Luca's Ristorante of Somerset Ratings and Reviews
The food was good not great. I had the risotto with seafood typically difficult to make. The seafood was cooked well the risotto a bit over cooked for my taste.
Very overpriced for the quality received. My basic complaint was value. With many other byob resturant in the area a better meal can be had for the price
The restaurant Opentable write-up nor the customer comments noted that this restaurant was a BYOB entity. Since I do not live in Somerset nor in the State of New Jersey, I did not know of the BYOB policy.
The waiter asked for our drink order and I ask for a glass of wine and he advised wine only by bottle. I advise him that I will NOT be purchasing a bottle of wine and that ENDED our SERVICE for the evening. I ordered a salad and we ordered our entrees with a glass of tea for each. He NEVER delivered the teas. The help staff when the salad arrived was advised about the tea orders and immediately provided them. When my glass was empty, I placedit by the aisle side so it could be refiled. NEVER happen by the waiter. The help staff refilled the glass after delivering the main meal. Thus, I rated service has highly unacceptable and lower my food rating since it is hard to enjoy your food when your waiter ignores you as a PAYING customer.
Luca's needs to do nothing more than they are currently doing. The service is spot on; the bread is always served warm; and the food is spectacular. I had the Genovese Artesian Pasta (gnocchi and braised beef) which was excellent. The gnocchi melts in your mouth. My wife had the Luca seafood dinner which she orders all the time and is never disappointed. We found Luca's when we first moved to Somerset 4 years ago and have never been disappointed.
Best Italian restaurant in Central NJ. Chef Andrea delivers an authentic experience down to every detail. Food is fresh and creative and the ambience is warm with local Italian artisan objects from Ischia & Tuscany. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend Luca’s!
This restaurant got > 4 stars from hundreds of reviews; it is the best-rated Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. We drove 20 minutes to get there and were immediately seated. The place was busy and customers looked happy. It is BYOB unless you want a full bottle of local New Jersey wine which is decent but not stellar. Service was good and menu is inspired but the food was not very tasty. We liked the pancetta Caesar salad which the waiter recommended as more popular than the regular Caesar salad. The bread was fresh and served hot in a ceramic bread box, very nice. The Saltimbocca was well-presented but not flavorful. The black bass special came on wilted spinach and topped with lump crab. The fish was fresh and was properly cooked but again it was not very savory and the crab was simply chunks of crab, briny and cool, seemed to have just come out of the can. The gelato and sorbetto came in multiple flavors and were served in generous portions. Nice ambience, cozy unpretentious neighborhood place, clever decor, good service, fair prices. If the food had more zing I would rate it a 4-star.
I absolutely love this place and have been here many time. The food is exquisite, the ambience is great and the service is always top notch. The homemade pasta's are beyond delicious and the fish (branzino is my favorite) is always fresh and expertly prepared. No matter what you choose (i.e., fish, veal, chicken or beef) you will not be disappointed. Be sure to save room for dessert - the tiramisu is amazing!
The food is fantastic! The reason for the so-so rating has to do with service. We were seated and sat for 15 minutes without seeing any of the wait help. I had to get up and mention to the maitre d. He apologized and after that the service was good. We'll go back as it's close and the food is great. Hopefully the wait staff will be more attentive.
Our service was extremely slow and we had to actually find the waiter and ask for the entrees. The mozzarella salad was pretty good as was the bread from the bread basket. My panini was just ok and I only ate less than half. My son't fish was nothing special a little overcooked. We opted not to have dessert. Won't be back
This was a good meeting place for my cousins and I to meet for lunch. It was mid-week, quiet, and only a very few tables were occupied. At one point, we were the only table. It took a long time to get served, and we had to ask several times to get things we asked for (e.g., lemons for my sparkling water, bread, salt). The waiter would disappear for a long time. Luckily, we were not in a hurry. However, the food was delicious and we really enjoyed our meals. I had a chicken dish that had an Italian ham, asparagus, and bechamel sauce. It was delicious. I would return again (this was our second time here).
They offer a nice selection of wines now but you could bring in your own bottle.
Happy to see Prince Edward Island mussels on the menu again. Mussels appetizer was great as usual. Ordered seafood combo in red sauce and wife ordered the salmon special. Both were excellent. Got gelato for desert and it was yummy.
Will go back there in future.
Cozy byob with authentic Italian menu. Fresh figs, mascarpone, pine nuts, prosciutto di Parma, balsamic reduction, mixed greens, EVOO and Meatballs made from short rib, chuck, sirloin, pine nuts, golden raisins, organic tomato sauce, melted provolone were marvelous. The pappardelle bolegnese with burrata, shared by three as a mid course was as good as it gets. The lamb shank with rosemary cognac sauce was fork tender and rich. Service was attentive. We will be back.
Luca's is an off-the-beaten-track gem hidden in a small strip center. The food and service were excellent. The restaurant emphasizes seasonal specials featuring local ingredients. We found it because we had made an overnight stop in nearby New Brunswick and would happily return again.
I wanted to try a new restaurant nearby to Metuchen, so I went online & looked up reviews. Luca's received rave reviews for being a neighborhood gem so I called & made a reservation for 2. When we arrived at the strip mall where Luca's is located, I was concerned b/c all parking spaces were filled. Luckily, I saw that there was a driveway that led to a parking lot in the rear. While waiting to be seated, I noticed a wine storage cabinet containing various wines from a NJ winery - Hopewell Valley Vineyards. We enjoyed our appetizer (Bruschetta - small) and our meals (Artisan Pasta called "Valentino" and a shrimp dish called "Luca") and of course we ordered a bottle of delicious red wine (HVV Rosso Della Valle) to wash it all down. Like so many other fellow diners, we walked out with 1/2 of our meals in a takeout bag because we were stuffed! Mangia is the rule at Luca's , so come with a big appetite!!
We always enjoy Lucas. The food was excellent. This time we were at a table for 2 stuck up against a large group at a round table. Unable to talk they were so loud. The chair behind me was up against mine. No room to move or get out.
Our entrees were brought to the table while we still had our salads.
Not our best visit. But we will go back.
Highly recommended by friends and did not disappoint. Food was outstanding, the waiter was extremely helpful and accommodating. This is not average Italian - this is creative, inspiring, and delicious without being pretentious. We will definitely be back often - even the kids enjoyed their food.
What a diamond in the rough! Hadn't heard of this place even though I'm only 10 minutes away. Its small, a little tight, but the food is wonderful! All 6 of us loved our meals. Waiters need a little training to be fine dining qualified. Nice, but didn't introduce himself, welcome us, ask for our drink order first, ask if we wanted appetizer, if we needed help with the menu, etc. our party had Luca (seafood pasta), Veal shank, short ribs, and Pappardelle. All excellent. Will def go back.
