Lucky 32 Southern Kitchen - Greensboro Ratings and Reviews
Food was excellent, very fresh, cooked very good, seasonal choices. Service is top notch, they keep a good check on you. We sat in the bar area which we prefer, good lighting for ambience. Overall one of our go to restaurants for a good meal you can always count on.
The restaurant was beautiful, the ambiance was great and the food was delicious..my cousin raves about this restaurant every time he returns home to New York, so it only made sense that we go while visiting family in the Greensboro area. I and my other family members all enjoyed everything we ordered. I will definitely be returning.
The choice of local produce and butcheries is one of the reasons I choose the restaurant. Another draw for me is that the menu changes with the seasons.
The restaurant has good acoustics so that you can have a conversation with your friends without having to shout.
We went to get a traditional new years meal, ie, greens, black eyed peas, some kind of pork dish, etc. They had a very good approach and even though the hoppin' john was kind of bland, we enjoyed the meal. I don't dine here often as it is usually crowded and reservations are not something I bother with ordinarily but this was a good call and I'll come back again. BTW, the collard greens were excellent and their treatment of sweet potatoes, not my favorite, was quite good.
We come to Lucky 32 every year for our New Year's Day brunch. We used to come more often, but we've noticed the food isn't as great as it has been in the past. It's never bad or not good quality; it's just not memorable. Personally, it used to be better several years ago. I know there was a chef change, so maybe that's been the problem. This is to say, that we really only come once or twice a year now, usually for New Year's Day so we can get a traditional meal. My husband and I got the two specials: country ham and pork loin. They came with hopping john, corn bread, collards, and sweet potatoes. Overall, our meals were good. My mom didn't seem too impressed with her salmon. My biggest critique was how slow our server was... my husband had to ask for sugar with his coffee (he originally only got one packet). The waiter said he would keep him topped off, but my husband was constantly having to ask for more coffee. Our starter came out quickly, but our kids' meals, which we asked to come out first, came out 10 minutes after the app. It seemed like we waited for our main course meals to come out for 20 minutes. Normally, we see our waiters more often, but every time we needed something, we seemed to be asking another waiter. Then, we were halfway through our dessert, our waiter wanted to take away the plate. Come on, man, we rarely see you during our meal, and then, you're trying to rush us out the door. I know several tables were seated and left during the time we were there, but it wasn't because we were slow eaters, instead, you couldn't get your food out in a timely manner. Overall, it's a decent place, but I think their other Greensboro-area restaurants are better: Printworks and Green Valley Grill.
Shared New Years Day lunch with friends. Food delicious except for the hopping John side dish and the 'special' chocolate cake. Both were really dry. The wait staff was excellent throughout, and offered a substitute dessert when I shared my opinion. All of the other foods were excellent. We had made reservations so there was no wait. Definitely will return.
The staff was very friendly. the bartender gave us great conversation as we waited for our table. The best part about this place is the appetizers; they were amazing. The flash fried oysters were outta this world. Unfortunately, the entrees were just so-so. My wife really liked the crab cakes but I thought they were too much cake, not enough crab.
Overall I'd recommend this place, if only for the delicious appetizers!!!
We had the chicken and it was good, but would have preferred it to be crispy For sure not Southern style.
The cornbread was way too sweet---more like a dessert. It was not not prepared the Southern way. (No disrepect intended, but perhaps the chef should try my wife's tried and true recipe which is outstanding.)
We remarked on the few patrons in the dining room when we arrived for our reservation. Our orders ranged from soup to shrimp and grits, nothing extraordinary, yet we waited for over 30 minutes to be served. The food was very good. We had at least 3 different wait persons attend our table, so I don't know who the tip went to, but they were all very quiet and accommodating. As business picked up, it did become noisy. I like being able to make the reservation on line.
