Luciano's - Sugarloaf Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I have been here several times and have always enjoyed the food.
The first couple of times we dined at Luciano's it seemed to be a bit more of an intimate setting. This last time not so much. There seemed to be quite a few larger parties, which definitely affected the noise level. Not a big deal, but when I'm on date night, I'm not really interested in hearing ALL of the other conversations around me. They really need some way to separate the larger parties from the smaller parties.
Overall: great food, professional/ curteous staff, a bit on the pricey side. (If I could rate it a 4.5 I would)
I've been to Luciano's for a few different occasions. Started with business dinner, then wedding anniversary and most recent to treat my daughter after her schools father/daughter dance. Everytime I have never been totally disappointed or regretted my visit. My only critique this last visit is although the server was very sweet natured, she was more reserved than my previous visits. One treat I really look forward to is the opening fresh bread and tomato/olive oil spread. This time seemed to be more oily and less tomatoes...I usually need to use a fork to pile it on my bread. Our sparkling water glasses were always full, goat cheese app was heavenly and chicken picatta was tasty. With the fresh, but tart, spinach as a side, adding perhaps linguine noodles to break it up would have been nice. Overall, a wonderful hidden gem in Lawrenceville and would take any friend to impress.
Hockey game at 7:00, so the 6 of us got there at our reservation time of @ 5:45. There were only 4 other tables with people. That changed quickly, as it was full by 6:00. Appetizer of seared scallops with artichoke (wonderful!). Everyone loved their meals which were all different selections. Our waiter “Juan” was excellent even after his stations filled up.
This was our second time eating here and the “fresh” bread brought to the table was actually growing mold!!! The waiter apologized as did the manager but didn’t offer to rectify the situation. As over 6 people at our table had already consumed moldy bread before discovering it was indeed contaminated. Everyone got sick that night. Would not return to this establishment.
The food is always wonderful at Luciano's but on this particular day the kitchen was ridiculously slow. It took over 40 minutes from the time we ordered our food until it was at our table. I have been there for lunch before and it has never been like that. The server kept telling us it was the kitchen but I frankly wondered if perhaps our order wasn't submitted in a timely fashion. An entree salad, lasagna, and fettuccini alfedo really should be a normal table at an Italian restaurant. Perhaps Luciano's is a better special occasion, dinner restaurant than a lunch spot - even if lunch is a special occasion.
Total for two, $110, including wine, appetizer, salads, and coffee; not. incl. tip.
-Table ready at reserved time on a Saturday night, immediately seated
-Veal meatball appetizer was outstanding
-Fresh hot sliced bread was delicious
-Server was very attentive without being obnoxious, and how nice to be called "ma'am" and "sir" instead of "guys"
-Caprese salad was delicious but nearly frozen; I understand you make 'em early in the day and put 'em in the fridge, but don't rub my nose in it
-Live music was just a touch too loud for the space; should be background, not entertainment
Overall, a superior night out. You'll have to look past the strip-mall location (little weird to be next door to pet grooming at these prices) and judge this place on the food. Any Italian place lives and dies on its tomato sauce, and theirs is excellent. Mrs liked her salad and entree, and we were lucky with our wine choices. Nice interior, bar looked good.
Definitely worth an occasional trip, but you can get as good a meal at Ippolito's for half the price.
Was disappointed when leaving to see that the health score was only a 79. Would not have eaten there if I had seen that up front. The food was just ok and overpriced for what we had. $11 for a caprese salad with underripe tomatoes and 2 pieces of mozzarella seems a bit extreme. My pasta was undercooked, not even al dente. This was our 3rd visit to Luciano's and I do not think that we will return.
Outstanding! Authentic Italian food. If you have ever visited New York or New Jersey or even lived there, you know real Italian cuisine. This place has been transported from NY/NJ to Duluth GA. Come to find out from our server, the head chef is from New Jersey. They even get the bread delivered from NJ (amazing bread served with marinara). Food was amazing and the price was good for how much you get. Service is professional and attentive. Will visit again very soon.
Great service. The restaurant was packed at 7:15 pm on a Tuesday evening thus I was sure glad that I had reservations. Waitress and team were excellent. Only negative is that we were not finished with our appetizer of calamari when our entrees came. House Pinot Grigio was cold and Excellent. Cakarnari was food but needed more seasonings and was not quite as tender as they should be. The Veal Marsala was superb with the veal tender and the sauce was superb. We did not have dessert or a salad. $110 for two.
