The restaurant was quaint, but our table for two was in a corner right next to another table. It was difficult to have a private conversation we were so close. The food was great, but we were rushed in and out due to all of the parties who had reservations after ours.
The hostess sat us right next to the crowded group. When we asked for the empty table right next which was for four person, she yelled that the 4 person table was reserved previously. Our reservation for four was apparently not honored. After the bread was served she asked if we still wanted to move as the reservation was just cancelled. And shortly after she sat 2 people on that we originally requested table for four. The food was good. But we will not be going back because of the rude and disrespectful attitude of the hostess.
A bit disappointing. We were seated at a tiny table near the bar and restrooms despite having reservations weeks in advance. The waiter forgot to bring bread and had to ask twice for our wine order. The Chianti was bland and the sauce was far too sweet for the pasta and meatballs. The dessert choices were uninspiring. The only good part of the meal was a glass of nebbiolo and the bolognese pasta. First and last time at Lucca I’m afraid.
This was a very strange experience. We made reservations for 5:15 on 11/26/21 but arrived about 15 minutes early. My husband and I had expected to wait but were told they’d seat us soon. After waiting only a few minutes we were taken out on to a sightly covered porch all alone with two heat lamps in 30 degree weather, even though there were tons of open tables inside. When I asked why we were being seated outside they said the tables inside were for people who had made reservations. Even though we had also made reservations. I’m not quite sure who they were expecting that they didn’t want us to sit at any of those open tables? Honestly if we had not been so hungry from being at the museum all day, we would’ve left. I’m glad we didn’t though because the food was excellent and the service was good. Wedding soup, chicken picatta and chicken parmigiana. But after being treated that way without a reasonable explanation was rude and it also makes me not recommend the restaurant. NOTE: when we left ALL those tables were still open. Very odd to be treated in this manner.
We had a lovely lunch!
The food was delicious and the drinks were good too!
We chose Lucca because of its location and proximity to Carnegie Music Hall. I read a lot of reviews and was a tad nervous. We were also under a really tight time constraint that also made me nervous.
There was no reason for nerves. We were seated promptly. The room was lovely. We told the server of our time issue and he assured us we'd be in and out. We were presented a lovely wine list and got our bottle quickly. We ordered two appetizers and two salads. Food came out quickly. We shared the meatballs...which were super flavorful and excellent and the brussels sprouts...which were the best I've ever had. I will drive back to Oakland just for those sprouts! I wish I could remember our servers name because he was the only one and he had the entire room and did a fantastic job!
My only complaint is that it was very loud. Every party was crammed in to a small back room due to a large private party in the main dining room. Not a huge issue, but not pleasant.
It was very quiet . They had only one server Dana who was spectacular. The other server called in sick. Dana handled everything beautifully. The seafood fruit d’ mer was okay. The short rib risotto was unbelievably good.
good service, very friendly and fun, good food, reasonable prices, nice, cozy ambience, and they gave us free birthday desserts! also can't go wrong with half-priced bottles of wine
The food was amazing and so was our waiter. When you book, though, you may want to call and confirm you are not sitting on their “heated” porch. When we arrived and were seated out there, we asked to move inside due to the fact it was freezing out. The hostess could use a few lessons on how to talk to customers. Super rude. She said there were no tables inside yet when the next table was seated outside and they asked to move inside, she miraculously found a table. Our waiter was amazing as well as the food. But we ate in a spot that was about 40 degrees so that part was not enjoyable.
The food was delicious. We had such a fun time on the patio. It was a bit chilly but worth it. We can’t wait to return.
The food was excellent and the portions were huge, the ladies needed a take home box. We didn't have desert as we were attending after a concert at nearby Carnegie Music Hall, which featured a desert spread before the concert. So, come hungry and you won't leave with a need for more food. The noise was a bit loud, but not the restaurant's fault as there was street construction going on during when we were first seated, but stopped as our food was served (quitting time!).
A group of three had a late business lunch on the enclosed patio, and it was
Our first visit there after passing by on several previous trips. Restaurant and menu looked great so made a reservation for my son’s belated birthday dinner. We were seated on the outdoor deck which had the plastic down due to cold weather but it was still pretty. Our server was not very attentive at all and we had to ask for more water after being out for a good 10 minutes. We also asked for bread which she had brought to the table next to us minutes before and were informed that they ran out. It was only 7:45 so found that a little odd. We had bruschetta to start which had good flavor but was soggy. My son had pasta as an entree which he said was good but my risotto was not good, the vegetables in it were hard and undercooked. Unfortunately we will not go back on our next trip to Pittsburgh.
Dinner experience was disappointing. Our party was seated promptly, then we waited 30 minutes before we asked the hostess for water. Server was clueless as to bar and dinner offerings, did not crack a smile. Never came back with bread or to ask if all was OK. Nice décor, average food, terrible service. Now I know why we were able to get a reservation on a Saturday night.
Extremely understaffed. Felt forgotten most of our time there. Tried to be very patient and understanding until we flies in our drink. Waitress was not very concerned or apologetic.
Our food was amazing. Good wine selection but expensive. We were outside on the enclosed patio which was cold, even with the heaters. Service was great and atmosphere very relaxed.
We were pleasantly surprised that all wine is half off on Tuesdays! Food was alright, my truffle pasta with mushrooms had a sweet taste to it and the topped chicken had no real flavor, definitely want to try another dish next time. My partners meal was great, the meatballs and pasta with the sauce were just the right comfort food for the night. I will say our service was not the best which overall set the mood for the evening starting off with a question about some of the wine options which seemed to bother our server. I understand we all have off days and we will chalk it up to that. We will return once more to try other dishes in hopes both meals and experience is a bit better than the last.
Patio was comfortable and not cold. Food was delicious.
Amazing service, staff are very welcoming. Meadow was refreshing with her knowledge of the menu items and assisted with recommendations. The portion sizes were very good, both appetizer and meals. Flavorful Italian food and all the seafood cooked perfectly!
This was a rough dining experience for us. First, our water had some bits of something floating in it. Then the wedding soup smelled and tasted a bit rancid. Then the meals were not great, either. The short rib was tough (and hard to get off the bone), and the potatoes were not cooked through. The shrimp scampi was overwhelmingly sour. This is definitely not a place we will be returning to.
The food - soups and entrees were cold.
The salad was delivered different than as described on the menu.
The wine was excellent. The service was excellent.
Food was great.
We enjoyed our server Emily.
Great seafood risotto!
I wanted to like it but it was a very bad experience. They were accommodating when we called to tell them we were running late, but that was all that was good. We sat outside and the waitress (who was very nice) didn’t check on us enough - constantly ran out of water (and wine). Entrees took almost 2 hours and my chicken parmigiana was so dry I couldn’t eat it. They were apologetic and cut the bill, but too little, too late.
We ordered and our salads and appetizers which came out in about 20 minutes. Our main courses came out about an hour and 10 minutes. There were lots of servers but no food. Our food was cold and it tasted awful. I have dinned at Lucca in the past and the food and service was great. It was an awful experience. We were getting together with 2 couples from Philadelphia. My wife and I were embarrassed.
Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good food
Lucca is a hidden treasure. Great food. Great atmosphere. Our waitress was one of the best we've ever had at a restaurant. Can't wait to go back to try more of the menu!
Excellent, as usual! Forgot my coupon, though. Hope I get another one. Will definitely be back!
Truly disappointed. This restaurant is essentially the Olive Garden at three times the price, which is not a compliment to either restaurant. The service was great, the young lady tried her best. But the vegetables that were supposedly "oven-baked" were raw, the Risotto was glue and inedible, plus something as simple as sorbet was iced over and obviously had been in the freezer for far too long. I get the feeling that the only reason this place is still in business is due to its close proximity to the Carnegie Museum and other area attractions. Keep looking if you want even remotely good or authentic Italian food. For my part, I'll certainly never eat there again.
Service, food, ambiance on the patio, all was wonderful!
Everything was very nice!
The food and wine were both impeccable!
It makes me sad to write this but the experience at Lucca this evening was, by far, the worse dining experience I’ve had in years. Just Terrible. They advertise that you’ll ‘leave as family’. If so, I hope they put me up for adoption.
To go through all the details would be exhausting. But in short, the service was non-existent, the food mediocre and just about everything else disappointing. Waited 15 minutes after seating to be acknowledged. Had to beg a passing waiter to get us a menu and take a drink order. Watered down drinks and the olives for my martini looked like they had been sweep up from the floor. We were offered no chance to order anything but a main entree. No appetizers or salad offered. Waited 45 minutes for our food and only received it after asking a busboy to do a search. We spent our 45 minutes looking for other places to go - but it was Sunday before a late Steelers game so options were limited. We would have dropped $100 on the table and walked away if we had the slightest nearby option. Food was just OK - it was warm and we were famished. Bread was good, once we got some - had to ask.
Bottom line - don’t waste your time giving these guys a shot. I was just visiting Pittsburgh so it will be easy for me to never go back to this place again. A very low bar has been set so I’ll happily go somewhere else and forget Lucca even exists.
And I have no grudge to bear here nor do I expect perfection. I travel extensively, eat out 10-15 times a month and have never, ever, left a review below 3 stars. Here I struggled giving 2 stars for anything - maybe the ambiance? Or the bread?
Maybe it was just a bad day for the staff. But looking at a few recent reviews tells me this place isn’t with the time.
Outstanding all the way around!
Lucca is our go-to restaurant when in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh, and we are always pleased with the food, wine and atmosphere!
This is a hidden gem in Oakland. Food and service are fantastic. This is my second visit with different friends and we will definately be back.
Wonderful! Great service for lunch, beautiful outdoor seating and delicious food. The best wedding soup I've ever had!
Fantastic food and fantastic service! Our server was wonderful and the squash ravioli was to die for!
It always feels like we’re coming home- excellent, caring service and satisfying food! Uplifts our spirits ❤️
