Love and Salt
Love and Salt is a philosophy: that food needs only two ingredients to be great. It’s a sensibility that informs the feeling in the restaurant and the dishes on the menu — Italian-inspired with Southern California soul. An approachable wine list and classic cocktail program similarly reflect the vibrant SoCal setting of the restaurant, located just steps from the Manhattan Beach pier.
What Insiders Are Saying
Love & Salt is the upscale, but cool, Italian spot Manhattan Beach needed.
The pizza was awesome. I’m pretty picky about my crust and this was the best I’ve had in a long time. Yum
Amazing food & wonderful service! Definitely glad we made a reservation as the place was very busy for a weekday.
I surprised my husband for his birthday and the food was incredible. Great ambiance, fabulous service. We’d definitely go back!!
I really enjoyed the food at Love and Salt! The squash and burrata was fantastic, as well as the octopus salad. The cocktails were on point as well! The cacio y pepe pasta was solid, nothing new or different there. I like the atmosphere of Love and Salt a lot, but it is just so noisy, I actually would reconsider going there again. This time I was seated less than 2 feet from the other person who came with me and we could barely hear each other. I really hope they invest in some sound absorbing panels because it is a great spot!
This restaurant is a must. Every single dish was amazing!
Our favorite date night spot. Amazing food and a fun ambiance! Great service and always a good time.
Food was delicious and the brunch deal is great. Our server was WONDERFUL - very attentive, friendly, stopped to chat multiple times. The only thing that put me off was a manager asking us to move from our cozy booth to the bar to finish our beverages (we'd just gotten our last round) so that he could seat a party of 6.
Over all a wonderful dining experience . The kitchen sent out an appetizer of prosciutto with sweet butter which was the best we have ever had. My wife and one of my daughters ordered the whole Branzino which was perfectly done and they both love it. My second daughter order the Krikorian South pizza sooo delicious that she finished the whole pie by herself. I ordered the duck egg pizza and it was the best ever. Love this restaurant and plan to be back soon.
I love Love and Salt! Always great food - staff are lovely although when busy can be a bit slow!. Great ambience too only complaint is it is pretty jam packed - window seats are best - then booths against wall the tables in center are very close together. But this is still one of my fave go to restaurants in MB!
Fantastic everything. Really loved it. Only complaint is that the pizza was a little burnt, so not nice to chew on a Charlie bread crumbs.
Everything was amazing! Atmosphere, food and service was top notch! The duck egg pizza was to die for!! Will definitely be going back!!
It was on my Yelp review it was highly disappointing I will not be returning.
Delicious food, pleasant service, kind staff but the music is really loud. On top of the restaurant being noisy.
We had an amazing dinner. The food was so good! It is very loud though!
I was surprised ! .. Even being italian (LOL!) I am very delicate with my stomach and complexity in dishes carries more risks alongside! but the Octopus and especially the Pappardelle, which they were complex plates, turned out to be a super lean digestion! WOW ! Never happened in 20 years of italian food in LA!
I don't know the chef but: BRAVO !!
Slightly expensive but I guess it goes with the magnificent crowd and decor!
The noise, mmmhh, it is a little above the limit but I guess it makes you fell out & about among the living people!! ahaha
The server Jessica, carried the 'above due' sweetness and devotion of the best asian heritage tradition! If I was not with my wife after the second glass I would have married her! LOL and now in jail for Bigamy !
I was very Surprised! L&S: kudos!
Great food and service but way too noisy
However, zero vegan options :(
I came for a dinner date with my mom while she was in town visiting. It was such a delightful meal from our server to the wine list to the food. We will definitely be back to work our way through the menu!
Kinda pricy v good v worth but pricy
The shared plate offering were limited and pricey. The entres were even more limiting. The wines by the glass were definitely over priced! With so many California/West Coast wineries, why is it so difficult for some restaurants to find great value wines to offer? I can’t say, I will hurry back to Love and Salt!
Food and atmosphere was fabulous - our server perhaps having difficult day/eve...he did not seem happy to be there or serving us
Always enjoy my experience at Love and Salt- great food and great service. I always bring my friends here when they come to visit.
The only recommendation I have would be to integrate some kind of noise-dampening features in the restaurant. I don’t mind the music, but the voices from all the different people can be a lot when the restaurant is full. It makes it hard to talk with my friends and family.
Super cute spot with a nice decor, but the food was underwhelming. Two people in our party got the burgers and they said it was boring and tasteless. The other two meals were average. The service wasn't great it either. It was too busy, so I'm not sure what the issue was or if it's always that way...but I wouldn't go back.
Guests should note that food is brought to the table as it’s ready so be prepared for potentially awkward pacing. We went for brunch and it took a long time for anyone to take our order and even longer to bring us drinks. It was unfortunate since we sprang for the unlimited brunch drinks and only got 3 each despite staying for a long meal and dessert. That being said the food was fabulous - creative and brilliantly executed.
This place was so loud I could hardly hear my friend right next to me. Not one time did anyone from this restaurant go to the offending table and ask them to keep the noise level down. They were shouting in the restaurant. Yes, shouting. Ridiculous.
I ordered the mussels as my main dish and they were flavorless. The rest of the meal was adequate but nothing to write home about.
Wholly unimpressed. Don’t go here.
Good food in small portions, gnocchi lovely and light. Black kale salad with a hearty bite. And 2 desserts: tiramisu and pudding -DELISH.
Always a great spot for yummy dining cocktails and great service!
Great food and service in a lively atmosphere. Great spot for a romantic dinner or a larger group!
Let's just say, we had higher expectations.
First, even though we had a reservation, they refused to seat the party until everyone had arrived. And we were not late. Plenty of open seats at the 5:30 time slot on a Saturday evening.
The ambiance was casual and familial; the staff was attentive; food prices were reasonable.
We tried a variety of menu items to share. The two best items were the duck egg pizza, followed by the bone-marrow pasta. Nothing earth-shattering.
But note: the food/wine menu is very misleading. (To further clarify, there is a comprehensive wine list starting at exorbitant prices - that is not what was used.) The food/wine list followed what we thought was standard protocol of glass/bottle pricing, as in the section we were looking, there was no indication of pricing at all. So we ordered a bottle of wine, noted 12/32, which seemed very reasonable for what it was. So, we were surprised when the bill came out at $54 for the bottle of wine. When we questioned it, the manager pointed out that the prices were indeed marked as: glass/carafe WAY AT THE TOP OF THE MENU, and nowhere near the section that we were looking at. So buyer, beware.
What added to the insult was the manager was quite disingenuous in his apology and did not offer anything redemptive options to a table of four, who were clearly aggrieved by these practices. Any small gesture would have been a no-brainer... So, we have now experienced L&S. Whoopee.
The original menu and chef was by far the best. I’ve slowly been feeling a decline in offerings and taste.
Hosts/Wait staff and bar tenders are all excellent. Some have been there a while and everyone is truly on point.
Restaurant is very loud and very crowded during peaks. Lots of tables are really close to each other so minimal privacy or ability to talk at a regular volume. It’s a cool scene though if you’re ready for it.
Since the new chef, etc. we have noticed the authenticity, sauce, offerings have slightly changed. For example, they no longer serve burrata with the meatballs. Their meat sauce, while it tastes good, does not have tomato sauce. As a matter of fact, could not get a nice red sauce served with our pasta dishes. During previous visits last month, red sauce had too much of a sweet taste.
Anyway, I’m picky I guess and frequent Italy so my expectations of Italian food are just different.
I will go back and I did enjoy my meals. I just miss the original restaurant and menus before the changes. It was truly special.
We had heard and read much about it but were disappointed. The pizzas are OK, but for this standing and price you expect more than just OK. The crust of ours was burned underneath so I had to cut out most of it. I know the place is called Love and Salt but everything is way too salty, and I'm a big fan of salt in the first place. Portions are small for the price and although the service was exemplary, the place feel more like a sports bar with its counter and TV than I nice restaurant. Will not go back.
The service was nice, but the noise level is a bit much.
Love and Salt is my favorite restaurant! Amazing food and consistently good!
Went with two friends for an early dinner on a Tuesday and although it was empty when we got there when the restaurant opened, it was quite packed when we left. Great ambience and nice selection of food options. We had terrific service and enjoyed our meal. We shared the black kale salad (very small portion for the price), side cauliflower, and the anchovy and caper pizza. All were yummy but would have liked more of the salad.
The Risotto special was bland . The 5 grain salad was good .
This used to be my favorite restaurant ever!! Over the past few months, they have made a lot of changes to the menu (apparently there is a new chef) and I'm not a fan. My favorite dish was the old skirt steak with creme fraiche, fingerling potatoes, and wilted escarole. It was so so good! The sides that come with the new skirt steak dish are not good. I'm also missing the fennel salad!!!! It was so light and tasty (shaved fennel, lemon, parmesan) and they did away with it completely. The "substitute" is a kale salad with olives and a few other thins (totally different). We also tried the daily special 20-layer lasagna and it was terrible -- super dry and not flavorful at all. I will no longer be visiting this restaurant if things don't change...
Loved all of the food with the exception of the marmalade pancakes, they were way too bitter for me. Service was great. Will definitely be returning!
When I arrived for reservation we had to wait awhile because the previous guest was taking too long to leave. The General Manager, Nash, was very accomodating. He personally came over to appologize and bought my wife and I a glass of wine. He even brought over an appetizer right when we sat down and came over during our meal to make sure we were happy. Nash treated us very well. As a business owner myself I was very happy with the service provided to us by Nash. It turned out to be a great night. I will definitely be back and recommend this restaurant.
Had a nice table for 2 in a row in the middle of the room. It felt really private, but got the vibrant feeling.
The duck egg pizza was excellent as was the papparadelle. Excellent food. The cocktails were good as well.
Love the bone marrow pasta! Fun atmosphere, but I did lose my voice b/c it was so loud! Friendly service.
