Love and Salt is a story that begins with Cafe Pierre, a restaurant birthed by Guy Gabriele in 1977 to bring a taste of France to Los Angeles’ South Bay. While Cafe Pierre was a beloved part of the community for nearly 37 years, in 2014, Guy and his daughter Sylvie Gabriele, now the owner of Love and Salt, closed the restaurant to bring new life to the iconic space.

Love and Salt is a philosophy: that food needs only two ingredients to be great. It’s a sensibility that informs the feeling in the restaurant and the dishes on the menu — Italian-inspired with Southern California soul. I organized a business dinner at L&S. Had never been, so a bit risky. It was a big success all around. Service for rez confirmation, hostess, bar and at the table was friendly, efficient and informative. Interested menu with spins on familiar dishes. We'll be back!

Love and Salt is fabulous dry time! Doesn’t matter what you order it’s all perfectly prepared and graciously served The food is original and traditional all at once. The chef is an individual yet not at all contrived. We will be back and sprea the word. Love and Salt is a treat!

The food and service were excellent. We started with the persimmon salad. It was delicious. I've never liked persimmons until I had this salad. Then we had the roasted chicken. I appreciated that they asked about food allergies and left the thyme out. The chicken was moist, and the bread that was soaked in the broth is something I will try to recreate at home. Finally, we had the butternut squash ravioli. I thought it would come out after the salad, but it was perfect at the end because it was both savory and sweet. I tried to add photos, but the app won't let me.

Food was delicious, but the space is sooo small. That made intimacy feel communal, as you’re sitting very close to others and yet can’t hear across the table. Excellent, excellent pizza and drinks just really squashed and loud.

We had stopped going several years back as we thought the food quality had dropped. What a delight to see it back in force! There are the great classics: Fennel salad, pizzas and delightful pastas. But innovative surprises: Wood Oven Mushroom Toast, Big Eye Tuna Crudo (pear, yuzu, crispy onion, mint) and across-Cross applesauce Cocktail. Yum!

Food and service were great. A little pricey. Atmosphere is fun and energetic but perhaps a little too loud. Had a pizza, pasta and dessert. All were exceptional. Cocktails were unique and flavorful too.

The rigatoni and the butternut squash pastas were muah, chef's kiss! The meatballs were amazing too! This place was very lively, and the tables were a little tightly squeezed in, but we didn't mind. It was a fun night and a wonderful dining experience. Hope to be back soon.

We had fennel salads, mushroom toast, Hilo Ken pizza and chicken. There were 5 women and it was the perfect amount of food. Service is friendly and helpful. Especially the manager Jen who accommodated us for a change in the number of guests. The room was a bit loud we sat in the middle of the room but the delicious flavors and generous portions made for a really nice evening

Let the restaurant know about a fowl allergy when booking. Never responded, when we went to order food, 90% of the menu utilized chicken stock in the dishes (except pizza). Way too loud! Finally the Manager was able to have the Chef make a special sauce for the Kobi beef. Food was excellent.

Food was good but server was a little rude at the end. I know she wants to go home but it was only 9:30pm and closing time is 10pm according to Yelp and their website as well. She poured the rest of the wine on my friend's glass without asking. This was already our second bottle and he didn't want to drink anymore. We also had a couple more bites of our desserts but she took the plate without even asking if we were done. Such a shame because everything else was good. Maybe management should train their staff.

This place is so loud. They pack you in like sardines and our waiter was not even a little friendly. We were seated about 15 minuets after our reservation but waited another 20 before anyone even came over. He didn't introduce himself and we had an awkward exchange trying to figure out if he was the person we ordered with. Once we established he was , we immediately ordered drinks and appetizers. Meatballs and olive spread. The drinks took another 20 min to arrive. When they finally arrived and realizing the food would probably take forever to come out we ordered our entrees. We reminded our waiter we were still waiting on our appetizers and wanted to make sure they were going to come out first, which he said they would. The olive spread came out about 15 min later, almost an hour after we arrived, and the meatballs came out as one pizza came and an pasta dish, so not before. The pasta portion was tiny. About 15 min later our second pizza came out along with a chicken dish we didn't order. Our waiter who had zero personality apologized; for some reason he mistook my sons Wagyu steak order for chicken, maybe because it's so loud in the restaurant or he just didn't listen? He had an attitude like were were an inconvenience. So we waited another 20 min for that to finally come out. The portions were so small we ordered another pizza and an extra French fries to make sure we didn't leave hungry. My two tiny margaritas were $20 each my son had to wait and re-request another Diet Coke. When we checked in to our reservation I told the host we were celebrating my sons birthday so at dessert I would like something brought out. Our waiter clearly knew nothing about that and unless I wanted to shout it at him across the table it was not going to happen. He didn't seem the least bit interested in even serving us dessert so we just asked for our bill and went to baskin robbins for dessert. Conclusion; this place tries to hard to be hip and cool. The service was terrible the wait

Excellent meal, great service. Will definitely be going back to try some other menu items we didn't get to. Only complaint is noise - when full (we were there at on a Sat night) it's impossible to have a normal conversation, you have to yell to each other and same with servers. With all the thought that's gone into the space - surprised there isn't more thought given to acoustics and customer experience.

Honestly we were disappointed last night, especially given the great experiences in the past. The food was good, but the service was lacking and the timing of the food prep/delivery was not paced. Everything literally came out all at once. While we rushed to try and enjoy it all while it was warm, it definitely took away from the experience and enjoyment of the dishes.

Pizza is excellent. Crust is so good that it would be yummy were it just drizzled with a little olive oil and garlic and just served w/o any topping. Tiramisu is also a winner. Great dining choice and just right up the street from Manhattan Beach pier. Highly recommend.
