Since opening in 1998 Lucques has garnered extraordinary accolades and is now recognized as one of the country’s best restaurants. It's California cuisine with French and Mediterranean influences is served in the warm and intimate setting of the rustic carriage house of the original Harold Lloyd estate.
One of the reasons for the all the acclaim is the Sunday Supper, the night that best exemplifies the original mission of owners Chef Suzanne Goin and Sommelier Caroline Styne, by offering seasonal prix fix menus that re-create the atmosphere of a relaxed family dinner.

Lucques Ratings and Reviews
The food was nicely prepared and presented. I wish there had been more choice in the dishes provided. We were there for a weekday lunch and there were only about 4 or 5 choices. I have always like the food at Lucques, so it was a bit disappointing that there weren't more dishes to select from.
Vastly overrated and overpriced. Appetizers were non-descript (scallop dish was all potatoes and too oily, salad was meager). Entrees were not good (my wife had the short rib, which was mostly fat and gristle (too fatty even for short rib). I had the fish, overcooked and nothing special. Also, the 3.5% charge for employee health care is just plain tacky, especially given the price of the meal, and the reasons posted on their website (we can't make money otherwise) are unpersuasive. 99% of the restaurants in LA can make a profit without charging their customers for health care. If Lucques can't do the same, they should not be in business.
We went for our anniversary and they took such good care of us! From a welcome glass of champagne to nice conversations with the manager, and ending with a sweet wish of “Happy Anniversary” written in icing on our dessert plate, our visit was a delight from start to finish. The food was superb, complex flavors in bold combinations - for example the steak tartare was served on a tiny slice of potato. Just imaginative and divine. We’ll be back.
Everything was lovely.
My one negative comment is if you have a 6 PM reservation, & you arrive a little early they keep you waiting outside even if it’s cold and the maître d’ is a little rude. Also the windows are black so it almost appears as though the restaurant is closed. My husband thought it was closed.
Rather than seating us, the maître d’ herded us towards the waiting area or the bar, even when I said I preferred to be seated. (Our friends had not yet arrived.) He explained incongruously that our table would be needed at 8:15.
It was an unpleasant start to a very pleasant evening.
We were celebrating a birthday. When we walked in the maitre'de told us at seating, he
hoped we would be out by 8:00, our reservation was 6:30. The service was good as they
were trying to rush us through. the food was just adequate, my fish was overcooked, and
the ice cream was melting at service. The bathroom was dirty. For the prices they charge,
I will never go back or recommend to a friend.
We went to Lucques for the first time on New Year's Eve. We were at the first seating, however we never felt rushed. The service and the food were outstanding. The wine pairing was the way to go and each wine went perfectly with each course. It was a special evening made more special by the expert staff in the front and back of the restaurant. Lucques was the perfect choice for NYE. We definitely want to return and are also interested in their Sunday Suppers.
I rarely publish details of my meal experience at restaurants - I tend to just fill out the major points. However, I feel compelled to forewarn folks this time. Like most of the bad reviews on OpenTable, the major issue we had with Lucques was the service. We were seated promptly. However, we sat for 30 mins. with no one approaching us if we were ready to order. Trust me, we timed it and made sure everyone noticed how we kept checking our watches. I ended up flagging someone just so we can at least order something to drink. Meanwhile, there was a female server taking care of the 3 tables that surrounded us. The couple next to us were seated 5 mins. before us, and the server had already taken their order. Through the course of our meal, we had to keep flagging someone to get any assistance or to place additional orders. We ended up being helped by various different people as opposed to having a designated server. We are of Asian descent but more American than the folks sitting next to us. We could not help but think that our race may have been a factor of how inattentive the server was of our table - as opposed to the couple next to us who were visiting from Texas where the server went as far as to make sure their food allergies were addressed. We found the food to be delicious, but they definitely failed on customer service. It saddens us that we will never return to this place. We've received better treatment at more prestigious restaurants than this place.
Lucques offers excellent food, with local produce and seasonal choices. The food is always scrumptious, thoughtfully prepared and presented with care and attention to detail. All of the staff work hard to make the meal a pleasant experience, quickly remembering preferences. They are responsive to questions and work hard to manage any food allergies that may need attention.
The special cocktail menu evolves and is always tasty, too.
