Luau was rained out. Should have had a back up plan. Gave refunds only.
We loved it but I would cancel our reservation if we did it again and it isn't outside. They moved us inside and there's nothing festive about a luau in a conference room. Food and service were great just the setting indoors was a bummer!
I couldn't have been more disappointed about not being told this was an indoor luau!!!! I made reservations ALMOST 4 MONTHS PRIOR. If I had ever been told it was inside, I would have made other plans. It was two birthday milestone celebrations and the first luau for my 8 and 6 year old grandchildren. I was not told indoor until I arrived and too late to make any changes. Someone needed to advise when it was decided to do indoors (it was NOT due to the rain--a corporate event instead took the place of the luau grounds). A party of 8. You can imagine the cost and then to have it inside----VERY ARROGANT. The show was fine, the food very good and the service exceptional. Only things keeping my volcano from erupting at the event itself!!!
The luau provided amazing entertainment and great food! My family and I really enjoyed it. I would definitely go again!
The Luau was moved inside because of a slight risk of a rain shower - this move was way too conservative since the atmosphere inside a banquet room was poor for this event. I would have preferred being outside even if it meant getting a little wet.
The lawn and ocean views are stunning and the food was delicious. The entertainment however was a little lackluster and dull. We attended another luau on the island that had much better dancing, singing and music. For the price we expected more.
The venue was great, but unfortunately the entertainment portion had to be canceled due to rain, and could not be moved inside because facilities were unavailable in the Hyatt. Staff promised a 50% refund but I am not wanting to have to keep checking for a credit ! One of the servers remarked it’s the first time in 15 years he can remember a situation like this , usually they assess weather earlier in the day and move them inside. The food was good and it’s a beautiful resort but they need a better process to give instant refunds. My family was on a once in a life time trip and this was going to be the end of a great week. I realize weather is not their fault but assuring with instant refunds would’ve helped us all feel better immediately. I have a feeling I am going to have to keep checking in with my bank and call them to remind them.
I was unimpressed with the concierge staff member at the hotel who sold our ticket. He was a jerk with a sloppy appearance and a sarcastic sense of humor. No signs on the premises to direct you where to go. Asked two staff members how to get to the luau and neither one knew!! I was surprised that the event wasn’t moved inside since they were handing out towels due to rain. I had read they moved it inside in other reviews but ours was completely cancelled so it was $649 for our meal. I understand weather cannot always be predicted but at least have a back up plan or some kind of compensation discount to offset the loss
And try again. I think because there was a conference maybe there was limited availability for use of what normally would be used for an inside performance. Waiter was fun, food was plentiful but I didn’t think it was that special. I wish we would have gone on a helicopter tour or something else. I would have felt the same way about the staff even if the show would have gone as planned
It was a great experience that educated us on the history of hawaii
Settled for this luau because the Smith Luau was 100% booked for the week. I didn't see them cook the pie ground as done at other luaus. Food was ok. Open bar - servers were good at keeping the drinks flowing.
The MC was good. Polynesian Show was Ok - a Maui traditional luau was much better.
The dance troop was very small in terms of number of total dancers.
Very nice luau, Food was excellent and drinks as well. Good entertainment.
The food was great, the location was nice, and the show was very well choreographed. We had been to another luau on Maui, and in comparison, we didn’t feel it had the romantic setting/seating as the one we went to before. Seating is at long tables with other parties. A fun feel but not what we expected. Food was served buffet style and was quite good but was not very hot by the time we returned to our seats. Our drink server did a great job in the beginning but tapered off about half way through. We could’ve gone up to get more drinks but then would’ve missed the show. The garden was nice but the other luau we attended had an ocean backdrop. Overall, a decent experience but could’ve been better.
We loved this luau on New Years’ Eve. Excellent food, Maitais, and entertainment.
Really great food at the buffet! Ticket includes unlimited drinks including mai tais, beer and wine! Nice show as well!
This was a very well presented luau. The MC was friendly and fun. The Hyatt is a great location. We did the Smith Luau on the last trip to Kauai. This luau was far superior for presentation and food quality.
Probably the best buffet I’ve had in a long time. Food was well done, drinks flowed (good mai tai), MC was interesting-it’s pricey, though. I have no other luau to compare to but I enjoyed the story telling and dancers. Biggest complaint - although we had a reservation, our seating was ‘first come, first serve.’ All the seats in the front two rows of tables were reserved, though. Not sure how that happened but I’d recommended reserving through the hotel, paying up front and requesting a seat (not reserving through OpenTable, as you have to pay when you get there - yet another line.)
Very professional and well rehearsed. The MC did a fantastic job of telling the story and engaging the audience.
Set in the lovely Grand Hyatt Hotel, this was a fun evening that balanced humor, entertainment, and an opportunity to learn about the history of the Hawaiian culture. The MC did a nice job of leading the audience through the evening, the layout was comfortable, and the food was better than expected. The dessert was lacking in variety and flavor but for an evening of entertainment, amble quantities of food, and an open bar all night with table service, this is a great deal. Fun for the whole family, groups of friends, and/or couples on honeymoon/anniversary trip.
The roasted pig is was delicious, but it was held indoors due to rain. The indoor hall felt like a bad wedding reception.
Luau was held inside, which hurt ambiance. Also, our server was very poor. We got our own drinks and water, which is brutal considering the price. That being said, the show was outstanding
Acoustics were very bad we. Oils not hear at all where we were
Great Thanksgiving luau! Arrive early to walk around the resort, it is beautiful.
Great time, great food!!
An awesome experience! I would recommend this to anyone visiting Kauai!!
This is a solid luau for a small scale location. Don’t go there expecting a big time Maui/ Oahu production, that’s not what it is trying to be. Great food, fantastic host, and solid production value steps away from the front desk in the Grand Hyatt’s courtyard. Space is limited so I would imagine it fills up quickly in the high season.
The performance very well done but very poor drink selection and quality.
While the entertainment was beyond spectacular, the buffet management was subpar for the price and place. The food was served buffet style-nothing wrong with that-however by the time some of the last tabes were asked to the buffet table it was dark and you were unable to even see the food you were eating. In addition, there was no time to take advantage of the great dessert bar.
The rain and wind kept them from completing the show, but no one was willing to help us with compensation or arranging a new show for us. The food was great and the wait staff tried their best to keep everyone happy and comfortable, but I was extremely disappointed with the management and their lack of concern for the fact that we paid full price for half of the experience. Would not recommend.
this was an indoor luau in a very corporate dining hall setting with no decor. neon exit sign glowing behind the performers, beige walls. nice performances and decent food taking place with uncreative wedding vibes. the hotel used the weather excuse - "we're so sorry, but we didn't want to risk being rained out" when there was a 0% chance of rain in the forecast. the hotel clearly didn't have the same concerns for the outdoor wedding happening at the same time. we exited the luau to a gorgeous evening with clear skies. BOO! DO NOT ATTEND!
It was a luau that was inside a ball room. Just didn't feel like a true luau. Food was good though and the entertainment was really good!
