6 ppl. We decided to go for the tasting menu. Service was slow and the portions were decidedly too small to satisfy our stomach. We ended up going to the nearby McDonald's for a McDouble.
Our meal began at 8:15pm and did not end until 11:00pm. 4 dishes took an average of 30 mins in between, until the dessert which came relatively quick as it was prepared in advance. Most of dishes were relatively simple; a few cut vegetables here and there and a sauce. The flavour was mostly bland. The only highlight was the steak tartare which was terrific.
I am disappointed because I previously had a meal at l'Ouvrier that thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered from the main menu and was plenty satisfied with the experience hence my recommendation to come again.
If anything, avoid the tasting menu and just order what's on regular fare.
I have dined at Ouvrier twice now in the past month. While the menu is small, each dish is tasty and beautifully executed. A lovely amuse bouche was presented upon arrival. The servers are with out fault, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is casual but stylish.
Another bonus - it is handicapped accessible.
I recommend the asparagus salad and beet salad. We shared our mains and everything was great.
This is a favourite of ours. It was a little quiet that night as it was the first 'hot' night of the summer, but the food was still great. Service was good. Appetizers, like the tuna tartare and beef tartare are fantastic - and I really enjoyed my burger.
This used to be a great neighbourhood spot for dinner but not so much anymore. Brunch is always busy but dinner the restaurant is not very busy, yet it takes a long time to get food. And the menu rarely changes and there are few options to choose from, none particularly delicious but fine if you're looking to just put food in the belly. I keep returning hoping it will get better with different choices but no, so this was the last visit.
Bets of luck to you....
A friend from out of town suggested we go here. I had no idea about this place. What an amazing meal. Everything was perfect.. We did the 3 course with an add on of salad. Limited menu did not bother me at all. I want to eat everything on the menu. The kale salad was just for me and huge... The beef tartare was awesome. Tuna Tataki perfect and then the lemon meringue. OMG Going again soon.
Great food and ambience. Got plates to share and all were very good :)
Had the 6 course tasting menu. Everything was great. The squash and nut pasta was the standout for me. the lemon meringue desert was amazing. Great job all around.
Went for dinner with my parents at 6:30pm on a saturday- thought it would be packed but we were the second table there. Service was amazing, food was delicious and the modern ambiance was fantastic. the squash agnolotti was the tastiest pasta dish ive honestly ever had.
Love this place. The whiteness is gorgeous. There's never really a wait. The menu is diverse and great for sharing or not sharing. The wait staff is thoughtful, genuine and fast. Feels like eating at a friend's house who's a secret professional chef with great aesthetics.
Went with a friend. Service was excellent - our server was very friendly and helpful. My friend has many allergies and they accommodated her needs. We each had the 3 course prix fixe which was a great value - started with the tartare, had the seared tuna and daikon for my main, and baked Alaska for dessert. Everything was great!
The wine selection was a bit disappointing, but the oysters, amuse bouche, beet salad and tuna tartar were excellent; very subtle flavours and somehow satisfying despite smallish portions. The steak was excellent, but we made the mistake of sitting next to the door on a cold winter night, which rendered the meat prematurely tepid. Really excellent frits and aioli with the steak.
Service was impeccable. Food was excellent and ambient as well. Sad to see it not more vibrant and full. Perhaps some risks with the menu would make more people come. I say this only in the hopes that L'ouvrier will stay open for many years. Loved the experience and will recommend it to friends.
We were a group of 6 people at L'ouvrier for dinner. Had the tasting menu and was in love with the the dessert. The best part of the evening is having staff, Mookie care for us through the meal. She was so sincere and happy to assist with our requests. I've dined at many places, and must recoginize that she is the one of the best wait staff I've ever encountered.
There was nothing disappointing about this restaurant. Fantastic food, ambiance, and service. I'll definitely return and have already recommended it to friends
We had a wonderful time ! We went for dinner 7 people and loved the food and the service as well as the decor and quiet of the place which is hard to find ! The food is a very delicate mix of Japanese and Canadian and was very much appreciated by all the guests. We will come back !
Our party of six had dinner at L'Ouvrier on a Saturday night at 8:30 pm. Food was good, service was decent, but there were only three other tables with customers. Not sure why ...
Excellent food in a quiet tasteful setting.
