LUCCA Ratings and Reviews
My girlfriend and I enjoyed brunch on Sunday after church. The restaurant was not very crowded and the offerings varied from a traditional breakfast to brunch options and to traditional lunch options.
The menu was a little confusing but we managed to sift through it and make some substitutions and arrive at a very satisfying meal. It is definitely a good option for Saturday or Sunday brunch.
Frankly and surprisingly disappointed in lunch today. Menu was very limited. We eat had both gluten free and dairy free needs for a guest. Only soup available had gluten so no soup. Pretty much salads were it that fit, and we love salads. When my guest asked if she could omit cheese and just add some garbanzo beans as in another salad, they wanted to charge extra! We replied cheese is more expensive than beans. Please send the manager over if you are going to charge more. They then said fine. My salad had hardly any roasted butternut squash and an overload of dried cranberries and too much cheese, which i eat little of. Overall disappointing. We also asked for a quiet non busy corner so we could talk, and were seated in a great spot. They then sat a noisy group of 5 next to us. We paid the check and finished outside on the patio. Don't plan on going back. Ate there in the past with better overall satisfaction and food, but not what it used to be.
We have eaten here many times and this was the first time that service was either slow
or just plain awful.
Had to leave table to hunt for waiter...glasses never re-filled, orders and food came very
slowly. Meals delivered five minutes apart...etc...
Bad night at Lucca's.
This is not the norm but made for a less than enjoyable time...and we were entertaining
It was NY eve. 6:30pm. Server was surly from the beginning. I asked to taste the Bolognese sauce and was told that "everything is prepared to order so I'm not sure that is possible". Bolognese is not prepared when ordered - it is pre-made. I was provided with a taste and it was good so I ordered a plate of spaghetti and the ragu. Together - very ordinary. No offer of cheese to top the meal. Asked for water once - never came. Not crowded, so I am unsure why server was so slow to react. Perhaps she desired to have the evening off. Note - the cabinets in the entryway house ceramics and wines. The tops of the glass cabinet - about 15 feet long - I do not beliee has been dusted or cleaned for years. We sat on the other side of this cabinet and my view was directly looking at the down lights over each cabinet's dirty glass. Unappealing for a diner. Place needs help. I would call this a "fake" Italian restaurant.
I have been here a couple of times before so decided to organize a lunch for co-workers. Unfortunately it was just too noisy and we were seated on the patio so it was difficult to converse. Was very busy and had trouble getting waiter's attention although he was trying as hard as he could. Food was great, just wish the overall experience was a bit more organized.
What a wonderful surprise Lucca was. We went there before picking up our daughter at her company's christmas party. The menu had some wonderful selections for us to choose from and we ate every bite! The wine choice was superb and the service as well. Not to be missed if you are in the area!
I had recommended this restaurant for a friend get-together based upon going there for lunch with clients in the past. The food, as I remembered, was very good but the atmosphere was not as I had hoped. We were situated at a table near the pathway to kitchen and restrooms. The chairs were not comfortable and there was no real holiday feel to the restaurant at all. The lighting was too bright (one of my bugaboos) and it was just very casual storefront style with finer dining prices. I will probably go back for lunch but disappointing dinner location in my opinion.
Italian restaurant without bread nor olive oil and the food is not that great and yet the price higher than high end restaurant. Maggiano's in Costa Mesa even have better price than this. The service is not that great either. Overall is okay but def. I'm not coming back.
Took friends to Lucca for their first time to celebrate a birthday and wedding anniversary. As always, my dinner was excellent, and my friends can't wait to go back. Mario, our waiter, was delightful and kept refilling our toast and delicious tapenade at our request several times. Love, love, love the Short Rib Bordelaise pasta!
This was our 2nd time eating at Lucca. First time, the food was very good. This time, I got the Mahi Mahi...around $27. WAY overpriced for a bland fish. Only at half. Not very good. Bland.
Cheese platter was good though. And the Lucca salad was simple and very small, considering the price we paid for that. Will not come back. Way too many other good restaurants in OC.
Waiter was nice, but service was slow, considering there were only 4 other tables occupied at the time we were there.
This was my fifth visit to Lucca and it has always been an opportunity I looked forward to. The last visit we encountered a very busy lunch hour and not enough wait staff to handle it. We were ignored then rushed as time went by. I suspect this was an unusual day for the cafe but could have been managed better. Food as always did not disappoint.
Met friends for dinner. Food was excellent. I had the Salmon, others had the hamburger , sausage and peppers. Service was not what I would expect at Luccas. Have eaten their in the past and it was much better. Had to ask for water a couple of times. Won't prevent us from going back.
Another great meal at Lucca! Food is good (try the short rib with egg noodles), servers are friendly and attentive, outside patio is a great spot but acoustics in the indoor seating area are extremely loud so we always prefer to sit outside. Don't let the fact you have a view of Albertans and a gas station put you off - the food will overcome the location!
