Food was absolutely delicious. Also enjoyed their new wine list!
OK, it was a Saturday. OK Sunday was graduation day at the university down the street which meant they were busy[!]. Yes they comped a free drink for the delay in serving the food. The waiter was kind. The food, however, was priced 15-20% higher than the taste warranted. The taste was just OK-ish.
Overall it's a good restaurant. The food seemed to be better when we were there last year. The calamari was a little salty the service was good and the wine was great
Having run out of an item on the menu, Lucca substituted a very inferior piece of meat at the same price for two at our table. This should have been obvious to Gina our server, but she was inadequately trained and lacked confidence to deal with the situation. This was our main complaint, but I could add that the wine pours were skimpy and the room was cold.
The food was fantastic! Very authentic. We had standard Italian fare with gourmet upgrades. The waitress had a lot of tables or else our service would have been five stars. That and two of our party ordered ravioli and has to wait 15 minutes after everyone had their food. But overall, great food. I would recommend it.
Delightful dinner! The pesto was so fresh and vibrant— I haven’t tasted anything like it since my trip to Cinqueterre Italy. The calamari was also very delicious and fresh. Everyone enjoyed their dishes: arugula salad, scallops, risotto, bolognese, meatballs. It’s too bad we don’t live in Pittsburgh because we would definitely dine there frequently! Honestly, I can’t imagine you’d be disappointed
Excellent food and service. Appreciated that they allowed us in a little before our reservation time and their official opening time.
Lovely restaurant. Slightly overpriced for what you get, but we had a wonderful time and definitely would go again.
I had a chicken dish that was dry and not particularly flavorful. Therefore, I consider it overpriced. I was with 5 other individuals who enjoyed their meals. They had different food items.
A small but nice spot a couple blocks north of university of Pitt and near CMU. The food is Italian but a little off the beaten path which was a nice change.
My wife and I split a Caesar salad (plenty) for each of us and she had the Ravioli di Ricotta and I had the Alla Chitarra. Salad was generously covered in dressing and cheese. Both of our meals were tasty and sized appropriately.
Great risotto. Nice ambiance. Good wine selection.
Food too forever to arrive and then it was either over cooked or stone cold. Not even slightly warm, it seemed as if it had come straight out of the fridge. I was really disappointed as it was supposed to be a special Easter get together for my family.
We had the mushroom risotto and homemade pasta with lamb bolognese. The warm bread was a nice touch and just what we needed while waiting for our meals to arrive. Everything tasted super fresh and homemade. We are still talking about our meals several days later. We sat on the patio on a beautiful evening. Definitely go to this restaurant if you’re in the area.
Exciting new changes are in store for this neighborhood gem, now under new ownership. My husband and I shared a fabulous salmon dinner and a custom made beet salad! So nice to find a restaurant that is happy to accommodate diner’s wishes! Good luck Jennifer- can’t wait to see what the future brings ❤️
I had a delicious appetizer - avocado crab bruschetta and an arugula salad with roasted grapes. It was a perfect supper selection and generous enough that I took part of it home for lunch the next day. The restaurant was busy but not noisy. The service was good. I’ll look forward to coming back again
Great food and service. Second time we have been to Lucca. Had a family dinner and really enjoy the food and atmosphere.
Had a very good dinner here tonight while visiting our daughter at the University of Pittsburgh. It’s very close to campus. the Italian food was great and the servers were awesome. We will definitely be back here again
Table we were seated at was in the aisle and wasn’t comfortable. I felt like I was in the way. Unsettling at best. Thought making reservations would have gotten us a better table.
It was ok; not terrific. Our group ordered 2 apps, a salad and 4 entrees. Salads overdressed. Entrees- pasta was good, daily special (fish) cooked to death and whole dish too salty, duck was good but accompaniments salty, risotto con fungi too salty. Cocktails delicious.
food and service was very good
Restaurant was empty. Service was good, but food was moderate. Had a very odd vibe.
Quiet with excellent food.
Great neighborhood place to go - loved the stained glass windows and the friendliness of the staff
Business lunch at Lucca, so accessible to CMU, Pitt, town, shadyside, and others. Service was great, easy to hold a conversation there. Nice, sophisticated decor. I had them put the salmon entree atop the kale salad, all changes are welcomed and accommodated. This was delicious. Colleague had the salmon chowder - really awesome also. Definitely be back.
First time based on a recommendation. We were nervous at first, as they were under their first week of new management. The staff could not have been more professional or accommodating. The food was outstanding. We will return - soon and often.
Food was incredible and the portions were big... enough for lunch or dinner the next day! We'll come back for sure!
Very enjoyable meal!
Lousy service had to ask for water refills, no coffee offer
Salad and meals not served together.
Ordered chicken- 1) it was not warm, 2) it seemed like a processed-chicken patty from a big box store.
Everything was delicious, just a bit on the salty side. Great wine selection by bottle and glass and a wonderful menu. Staff was gracious and friendly.
We have been here before. Something was just off. It was my Bday celebration. I ordered Wedding soup in which the veggies were so over done and mushy. For my entree I got Tuna. The presentation looked like a beginner plated but. Weird hard boiled eggs with radishes and cherry tomatoes. I ordered the dish because of a certain ingredient and I had to ask the waiter where was it on the plate. Our waiter didn’t keep up with filling our water. Overall food tasted
Food was very good. Service was very slow and not good.
Been wanting to try this place for years. Had Saturday night reservations at 8:15. Got there early and thought we would have a drink before we got seated. Found out quickly there is no bar tender. Servers are in charge if getting there own drinks. Sat at the bar for about 15 min having numerous servers filling their own tables drinks and not making eye contact with us. Finally the hostess came over and took our drink orders. She did feel bad and made them on the house.
Finally got seated and ordered or meals. Service was slow but not terrible. I ordered the Frutti di Mare con Rigatoni because I love seafood, especially scallops which was supposed to be in the dish. Unfortunately the chef forgot to include this item. By the time my server came back around to see how things were, I was 3/4’s done with my meal. He offered to have the chef cook up some scallops, but I declined considering I was basically finished with my dish. Although disappointed I didn’t get the scallops, the dish was pretty good so it wasn’t a huge deal. However, when my bill came, they charged me full price for my dish. Considering the scallops was one of the key ingredients that caused my pasta dish to cost what it did, I was a bit surprised the server didn’t discount the dish, but whatever. There are plenty of other restaurants in the city.
Luke was a fabulous server. He was attentive and helpful and charming. We really enjoyed his presence.
The restaurant is quaint and eclectic in decor. The tables were a little cramped so it was awkward at times where it felt like others could hear your conversation. The Burrata was delicious and they had a nice selection of wines. It did take a very long time to get drinks and food though. It didn't seem like the place was that crowded that it would take so long especially with an early reservation. My entree was good but nothing spectacular as I got the meatballs and pasta. My husband enjoyed his meal of fried chicken with polenta wrapped in proscuitto. We did not have dessert as the portions were a good size. Convenient location to Phipps and the museums.
Our family enjoyed the appetizers and desserts, The salads were wonderful and bread was fine. Everyone enjoyed the entrees. Several of the five of us should have asked for substitutions for the sides but that was our issue not the restaurant. Overall it was a very good experience with excellent service.
Wait staff was fabulous! Enjoyed the crab/avocado app. I’d recommend the ravioli - it’s what I ate with a house salad!
Wonderful, creative dining. Food was delicious and not you run of the mill fare.
Thank you so much for visiting Lucca Ristorante. We hope to see you again soon!
