Big cavernous space and very light, particularly upstairs where you sit on the terrace level with the chandelier. Dated decor. Mixed food, some was delicious but some dishes were very mediocre.
The restaurant has a very good vibe with a very varied menu. Good selection of food at reasonable prices. Food was very good and service attentive.
Would definitely come back.
Great spot for lunch! Wonderful ambiance and equally delicious food.
Loulay never disappoints. From service to food and cocktails, it is solid, professional, consistent and worth every penny. Hats off to Thierry and his crew! (Thierry can leave his hat on I suppose!)
My daughters and I have been here twice, before shows at the 5th Ave Theater. We've loved everything we've tried (the risotto is amazing!) and the staff is friendly and efficient, what with patrons trying to get to the theater on time. I want to return when I don't have a deadline!
Really good French-Inspired food well presented & served.
Food was fabulous. Loved decor and ambiance. Roast chicken with sage cream sauce and fingerling potatoes was perfect. We were visiting Seattle for the first time. My husband wanted to go back again the next night!
We had reservations for 7:15 and arrived early at 6:45. The gracious host took our coats and invited us to wait in the bar where we had excellent service from both bartenders. Even though they were somewhat busy they were more than willing to answer questions and make suggestions. The dinner menu was unique! I enjoyed oysters, sashimi and scallops along with a scrumptious pate. My wife ordered a butterhead lettuce salad with grilled steelhead. All of this was accomplished with the help of our waiter who paired each with an appropriate wine, and we just let him run with it...it was the wisest choice . Loulay is a special place for a special dinner and we will return every time we pass through Seattle.
The food is good, though not exceptional. This was our third trip to Loulay. It's convenient to the theatre and we wanted a change of pace. The first time was great. The second time, we vowed we wouldn't come back. After a year or more, we decided to give it another try. This time, the experience was a mix. Service was terrific. I had sashimi and a salad, both of which were good enough that I'd order them again. My husband had a burger and fries. Definitely not a specialty of the restaurant! We'd go back, mostly because the options close to the theaters are so limited.
Loulay was excellent as usual. I always go there before going to the theater at ACT and it never disappoints. I finally tried the French onion soup that had been recommended by a couple of people and it was easily the best I've ever tasted. Our appetizer wasn't as we expected and it was removed from the bill without us asking. I'll definitely go to Loulay anytime for brunch, lunch or dinner.
Wonderful dinner !! Food was absolutely delicious! Definitely expensive, but I went in knowing this. Would highly recommend!
Wow. Very expensive and yet worth every penny. Took my wife there after the matinee at 5th Avenue Theater. Can't do it very often, but excellent.
Fun lively atmosphere and delicious food!
A very nice place. Excellent meal and professional service. I highly recommend.
Sommelier picked out fantastic wines at reasonable cost. The food particularly the steelhead was outstanding.
The ambiance was great and we had a nice conversation with daughter and son in law for a perfect evening.
I always love eating at loulay
The beignets with cardamom creme anglaise were outstanding, as were the shrimp and grits. Not sure the Benedict was worth $26, but it was very tasty.
My husband and I dined at Loulay while on a weekend visit to Seattle. One of the best meals I've ever had! The waitstaff was friendly and professional. We will definitely be back if ever in the Seattle area again.
One of the best dinners we have had in Seattle. The Mushroom Medley was by far in the top three of dishes I have had ever, could eat this evernight. Manager stop by the table to chat, very knowledgable abot the food and preparation and also made a fantastic dessert recommendation. We will be back!
We love it here and we love chef. Food is amazing.
My friend and I just had salad an main for dinner. The salads were outstanding. My friend had the house salad and I had the butter lettuce salad with tarragon dressing. Both were excellent as they had interesting flavors and were not overly dressed. For main, my friend had the bouillabaisse which was excellent and I had the rib eye cap steak which was probably the tastiest beef I've had in a long, long time. So beefy, tasty, and satisfying.
Delicious food, an interesting menu, friendly and helpful waitstaff, elegant receptionists, an attractively simple décor with fun accents (take in the big mirror on the 6th Ave wall), all round a nice place to eat. The French onion soup is one of the best I've ever tasted.
Love that the chef stops by to say “hi”
What a gem of a French bistro that for some reason I have missed for the past five years since it opened. The food was outstanding. I had steelhead and my husband had a steak that literally melted in your mouth. The sauces were delicate and flavorful. Wine list was excellent. This place is not inexpensive but worth the price. We will return. Oh and the staff was attentive but not overly present, knew the menu for recommendations and information, and was very friendly.
Service and staff were perfect. Loved to see how well the staff worked together as a team. Updated menu was terrific.
The waiters are ignoring us for most of the time
My friend and I met here for dinner before going to the ACT theater. Our waitress was friendly, informative and nice. I think her name was Jenn? I ordered the mussels and she gave me a taste of a wine that paired well with them. She was spot on. Everything I had was delicious(mussels, salad and wine). Will come back again.
Excellent food and service. I was impressed they remembered us from
"Rover days". I appreciate the booths but there is still noise from other diners.
I don't know if upstairs sound level is better or not. We truly love the food and the presentation.
We miss Rover's.
Quiet on an early Sunday evening before the theatre. Lovely food - the scallops were fantastic and my daughter felt the same way about her steelhead. The service, which in some restaurants suffers on quiet evenings, was wonderful - attentive but not overbearing. Our first time at Loulay, but we'll return.
We have been here several times, but first time for breakfast. Very disappointed in service we received this time.
Loulay's - like being in New York or Paris. Bon appetit!
I enjoyed dining at a table by the window on a Sunday morning. I started with a cappuccino and watched as the rain tried to turn into sleet and then snow. I I ordered the Farmer's Breakfast: two pieces of grilled sourdough, two 1/8" slices of Drunken Goat cheese from Murcia, Spain (it was mild and smooth), one sausage (unnamed, undescribed, savory, not sweet), a compote of red bell pepper and pear, and a mix of charred sunchokes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts. It was just the right amount of food to energize and fortify me for the trip to SeaTac.
Lovely restaurant. Food was delicious. Service was very good. Will definitely go again. So good that we purchased a gift card for a friend.
Outstanding food and service.
Wonderful place with friendly service!
Visiting Seattle. It was a pleasure to stop and enjoy dinner at Loulay before the evening show. Best chicken entree ever! Overall great experience with great foods. Love the restaurant. Love the city.
No complaints - beautiful space, good food, attentive space. Just wanted to let folks know that some of the tables are up 1-2 flights of stairs. We were dining with elderly parents, and the steps were a bit of a challenge for them.
Solid! Quality food and great ambiance.
Fabulous food and a beautiful space
We always are delighted with the food and wine at Loulay, but tonight we’re reminded that equally excellent is their superb wait staff. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and which wine would complement our choices. She was appropriately attentive and the other staff who cleared and served were quiet, polite, and came just when they should. It’s the best service we’ve had at a restaurant in the Seattle area!
