Love and Salt is a story that begins with Cafe Pierre, a restaurant birthed by Guy Gabriele in 1977 to bring a taste of France to Los Angeles’ South Bay. While Cafe Pierre was a beloved part of the community for nearly 37 years, in 2014, Guy and his daughter Sylvie Gabriele, now the owner of Love and Salt, closed the restaurant to bring new life to the iconic space.

Love and Salt is a philosophy: that food needs only two ingredients to be great. It’s a sensibility that informs the feeling in the restaurant and the dishes on the menu — Italian-inspired with Southern California soul. I’ve been to Love and Salt many times and have always had a great experience. My boyfriend had never eaten there before, so I suggested we go to celebrate both our birthdays. Unfortunately though, were quite disappointed with our service. Our server didn’t come up to us a single time after we ordered, didn’t ask us if we wanted another cocktail, our pasta was barely warm and there was no acknowledgement of us celebrating a special occasion. Like I said, I’ve greatly enjoyed Love and Salt for years, but sadly this experience left a bitter taste in my mouth.

That said, service was great, ambiance was inviting. However, the food did not match up to the cost in comparison to other dining experiences. The hype of this place is known but not our experience!
