What Insiders Are Saying
Love & Salt is the upscale, but cool, Italian spot Manhattan Beach needed.
Love this place!
We found the food here absolutely delightful. We had a lovely grilled octopus dish and a prosciutto, pear and mozzarella appetizer to start, followed by the duck egg pizza. It was all tremendous. The restaurant was a little loud for us, but certainly not too bad. We would definitely go back.
We really enjoyed our meal and our server was wonderful, but overall it will have to be a special occasion spot because it is very expensive
Great food and service. Little bit loud but still excellent!
THE DUCK EGG PIZZA IS LIFE CHANGING! I WOULD GO BACK JUST FOR IT!
Food simply too salty. Don’t understand the chef’s need to add salt to every dish. Now I know why they named the restaurant Love and SALT
Good: cocktails, meatballs, brown sugar pudding, were able to accommodate food allergies/service
Bad: but overpriced, extremely loud, pretty cramped
Didn’t love that the (inedible) stems were left on the Calabrian chilis on our pizza, and that there were very bitter burnt parts in the crust
To expensive !!!!! Small portions . Food excellent
Great food, especially the pasta and pizza. Strong beverage program and excellent service.
Everything from the appetizer to the dessert (butterscotch pudding with chocolate nibs and seasalt--AH MA ZING) was really good. Also loved the fennel salad. Light and a bit citrusy. It was nice to have pasta options for both me and my gluten-free husband. He said it was some of the best gluten-free pasta he's had.
I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful eclectic tastes and offerings on the menu. We tried several different menu items and found all to be perfectly seasoned, prepared and presented. Having lived in Chicago I must say the pizza here contends with the best there. The service was very attentive, pleasant and helpful. There wine list is very impressive, one that you would think of only finding in a fine dining establishment.
Amazing staff and so friendly! Everything on the menu is so tasty!
I’ve eaten here several times and you always know what your getting - even with the off-menu items. Always make a point to swing through when I’m in town, and will continue to do so next time.
My wife and I went there because we had read favorable reviews. We also had a third member in our party. We had a Chanterelle Pizza that was quite good and roasted broccoli that was OK, but rather dry and salty. The other member of our party had the trout, and liked it. We had a bottle of Rosso di Montalcino that was OK but somewhat overpriced. The wine list is acceptable but has too many pricey selections and too few wines that are reasonably priced.
The service was prompt and attentive.
The problem with Love and Salt is that it is extremely noisy. We arrived early and they had the music so loud that we couldn't converse. They turned it down a little when we requested them to do so, but as the restaurant filled up it became very unpleasant again. All the surfaces are hard and reflect sound. The noise level is unfortunate, because the food and service are good. If you are indifferent to the noise level, the restaurant is worth a try. If you want a relaxing dinner, better bring your earplugs!
Amazing dishes all the way through. We loved the food!
Excellent food, very creative and not to heavy, really enjoyed it.
Expensive. This place has always been expensive. Don’t know how or why, but the bill is always more than seems appropriate given quality level. Food is ok to good. Never amazing. But it’s convenient for us and we go back a few times per year. Maybe we will continue. Maybe we won’t...
Its been a while since I was truly surprised by food. Momofuku was the last time, almost a year ago. I was floored. New ideas flawlessly executed.
Two words - Rabbit Porchetta.
Had a reservation, got seated 20 min late. Food was delivered all at once, appetizers came AFTER the entree. Server never came back to take cocktail order for 2 nd round.
The carbonara was soooo salty I couldn’t eat it ! Tried to pawn it off on my friends but they couldn’t handle it either. Love and Too Much Salt is more like it !Water bottle never refilled, lack of attention to detail but very high prices make this a rip off ! Most of this was servers responsibility, but we have been here many times and this was the worst experience. Not going back 👎🏽
I love Love & Salt. The food is great and the service is usually great as well. Unfortunately, this time the food was brought out piece meal and I was the unlucky one who had to wait until my friends were almost finished with their meals before mine finally came out. Our waiter didn't seem very concerned. There was no apology whatsoever.
The food was ok, nothing memorable considering the price. The restaurant tried to copy MB Posts idea with biscuits and put English muffins on the menue - it looks like cheap imitation, and they basically charged us for the bread that other restaurants provide free of charge.
Notes for future diners- $16 martini. Average crowd is about 55+ (maybe it was on the night we went)
Huge fan of love and salt and never disappoints. Highly recommend the simple tomato pie. Also really enjoyed their seasonal peach salad. A little loud but was expected. Will definitely be coming back.
My wife and I went for our Eighth anniversary. We had reservations at the restaurant at the end of the street overlooking the water, but that place was noisy and pretentious, so we quickly knew it wasn’t for us. Love and Salt is the kind of restaurant for people who enjoy quality, creative dining without the pretense of “see and be seen“. The service was friendly and the food Was creative and delicious. We enjoyed the skirt steak as well as the cabbage and the shaved fennel salad. Wine by the glass is a bit heavy-handed on price, so be aware. We both agreed that we would go back, and we look forward to our next visit.
Amazing! Best food I’ve had in a while. My boyfriend enjoyed it as well.
Great vibe, great service. Kinda empty though on a busy Sunday afternoon, and very limited menu.
Love it. Overall, a great date place!
Great food. Great space. Everything came out just a bit too fast though. Felt like it was over quickly. :(
Excellent overall experience! I highly recommend. Duck egg pizza, wood fired meatballs, fennel salad and bucatini. The latter 3 are smallish plates. Great wine list!
Food ans aervice very good, acoustics are terrible. Too loud!!!
Wonderful night to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Experience was great. Love their salad and the dessert (brown sugar) was awesome!
Great food & great service . We enjoyed our drinks .
Pizza is super .
Great food. Fun dining experience. If a quite romantic dinner is what you are looking for you may be a bit disappointed. The seating is a bit close to other people, but the food was fantastic and we will definitely return....
Overall my experience at Love and Salt was a good one. I had a nice dinner with my husband and two friends. However, I felt that the food was very pricey, served in smallish portions and not worth the money that we spent. With a bill north of 200 bucks, I should have been knocked off my feet, and I wasn’t.
Family visiting from out of town
Great food but kitchen got things mixed up and somethings came out late and at the same time as the main course. Waiter comped us with a free dessert which was nice and delicious!
Food was amazing and the service was great!
Food was great, service was good and the seating was poor. The only tables for 2 are in the middle of the restaurant or a small booth table set in between larger tables.
Every time we go to L & S we love it!!! Food is always amazing. Fennel Salad, Tomato Pie topped with Arrugala and the TROUT!!!! Yummmm!!!
Our second time there. First time was excellent and the food delicious. However, this time we ordered pasta and it was exceptional salty, to the point that it was inedible. We told the waitress who immediately brought it to the attention of the manager. Both entrees were taken off the bill. Otherwise, everything else was delicious. Waitress told me that someone New was in charge of the pasta. Hopefully it was an off night.
