Lucca Back Bay Ratings and Reviews
I work in the industry, so Valentine’s Day is never an option for my wife and I. We came to Boston for dinner and he theater, with a great recommendation for Lucca.
Our experience was perfect! The recommendation precedes itself. Our server was perfect, knowledgeable and polite when discussing menu selections and suggestive selling. Also attentive, with no delay in bottle water and wine service.
She opened our Brunello and let it breath while we enjoyed cocktails first, sharing some oysters and splitting the soup. My wife loved the presentation of the ingredients that finished with hot soup poured table side!
Another shared item, the gnocchi with a split Caesar all before dinner. Needless to say we had no room for dessert, although we still looked at the menu to see what we were missing. Top to bottom service and food were terrific, and we were right on time for the theater.
I made a very quick, last minute decision to book a business dinner at Lucca Back Bay based on Trip Advisor reviews of restaurants near the Prudential Tower in Boston. And it was an excellent call. I wrapped up one business discussion the bar area and the bar service was near perfect. (My apologies if I don’t correctly remember her name, but Isabella did a great job!) Then I transitioned into the dining room for a second business meeting over dinner. The Maitre d' was warm, welcoming and very helpful and the service team did a terrific job. The food was exactly what I hoped for when I made the reservation: Classic Italian and very tasty. My Beet Salad and Linguine with "Garlicky Shrimp" were both very satisfying. I was so impressed that I'm very sure I'll go back to Lucca Back Bay the next time I'm in the area.
This is a special restaurant where the focus is on the food and the dining experience. Delicious use of herbs and seasonings and fresh, high quality ingredients make each dish we tried excellent. All homemade ingredients. Tables are far enough apart for privacy and the staff is highly attentive and well trained. Great atmosphere and extensive wine list. We would highly recommend dining at Lucca's Back Bay!
I loved the feel of the place - tall ceilings, spacious table arrangements, dark walls, contrasting white table cloths. Our server was excellent. She was attentive but not hovering, friendly and lively but not inappropriately familiar. Food was very good. My husband's portion of cavatelli was twice as large as necessary while my salmon dish was perfectly sized. It was great to have good selection of reasonably priced wine by the glass. Overall, a very pleasant dinner indeed.
2nd time in and both times the greeters had difficulty connecting me with my dinner party. 1st time they were seated and I waited. 2nd time I was seated and my party waited - not a big deal but can be improved.
I coat checked with a small shopping bag and when I left I did not get my bag back. I had forgotten about it but came back a few hours latter to get it.
We were there on a Friday night and they did seem rushed. The service was not as attentive as I expected, waited for wine and our waiter did not return to see about our dinners. The as always was very good and the portions large. We have dined at Lucas' often and we do so again.
Nice place, but nothing that really stood out about it. Made me think of a place you might take a business contact. Food was quite tasty, service was professional. Server tried to up sell more than once (we narrowly avoided a $40 glass of Cabernet) but was pleasant enough about it.
I eat at Lucca Back Bay a few times a year when I'm in the area. I have always found it to be excellent! However, my most recent meal was disappointing. First, I asked for a pomegranate martini and they didn't have pomegranate juice so they made me a cosmo. That was an acceptable option, however, the cosmo was sour. When I told the server, he brought it back to the bar and returned it to me within seconds and it was clearly the same drink, I suspect with sugar added! My food was good but not as warm as it could have been. I did not send it back because I didn't want to ruin the evening by complaining a second time. I will give it another chance but, again, I expected better, especially for the $200 tab.
Girls night out for a birthday celebration. The waiter surprised us with a nice apple pie for the birthday friend. Nice place for a long chat over dinner. Mussels & calamaris were delicious. But the lobster soup was way too salty and it was the only choice for a really cold night. The entries are standard without much of wow factor. Will go again for a friends catch up!
I take my mother every year to Lucca's Back Bay when we go to Holiday at Pops. The food is always spectacular, and the service impeccable. The staff that greeted us were amazingly warm and welcoming, getting our coats and making sure we were comfortable at our table. Our server was friendly, had great timing on checking in, and was simply wonderful. I love treating my mother and she really looks forward to this meal. We come all the way from Cape Cod for the evening, so it is very special for her. My thanks to the staff, and the chefs, and can't wait to see you again next year.
Our table of five all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The salads were delicious, and the cocktail choices were excellent. Our waitress could not have been more pleasant and the owner engaged us in fun conversation and showed an interest in how our evening went.
We loved our evening out!
The four of us have had dinner at Lucca a number of times. Our experience Saturday was not great. We waited to order, waited for food....our server hardly acknowledged us. My major complaint was that our appetizer serving plates were left on the table for more than 20 minutes—the table is not very large and empty oyster platters, wooden salami boards, etc. made it difficult to even pick up a glass. We poured our own wine, and the server’s attitude about the vintage served being different than the vintage on the wine list was scoffed as immaterial.
And by the way charging $4.50 for filtered tap water is cheesy....after ther service, it added insult to injury.
We went here for dinner prior to attending The Boston Pops at Symphony Hall. The valet service was speedy, the restaurant was packed but the staff knew we needed to make the show and got us a space upstairs. Excellent service and delicious food! I had the soup that has lobster in it. Amazing!!! They also made kid portions of pasta alfredo, fresh bread, great wine. Everyone was happy and friendly we encountered. I highly recommend!
Had a lovely meal of the evening's special, roasted Halibut with roasted cauliflower and root veggies. Beautifully presented, accompanied by a wonderful South African Sauvignon Blanc. It was nicely lit for dinner and quiet, could carry on a conversation with my 'indoor voice'. Not rushed, leisurely pace, relaxed evening. The only (slight) hiccup was the server upselling appetizers and desserts after being politely informed that we were not interested. But, not enough of a hiccup to spoil the evening.
Went here for dinner after a show at the BSO. It's quite beautiful inside and the food and service were amazing. The noise level was very manageable, and we were able to carry on a conversation with a member of our party is who is deaf in one ear without difficulty (which can be hard to find in that neighborhood!). If you're a fan of beets, I strongly recommend getting the beet salad as an appetizer. Wonderful taste and textures and not so much that you fill up before your meal.
My friend and I were not very hungry so we each ordered two appetizers. The marinated raw oysters were out of this world. My friend ordered the soup of the day which was excellent. I ordered the beet salad which was delicious. The basket of fresh and warm bread came with a nice dip rather than your typical butter. I will definitely go back when I am more hungry.
We had a very nice meal at Lucca. The server was attentive and knowledgeable about the food and the wine. I had the halibut special and it was excellent, light and fresh. Hubby had the linguini shrimp, which was a little too spicy for his taste (but the menu did say spicy) We would definitely return to Lucca.
Lucca's is one of the best restaurants I've ever experienced (and I travel all over the world all the time). There was only one main I could eat (I'm a vegetarian), but it was outstanding. I also had an entree, which was fabulous. Three people ate with me, and all enthused about the food. Lucca's chef mixes ingredients that aren't normally seen together, and they work. Preparation of every dish was exquisite. Excellent beer and wine lists. This is a top rung restaurant, and the price is good for such an outstanding place. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed by Lucca's. Except maybe vegans.
