Luau - Grand Hyatt
The most significant style of celebration in ancient Hawaii was the luau, held to honor kings, gods and guests. The Grand Hyatt Kauai Luau welcomes you to join us for this time-honored event. The feast is sure to satisfy and the entertainment will keep you enchanted as you learn the traditional dance of the many locales of Polynesia. We invite you to experience the beauty, romance and adventure. It is an evening that you will always remember.
The blowing of the conch shell begins the evening as the soothing sounds of a Contemporary Hawaiian trio lilt through the air. The royal spread includes cuisine from the melting pot of cultures making up Hawaii. After dinner prepare to be enchanted by the historic yet exotic dances of Polynesia, from the islands of Tahiti, Samoa, and New Zealand, to our own Hawaii
The food and show was great but for what it cost is was very short. Over in 2 hours so I don't think worth the value of what we paid for it.
I read the prior reviews that said to reschedule if rain was in the forecast. I confirmed that there would be no rain and they still held the luau in the ballroom. This took away from the Hawaiian experience. They definitely had the best food of all of Kauai luau's. They also offer a tremendous show. The ballroom takes away from the ambiance that is offered by the other luaus on the island which is so critical for the visitors experience.
AMAZING FOOD!!! They will not disappoint. The only complaint was waiting to be seated. Maybe start with two lines one for larger Parties in one line
Wow, is all I can say. Just wow. I wouldn’t have thought it possible to completely wreck a luau, but the Hyatt pulled it off! It was like being at a Hawaiian-themed dinner in Kansas. Except we were actually on Kauai. And it cost > $800. This was, honestly, such a disastrous experience that it was almost enjoyable. Like, it was a once-in-a-lifetime debacle, entrusting our Thanksgiving dinner to the Hyatt.
Pro-tip, guys: When people pay to go to a luau on Kauai, THEY PROBABLY EXPECT NOT TO BE INSIDE IN A HOTEL CONFERENCE CENTER. A luau normally has, you know, torches and stuff.
Attended the Thanksgiving luau. The food and show were great, our server was very attentive, but we were disappointed that it was relocated inside (it was not raining) and there were so many people - three adjoining ballrooms worth of tables. It was not what we were expecting for our first luau.
Our family of six enjoyed the thanksgiving luau but we’re sad that it was held indoors. We also thought there would be professional photos taken for purchase but not at this luau.
I do not recommend this option for thanksgiving luau- over crowded, loud, food was cold. Very disappointing for the cost.
Went to the thanksgiving luau. You must know if there is even a chance of rain they will move it inside. It was in a huge banquet hall with hundreds of people and for $125 a person and expectations of a beautiful outdoor luau on thanksgiving, this just wasn’t going to cut it. Felt like we were at a conference. We turned around and walked out immediately. Luckily we were able to get a refund and went to Donderos which was delicious.
Such a disappointment - be sure to check if it indoors or outdoors. If indoors, save your money.
Very disappointed in the Thanksgiving luau. 800 people in a very institutional setting inside a hotel ballroom. Mediocre food, terrible desserts. Nothing special for kids. Service was good for drinks. Difficult to hear/see the show. More than $100 for adults, 79 for children.
It was a mass cattle feed... not outdoors because they needed to feed prob 700-800 guest in a big ballroom. Horrible sound and lighting.
Fortunately the food was pretty good.... and the waitress we had was attentive and friendly.
But the check in process was literal like a cattle heard...
If your looking for a luau experience for the additional cost. Go elsewhere!
Held in a ballroom. Hard to believe that a property of this size wouldn’t have a better option for a Luau in slightly inclement weather given how much it rains in Hawaii. Not worth the $125 per head!
Indoors because of the weather, but still an awesome meal and show.
I have been to maybe 5 luaus on different Hawaiian islands, and I would not recommend this one. It was not very kid friendly as the entirety of dinner was served before the show began. The storyteller was ok, not super engaging or funny. The dancing was beautiful, but it just was not that exciting of a show. Also, they changed the location to the ballroom just Incase it rained (which it didn’t). However the “ballroom” was a courtyard. No one took a group photo when groups were walking in, and the only local vendor selling stuff was someone selling $50-$100 barbies. Food was good, however all in all it was Super disappointing especially for the $
Had a great time from moment we arrived. Positive and friendly staff, great food and performers.
Fabulous Luau!!! Between the entertainment, the open bar, the food - it was perfect!!! Our waiter, Benji, kept the Mai Tais flowing which was wonderful!!!
The food was much better than some of the other lua’us we’ve been to and the dancers were just beautiful!! Fully recommend!!
Great MC at the luau. The show was entertaining and the food was fantastic.
This was an okay luau. It was my first and it seemed a bit inauthentic. I was hoping for a cultural journey. The service was great but the drinks were weak. The food was pretty good.
Good experience but hard to see the stage from where we were seated. Not worth $250.00 for 2 people. Would have preferred to spend that money at beach house or somewhere local.
This was a fabulous luau, loved the host and dancers. Beautiful setting. Not crowded, fun
The food and entertainment was wonderful. Due to the potential for bad weather, the luau was held inside so we were basically in a hotel banquet room. While I completely understand concerns about the weather, it's not quite the same feel as it would have been outside. We definitely enjoyed the music, dancers, and the food, but you should be aware of the possibility that it will be indoors.
The luau was held indoors due to showers. The food was tasty and varied and the service was efficient and attentive. We enjoyed the show. The mc and performers were talented and appeared committed to teaching others about their culture and the culture of other Polynesian islands! Fun evening!
Loved the luau! Ciara was exceptional as were the luau dancers. So glad we went.
Birthday Great food great show. Wonderful evening!
Unfortunately, the luau was moved inside during our visit so we were in a hotel banquet room, which somewhat detracts from the vibe. Performance was still beautiful, but would have been better if it was outside.. when we were inside, for a couple of 30 year olds, we felt like it was kind of a cheesy show. Also, we were at long banquet tables with a bunch of people there for a conference, so also wasn't what we were expecting.
On days when the luau is held inside I would recommend that open table guests reschedule. It is underwhelming inside, and lacks the thing that makes it special.
Learned a few things about both the Hawaiian people and some of the many forms of Hula. Was stunned by the fire master.
The food was spectacular!
Music was beautiful as were the voices of the singers and host
Canceled without notice. Found out 40 minutes before when we asked where we should go. Hyatt gave us a bottle of Champagne and expedia got us into a different Luau the next night. Got all sorts of reminders during the day from open table but never told it was canceled by open table
Disappointed in open table as the Hyatt stated open table should have let us know as I booked this Luau a year before, they knew about the cancellation way in advance, and the Hyatt stated they had notified open table. Be careful as open table if where the Hyatt site directs you to make reservations for their Luau.
We have gone to three luaus and hands down this was the best one! The food was amazing and the entertainment was excellent! I might come to this luau again. I highly recommend this!
Getting in to pay was a horrible experience. We were in line so long that the show began while we were still standing in line. Disappointed that the show had to be done inside. The food was amazing. Loved the show, especially the fire dancer.
Long lines poor service. Don’t waste your money. Sat in line a hour waiting to get in
This Luau was fantastic! I have never been before, and really enjoyed the whole experience. My only expectation was to enjoy a fun night and see what the grand Hyatt had in store. We were not disappointed, the host was welcoming and fun, the stories are told well, and the dancers were superb. All around the food was tasty and made for an enjoyable dining experience I would highly recommend.
I googled the best Luaus in Kauai and went with the Hyatt! My fiancé and I are really outdoorsy and adventurous so we did feel a little out of place. The Hyatt really tries to be accommodating to the well off families and couples, which they really had great customer service and the food they had was AMAZING! That was definitely our favorite part. The show was a little long but I believe the Hyatt tries their best to make sure you got your money’s worth. The free Mai Tias were a bonus too. Lots of dessert options. The spokesperson was fun to carry the show as well. TIP: If you get there and reserve a spot online, make sure you get there a little early because before you can stand in line you have to wait in a different line to actually get your ticket and pay. But not to worry, there really isn’t a bad spot for the show. All in all, we’re glad we did it built probably won’t do it again just because it was just a little too high end for us. Would go back for the food. But great for those pampered couples and families, can’t really expect anything different though because that is what the Hyatt is aiming for so there really is nothing wrong without that. Just different tastes :)
Wonderful Luau at Grand Hyatt with authentic food and artistic performance (music, show acts and culture). Setting was beautiful and the event was overall a great experience. The high price brings down value for money a bit though.
awesome great time, wait staff and dancers wonderful
This was our first Lua’u and overall it was quite good. A little bit pricey for what you get but the service was great and you really can’t be the backdrop of the ocean.
We had a nice time just food was a bit disappointing if you don't eat poi & seafood. Also was very expensive. Nice show though!
I’m going to be honest, this luau was very disappointing. I’ve gone twice before in other islands and my experience was that there was 75% traditional Hawaiian food and 25% basic food for kids. This was not the case for this luau. The food variety was limited and absolutely no concessions for the discerning palate of kids. My son ate nothing (seriously, empty plate) and even the desserts couldn’t entice him. Quite frankly, they were horrid. To pay $80 for him to have a glass of Sprite was frustrating. The show was decent, not outstanding, but the performers were engaging and friendly. Still, this did not justify the $380 bill for the 2 hour event.
