Love and Salt
Love and Salt is a philosophy: that food needs only two ingredients to be great. It’s a sensibility that informs the feeling in the restaurant and the dishes on the menu — Italian-inspired with Southern California soul. An approachable wine list and classic cocktail program similarly reflect the vibrant SoCal setting of the restaurant, located just steps from the Manhattan Beach pier.
What Insiders Are Saying
Love & Salt is the upscale, but cool, Italian spot Manhattan Beach needed.
The food was very good. We went there because they offer many gluten free options. Turns out, however, that the gluten free pasta and many of the gluten free options are boioed or fried in the same pans as the regular pasta. So although they have lots of options, if you are sensitive then you still cannot eat the dishes. Not sure why they cook it in the same water/oil
The rest of the food however was very good. My wife and daughter werev severely limited in the choices. My advice: if you are truly gluten free, this is not a great option
Hands down our favorite restaurant! Always amazing and consistent! There’s a new dish and/or drink on the menu every time and we always try them... never been disappointed. One of those places you don’t want people to know about!
Most of the food was so entirely seasoned with salt as to be inedible. In fact, 3 out of 4 pasta dishes we ordered arrived so salted that we left the restaurant hungry. We found far too much salt and not very much love of fine cooking at this restaurant. We didn't have time to return the food for replacement. Had we more time we would have returned all but the gnocchi which was very good. we paid the bill and tipped 25% (out of pity for the poor staff that must suffer from a fair number if displeased diners).
Restaurant needs to update hand symbols on walls of restaurant--likely unintentional hate crime.
I love the food here! Pasta and pizza is amazing! Love the kale salad too!
Chicken undercooked used to have a crispy crust - they have cheapened the greens they serve with it - need call the old chef
Food was very tasty, but also VERY rich and a little heavy on oil. Duck egg pizza was particularly amazing! One of our party ordered the potato gnocchi and the portion seemed a little disproportionate. It must have been not more than 10 pieces of gnocchi on the plate (albeit the dish as a whole was SUUUPER rich and again quite heavy on oil) for $22.
Drinks were strong and made well. Service was friendly and efficient. Would return and try some other items!
We decided to go to Love and Salt to celebrate my daughter‘s birthday. When looking at the wine list we noticed the wines were very overpriced and there wasn’t a very good selection so we decided to bring a couple of our own bottles. They charge a ridiculous corking fee of $60 for two bottles of wine. As fats as service, although the waitress was not rude she was certainly not friendly and was just trying to take orders and move onto the next table. The food was pretty good but not a good value. Overall I would say our experience was below average
Great food and friendly service.
Friend visiting from Israel 😊
Everything was delicious. Pizza, Burrata snap pea salad, pastas, and Brown Sugar pudding never disappoints.
Wow- what happened to Love and Salt? Last visit was a few months ago and I gave it 5 stars. Reserved a table and was taken to a small cafe table smack center in the tight dining room. Asked to move to a window seat and was told they were reserved. I too had a reservation and was offered another little cafe table between two other guests. During our 1.5 hour dinner, no one sat at the ‘reserved’ table. Duck egg pizza was just ok and the bone marrow pasta was salty, pasta was tough, and the entire dish was underwhelming. I let the waitress know and she brought some breadcrumbs to ‘possibly lessen the saltiness’. In addition, the portion was very small for the price. The Nutella donuts are usually fabulously mouthwatering little gems of goodness and worth the $5 price tag. Sadly, we were served 2 dry, over fried items. The noise level is deafening and conversation even at the small cafe table was impossible. Not a good experience. Going to Nicks next time.
Great food and service
Food was amazing! My favorite dish was the Creste di Gallo Midollo.
The food and service at Love and Salt is beautiful ! Our table of 4 shared the meatballs , freekdelish salad, Utopian pizza (to die for) and the rib eye. I think we would reorder the exact same thing when we go back. On our next visit I would not take others. It is not good for conversation or a big group. The acoustics are terrible and it is extremely loud. More of a bar atmosphere than dining.
Staff was very polite and accommodating. Space was open and bright, and the food was all great. A little loud for a business lunch but otherwise great experience.
Best. Pizza. Ever. This restaurant is our favourite date night. Everything is beyond expectations: drink menu, food, ambience, even the best local soap in the bathroom. We were hunting for our favourite pizza in SoCal and finally found it here:)
Must try the peas and burrata and bone marrow pasta!!! Everything else is delicious as well!! Oh and the brown sugar pudding!!
Absolutely fantastic!! A beautiful location, with a cool and fresh decor. Our waitress was friendly and explained how the plates are all made to share and suggested an excellent wine when we asked. The food is some of the best we’ve ever had, each bite is joyful. Prices are very affordable, I would honestly expect them to be higher for such incredible food. It all makes for a great night out, trying a number of plates and flavors while enjoying delicious wine. The homemade Nutella donut was a perfect ending.
1st time to Love and Salt and absolutely loved it. Great food, ambiance and people. Definitely will be back because there are dishes I still need to try!
Delicious food just unfortunately they were out of a few drink and food items but we will be back.
Great service!!! Great pizza appetizers and wine!!! Thank you.
Our server went above and beyond. She made incredible recommendations for both food and wine - we will definitely be back.
Great food and service. A real gem!
The food was exceptional. A couple of the dishes were like a taste explosion in my mouth. The branzino in particular was one of the best dishes we had on our trip to California. We sat at the bar and had a great meal and cocktails. We will definitely be returning next time we are in town.
My boyfriend and I were extremely pleased with the food, location, ambiance. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed every item we ordered. We will definitely be back.
A favorite to where I will return as often as possible.
I came here for my birthday, and the staff made me feel like a queen. The service and food were impeccable.
My friend’s birthday.
Our server Allison was wonderful as she always is. Food was very good and the ambience was very warm and inviting.
Another wonderful meal here at Love and Salt. Menu different this visit. The mussels were beyond delicious. Signature cocktails creative. You cannot miss this dining experience.
Nash was incredible. We had to wait a few extra minutes because our table was taking longer to get up. He took care of us and made us feel so warm and important while we had to wait. He comp’d is with 2 glasses of champagne since it was my husbands bday and when we sat, between him checking on us and our server, service was impeccable. Food couldn’t have been more top notch. Our favorite place!! Highly recommend!!!
Food was exceptional matched only by the service
Our server Corey was the best!!!
Our food server was fantastic as was the food. Exceeded our expectations!!!
We had the most incredible time here for our anniversary and were so well looked after. The best pasta I’ve ever had in my life (try the bone marrow Mac and cheese type dish, it will blow your mind,) incredible cocktails and mock tails, and they brought us a special anniversary dessert. I’m already making a reservation to come back in a few weeks. THANK YOU!!! EAT HERE!
Food and service was great. Salt Spring Mussels, Castelfranco Radicchio salad, Pappardelle Costolette, Fett’unta grilled bread, Freekehlicious salad all excellent. Great place for special occasion or everyday depending on your budget. The reason for 4 stars for ambience is that seating is a bit more awkward than we like. Relationship of the tables to each other and the height of the tall tables relative to the seats is off. Otherwise excellent place.
