well. What a bummer.
Started out well. Party of 9. Main courses were slow and one entre was 15 minutes behind all the others. Desserts took 20 minutes to serve. Noise level increased significantly due to one very loud table. Food delicious but many other choices in Napa/Yountville without the negatives.
