Lucca Back Bay

Our server and his team were attentive , pleasant. The mains, starters and cocktails were among the best.
Read the menu and imagine each item done perfectly, that's Lucca. There are some surprises too. Comfortable dining room, that is more traditional than trendy, but with good spacing of tables. Our new favorite. A stand-out for quality and consistency.
Great service--server told us about the location where the scallops(Dennis) were harvested. He was perfect with the wine pouring--750ml seemed like plenty of wine...our glasses were always just right without feeling rushed or neglected. The swordfish special was transcendent (very tasty), as were the pork and the gnocchi. The coffee was incredibly good--I regretted having to go to the theater and NOT have another cup. All around a very pleasant dinner.
Beautiful space, adequate service, decent food, but not nearly what is should be for the price.
This was my second visit to this location. This first time I went I thought it was expensive but the food was good - not outstanding but good. My husband and I have season tickets to the theatre, and this restaurant is a convenient dinner spot before a show. We agreed to meet another couple for dinner before going to a play, thinking we would have plenty of time. In fact, we arrived early and were seated but no menu or wine list was provided, and no water was poured until our friends arrived almost 15 minutes later. When the waiter delivered the menus, we told him we were going to a show. Then, we ordered a bottle of wine and one soda. After confusing the wine choice, we received our drinks 15 minutes later. Next, we tried to order our food but when asked about substitutions for items not liked, we were told items could only be taken away, not substituted. For a restaurant this expensive, this is inexcusable, particularly when sides are available for purchase. As with the first time, the food was good, not great, once it arrived. Because it took so long to get our drinks and meals, we didn’t have time for dessert. In fact, we were late to the play and could not be seated in our main floor seats. Bottom line, we felt we were in Siberia from a service standpoint - no sense of urgency or desire to ensure we had a good dining experience. On top of it all, the restaurant did not acknowledge my Open Table reservation! Given the cost. I will search for a more enjoyable experience elsewhere.
Excellent restaurant, tasty food, impeccable service, and great ambience. We will be back for another visit
Our server was fantastic. The food was amazing and the wine selection was good. Definitely pricey, so it is a place for a special occasion, but we definitely would go back.
Food was cold, service was horrendous. Would not recommend.
Excellent service and wine pairing suggestions!
The food was overpriced and the service was awful. Our cocktail order was delayed. The waitress forgot to replace our silverware after the first course. It took three requests to get grated cheese. She did not keep an eye on refilling our glasses with wine or water.
Great modern Italian food. The service was friendly and attentive.
Very expensive for the food quality. My swordfish was way over cooked. Starter salad selection was not great. Wines very overpriced.
Always good food portions are much too big
Great service and excellent meal with friends in advance of the Speaker Series. The staff is very friendly and professional. My friends and I always have a great time and Sean does a great job ensuring that the entire dinner party is happy with their meal and service.
We were returning to this restaurant after a prolonged absence due to dissatisfaction with the menu and food. Hence, we were pleasantly surprised when all the food from the gnocchi to the lobster pasta were excellently created, prepared, and presented. Of minor note was a very disappointing Caesar Salad. Although the wait staff was efficient, our waiter was less than knowledgeable on the menu and certainly not very friendly. The hosting staff, however, were very friendly, accommodating, and concerned for our care while in their restaurant. I found the cost high, but not necessarily by Boston standards where everything is outrageously priced - the reason why we don't visit, from the Cape, nearly as often as we used to. We miss our previously frequent overnight visits for concerts, plays, the museum, and just generally walking around a very pleasant city, but it's just not affordable in any season.
Pasta dishes were awesome. Service fantastic
My go to place for out-of-town visitors, special occasions, and whenever I want a good meal.
Food was quite good, service was attentive but not hovering, and ambiance was classy, yet not stuffy. My wife and I quite enjoyed a meal together out!
Spent my birthday here & it was absolutely amazing!
Very nice restaurant, I would dine there again
Celebrating running the Boston Marathon
Enjoyed our meal. Open table secured us a reservation during the busy Boston Marathon. We were seated in the entry pathway and our server was spread thin, as expected, given the crowds waiting for a seat.
Local restaurant with an Italian flare. Excellent pasta. Service with a smile. Would definitely visit again.
Wonderful and Full of Flavor! Would recommend to everyone!
Great food, great service. Attentive without being overbearing.
Waiter was catering to other tables because we did not drink, charges for fresh brewed tea and fountain pop refills, every other table was given bread baskets and we were given two pieces, waiter tried to say after the bill was brought out that he was trying to do something for the birthday noted on the reservation which seemed like an attempt to increase his tip since nothing was provided like dessert, overall not impressed with the overall experience, won’t say the food wasn’t good but the rest of the experience put a bad taste on the rest
The mussels were superb. Lovely and plump with a delicate sauce to accompany them. The bread to dip into the lovely liquid had no substance. Perhaps a stop or two from Wonder bread. For an Italian restaurant this bordered on the insulting. Unfortunately the potato gnocchi were stodgy and the greasy sauce with them was--well-just greasy. The Verde was a lawn of arugula with pecans, apples etc. which were barely visible. The tagliatelle was trying too hard. Too many ingredients that overwhelmed each other.
the Strawberry Rhubarb torte was more crumble than fruit. The fruit was invisible although there was a subtle taste in the background
From walking in the door to getting my coat to leave everything was exceptional. Amazing place that I wish were closer to Nashville 😊
So glad we chose to eat there before the symphony. Food and service were superb and they were very much aware of out time restraints.
We had a wonderful dinner at Lucca Back Bay this past weekend. Everything from the ambiance to the service, to the food, was impeccable. It's a wonderful special occasion or romantic spot. Will certainly return when visiting Boston.
service is always excellent and the food is well prepared and always served fresh and hot. great restaurant for all occasions
I dine at Lucca Back Bay frequently, as it is very convenient for concerts at Sumphony Hall or Jordan Hall. It’s always excellent — prompt, efficient but unhurried service, great food, and a comfortable, calm and inviting atmosphere. And equally welcoming whether I am dining solo or with a companion — which earns them lots of extra credit in my book.
I think Lucca in the North end is a very different restaurant, much more intimate. The Back Bay is clearly more of a business meeting place then the North End location. I had dinner with my daughter, a student nearby. I had salmon, it was very rare, it was on vegetables, with a tremendous amount of chili flakes. My dish was rather plain and spicy. My daughter had rigatoni, she said it was good. I think perhaps we did not order the right selection, but I would defiantly try it again. It was a busy restaurant, the service was great. Valet parking was convenient.
Impeccable food, great wine list. Catered to our dietary restrictions. Only one complaint - we did not try the gluten free pastas because they had preservatives. There are better alternatives, and I hope Lucca management corrects this. But what we did order was perfect in every way. We met the chef afterwards, always a treat in a good restaurant.
The reason for my not perfect score is because this restaurant may be beautiful and have nice ambiance but the fact that they only have 1 chicken dish and it’s only with DARK meat is absurd . I asked the waiter as well as the manager and they were not able to in anyway to accommodate me and make a grilled or just white meat chicken . I do not eat steak, or fish , and pasta is not good for my diet , so how does a restaurant of this caliber only have 1 chicken dish and not able to accommodate someone who doesn’t like dark meat , I can’t imagine . Very dissapointed and will not be back . I can’t even truly give my opinion on anything else because of how ridiculous it was that they could not accommodate me .
Waiter was unattentive. Once we got our meal he never came back to see if we needed anything. I really wanted parmesan cheese on my linguine. It took him a long time once we were done eating to bring check. Food over priced.
Things went quite well this past Saturday. We were promptly seated. Our waiter was quite familiar with the menu and the wine list. Our shared calamari was delicious, as was my pork and my wife's off-menu special, swordfish. The front of the house staff was well organized, and the kitchen put out excellent food. We'll be back.
We have been to Lucca Back Bay several times and this was the first time we were a little disappointed. The service was good but the food was not as good as we expected.
good overall value and excellent service. was visiting Boston with my wife and daughter and we enjoyed are dinner.
The special of the night was an off menu swordfish dish. Delicious.
