Lucca Back Bay Ratings and Reviews
We went here for dinner prior to attending The Boston Pops at Symphony Hall. The valet service was speedy, the restaurant was packed but the staff knew we needed to make the show and got us a space upstairs. Excellent service and delicious food! I had the soup that has lobster in it. Amazing!!! They also made kid portions of pasta alfredo, fresh bread, great wine. Everyone was happy and friendly we encountered. I highly recommend!
Had a lovely meal of the evening's special, roasted Halibut with roasted cauliflower and root veggies. Beautifully presented, accompanied by a wonderful South African Sauvignon Blanc. It was nicely lit for dinner and quiet, could carry on a conversation with my 'indoor voice'. Not rushed, leisurely pace, relaxed evening. The only (slight) hiccup was the server upselling appetizers and desserts after being politely informed that we were not interested. But, not enough of a hiccup to spoil the evening.
Went here for dinner after a show at the BSO. It's quite beautiful inside and the food and service were amazing. The noise level was very manageable, and we were able to carry on a conversation with a member of our party is who is deaf in one ear without difficulty (which can be hard to find in that neighborhood!). If you're a fan of beets, I strongly recommend getting the beet salad as an appetizer. Wonderful taste and textures and not so much that you fill up before your meal.
My friend and I were not very hungry so we each ordered two appetizers. The marinated raw oysters were out of this world. My friend ordered the soup of the day which was excellent. I ordered the beet salad which was delicious. The basket of fresh and warm bread came with a nice dip rather than your typical butter. I will definitely go back when I am more hungry.
We had a very nice meal at Lucca. The server was attentive and knowledgeable about the food and the wine. I had the halibut special and it was excellent, light and fresh. Hubby had the linguini shrimp, which was a little too spicy for his taste (but the menu did say spicy) We would definitely return to Lucca.
Lucca's is one of the best restaurants I've ever experienced (and I travel all over the world all the time). There was only one main I could eat (I'm a vegetarian), but it was outstanding. I also had an entree, which was fabulous. Three people ate with me, and all enthused about the food. Lucca's chef mixes ingredients that aren't normally seen together, and they work. Preparation of every dish was exquisite. Excellent beer and wine lists. This is a top rung restaurant, and the price is good for such an outstanding place. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed by Lucca's. Except maybe vegans.
I had the lobster tagliatelle, which I read about on their on-line menu, and I was looking forward to it so much from the description that I was practically drooling when I sat down to eat . Very disappointing experience. There were some clumps of chewy pasta in the dish that I almost choked on while trying to swallow - 4 attempts to gag the mass down. There was a serious dearth of lobster - I think I forked 4 reasonable-sized pieces; the rest was just a few shreds of lobster meat. It was also over-seasoned w/ tarragon to the point that I only ate about 4 bites (including the chewy mass I almost choked on) - I couldn't finish it bc of the over-seasoning and sense of too much fat in the dish overall - whether butter or oil; I couldn't tell. But too fatty so with each bite there was a greasy aftertaste.
The only good thing was that the portion size was perfect (for me) - about 1-1/2 - 2 cups of food (but $27 dollars for that??). More than that requires a doggy bag for a second meal, and I wasn't going to take that to the theater with me!
Service was great but my date had to wait way too long for his drink before dinner.
I love restaurants where you don’t have to raise your voice to talk to the person across the table. Lucca Back Bay was perfect. Quiet. Classy. Truly exceptional food. Impeccable service. The perfect restaurant for a special occasion or romantic meal. Highly recommended.
We were not disappointed by our 2nd time dining at Lucca Back Bay. The burrata appetizer was delicious - the olive & roasted pepper relish provided a perfect contrast of salty and tangy to the creamy burrata. My husband enjoyed the venison - sharing a bite with me, while I chose the swordfish special. Service was attentive with just the right combination of friendliness and leaving us to enjoy our pre-theatre conversation. We will definitely return.
Very average Italian. Pasta was good, but not spectacular. Sauces were over-savory (if that makes sense). I much prefer dishes where the chef has the confidence to rely on the quality of their pasta and not overdo the sauces. Simple simple simple. Would have liked to have seen a cacio e pepe done unforgettably well than these over-complex sauces.
This is a superb restaurant in the center of the happening scene in Boston ---Back Bay, Prudential, Copley Square. Tables far apart, quiet upscale dining room with amazing wait staff and food to match. It was exactly what we wanted and needed. I ordered venison! Thanks for a Superb dining experience.
We had a group of couples together for dinner before the Boston Speakers Series at Symphony Hall. We added a seventh person to our reserved table for six without a problem. The food was exceptional. I particularly liked the beet salad off the normal menu. I also had the Halibut special which was perfectly prepared and plated on one type of squash purée with another type of squash served alongside along with sautéed kale. Everyone else liked their food too. However, given that we communicated that we needed to leave by 7:45 when we sat down at 6:05, it was disconcerting that we did not get our entrées served until 7:20 following a delay after we finished the appetizers. I think the problem arose because the waiter used the conventional approach of drinks orders and then food orders, with the result being that the food orders were not out in soon enough to comfortably meet our schedule. The waiter knew timing was getting tight, but avoided us despite our efforts until he knew exactly when the food was coming.
2nd time there and opted for bar seating v. table. Bartender was friendly, attentive and funny! Can't recall his name (tall w/beard) but I've seen him at the North End location too. Enjoyed a couple beers and cocktails before having very tasty, large plump mussels..great flavor and the bread for enjoying the broth is really good. My wife had the crab arancini special, very good! Split a great caesar and the spicy linguine...perfect. Really enjoyed our experience there and loved sitting at the bar. Certainly miss the vibe/people watching of the NEnd locale, but this was perfect for what we were looking for. Will be back!
The poached pear salad was fantastic. The Burrata was fresh and delicious. The scallops could have had more flavor. The prosciutto was too overcooked and the pumpkin undercooked on the scallop dish. The restaurant atmosphere was inviting and the owner was charming. Overall we enjoyed it.
