Love and Salt
Love and Salt is a philosophy: that food needs only two ingredients to be great. It’s a sensibility that informs the feeling in the restaurant and the dishes on the menu — Italian-inspired with Southern California soul. An approachable wine list and classic cocktail program similarly reflect the vibrant SoCal setting of the restaurant, located just steps from the Manhattan Beach pier.
What Insiders Are Saying
Love & Salt is the upscale, but cool, Italian spot Manhattan Beach needed.
Love the bone marrow pasta! Fun atmosphere, but I did lose my voice b/c it was so loud! Friendly service.
I was so exceedingly excited. Food was extremely disappointing. The service was excellent. The crowd was rowdy. It was thanksgiving and I spent first 20 minutes next to a man and women yelling at each other drunkenly at the bar.
Not the place if one of your friends is vegan, server not helpful with possible options
I love the food and the portions. I can always find something yummy on the menu!
Food was incredible as always and the music is always on point! Will be back no doubt.
Love the food preparation! So happy this restaurant is in our neighborhood!
This restaurant serves items tapas style. The server was incredible. The glasses were never empty and the food came out as it was ready. She was very friendly and helpful. The place is really cool and on the romantic side. The food (flatbread in particular) was fantastic. My only reservation in giving 5 stars was the cost. While we thoroughly enjoyed it, and will most likely return, I think the dishes and cocktails were 10 to 20% overpriced. I understand it’s a very high end area, it’s just that a tapas portion of rigatoni shouldn’t be $20.
Went to this place for the first time for brunch with a friend and it was delicious! We got a great seat by the windows so we could people watch, but the space is really cute and cozy. The star is really the food though, it is taking a lot of traditional American-fusion fare up to the next level. Their drinks are also wonderful (#ineedcoffee!) and they have a great deal on bottomless brunch drinks!
Great food but REALLY REALLY loud! (Saturday night, 9pm)
Love and Salt is an interesting place with an interesting menu. I love their Kale salad. the pizza is great too. we tried some pasta that was just ok.
My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner on 2/7/19...this is one of the best restaurants we've been to in Manhattan Beach. We each ordered the Castelfranco Radicchio Salad, Grilled Skirt Steak and shared the Brown Sugar Pudding...... all super delicious!!!
With chef Feldmeier, they are now firing on all cylinders. The components of the Calbrian sausage pizza were in perfect harmony as they should be and the dough was as close to Naples as you can get in Los Angeles. The short rib ragu pasta was also a big step above the previous ragus which were good. Everything seems improved over what was previously very good. And that is not mentioning the outstanding roast chicken which will hold it’s own with the Zuni Cafe version. Live with the noise and enjoy your dinner along with lots of South Bay food lovers. I ‘ve already made my next reservation!
Limited and strange menu
We were a group of 6 so luckily we got to order so many delicious menu items. We loved the delicate squash, Branzino, mushroom pizza and short rib pasta to name a few.
Do. Not go here if you want to talk!
The pizza was fantastic. My husband said it was possibly the best pizza he has ever had (he got the meat lovers). I loved the duck egg pizza. Saltiness of the prosciutto with the creaminess of the egg was a great combo. The crust was thin and had that perfect chewiness and crunch. It was all delicious and I surprised myself by finishing the whole pizza which I don't usually ever do.
Overall terrific restaurant and service. In my small opinion, there are too many tables for the space. It is cramped.
Great overall. Shares starters and got our own mains. Waitress was very knowledgeable!
They need acoustics improvement. My Beet Tortolle was great, but the vegetarian choices were limited and my wife’s spaghetti looked like it came off a Kids Menu
Although Your restaurant had been recommended, I found the octopus tasteless, the kale was a 10/10, and the pasta in the bone marrow dish was undercooked and hard, and the service was poor.
From the warm yet modern atmosphere to the cozy “local” feel - the beautiful deco-style rendering of an aubergine colored dahlia climbing up the corner wall (deserves more of a spotlight imho)... An obviously well-stocked bar and even mock tails for us non-drinkers... a little Clippers action on a tv that is there if you are interested but not intrusive or distracting from the main draw here which is...THE FOOD. Yummmmm. From the Freakalicious salad 6 grains 5 herbs and slivers of fresh radish - a salad my friends and I marveled over while we ate it and long after we left - all professing it “the BEST salad we ever ate”. Then there is the PIZZA. Made to order it is perfection no matter which one you order. Perfect mixes of sausage, cheeses & herbs it comes to you piping hot set up high on a raised serving dish that encourages sharing. I have to say it’s the most completely divine dining experience I’ve had in YEARS. Not to mention the charm of the beach town boutiques nestled up and down Manhattan Beach Blvd. Gelato up the street after a stroll. It’s a destination I will return to often.
I have been to this restaurant several times and while I always like it, I wasn't blown away this time, especially for the price. We had several small plates but the waiter recommended that we also get a pasta but that ended up being more than the two of us could eat. The pear and prosciutto was a bit bland and, I know this may seem like an odd complaint, but too large for a small plate for two to share. I was happy that the restaurant wasn't too noisy -- a complaint I have with many restaurants these days. Again, I like this place and would recommend it but we found it overpriced for the things we got this time. So I gave it a 4 star.
Overall the food is good and it’s nice. High top chairs could be more comfortable. I think food is pricey for what you get. We had pizza, salads and desert.
Celebrating a birthday! Host was accommodating, wait staff engaged, bartender doing the most! Will return!
the food was very good, service was friendly and professional. Our table was so close to the party next to us that we felt we were part of a group. I personally would like a little more space so that conversations are private and there is a little more elbow room.
Wonderful, fun, and lively evening out. Chef Juan was simply fantastic, and we had a fantastic meal. Do yourself a favor and take the recommendations from the staff to heart, they will guide you on a culinary journey if you let them!
The food is insanely delish and creative!
Love this place!
The Freekalishious salad is the bomb! The food here is always good - never had anything that I didn't like! Only strange thing that happended is the our group changed from 5 to 4 people at the last minute when we arrived and the hostess had to check with manager to see if it was ok to still seat us.
One of our favorite restaurants. We are never disappointed...
Disappointing. Poor service except for the food runner- he was great. Food and service were adequate, at best.
If someone has a reservation for 2, don't make the spouse wait at the door ... just seat them, especially if the spouse is right outside parking the car. Server lacked rapport and treated the order taking super transactional ... won't be back.
The food was amazing and the wait staff was on point!
My wife enjoyed the pasta and collectively the prosciutto and pears as an appetizer but I was really disappointed with the porchetta..very chewy and overly seasoned.
Amazing food! Great service! We were going to have a traditional dinner, celebrating my brother's birthday, but we ended up trying all kinds of sides and appetizers! They were fantastic! So many choices! I think, next time, we'll have to try some main courses! Thanks!
Our meal consisted of three plates.
Roasted cauliflower, kale salad and porchetta. The vegetables were well prepared...especially the kale. However the most expensive plate,
The porchetta was a disappointment. The pork was tough and poorly prepared. We expected pork that was tender and shreaded easily. Instead, we were presented with tough pork that had been warmed up microwave style surrounded by interesting vedge mix. Additionally, the cabernet was pricey for the quality served. The tiramisu - decent but not memorable.
Good food. Not great. Nice wait staff. Had three people in our party. Food came out shortly for two of the three. The third dish came out after the other two had finished eating. No accommodation offered. Not great service experience.
My steak my horrible
Waiter forgot the second order of one of my guest
