Several large, noisy tables. Chicken badly over cooked but the rest food was quite good. Shrimp excellent
Mother’s Day Dinner.
We went to Louisiana Purchase on Mother's Day evening. On the plus side, the mussels appetizer was delicious, particularly the sauce. Order extra bread to sop up the sauce. The fried green tomatoes were also tasty. Unfortunately, the Louisiana Jambalaya entree was just okay. It was mostly rice and was served with cold salsa on the side (supposedly to make it spicey). Stay for the appetizers, skip the entrees. Finally, perhaps because it was Mother's Day, service was quite slow. We waited a half hour for the appetizers and another 45 minutes for the entrees.
My adult daughter and I both enjoyed a great Mother's Day celebration. The food was magnificent and some dishes were not spicy which we both appreciated. We're not enthralled with almost all restaurants being kid friendly. We enjoy adult company especially for celebrations and dates.
Louisiana Purchase has been a favorite of my husband and I for 30 years. Always guaranteed an excellent meal.
We felt that the size of the table (for 4) was too small.
As usual the food was amazing, service was excellent and it made for a wonderful evening.
The food and ambience were wonderful, I hadn't been in a while and now can't wait to go back as there are so many dishes on the menu that are great.
This is by far my favourite place to dine. Authentic cajun fare - packed full of flavour and the portions are huge. Enough for a next-day meal. My husband and I have spent time in New Orleans and have to say that the food at Louisiana Purchase rivals many of the meals we shared in NOLA. This is a classic Edmonton restaurant - one of the city's finest, I'd say. Plus, the ambiance in there is AMAZING. Love it!
We have been to LP twice in the last 2 months; first time was amazing, the portion was huge, the ambiance was great, especially for a date night. The service was quite slow and the servers didn't seem like they cared too much to be there. The second time we went with a group of 5, again, the service was slow and our waitress talked so quietly! The portions were smaller than our first time here, but it was all overlooked because the chicken and waffles is way too good.
Very good food and service
We had two birthdays to celebrate last weekend so we were looking for somewhere different and unique. We have never been to Louisiana’s purchase but looked at the online menu and decided to give it a try. The service was awesome, the food was hot and good and we couldn’t ask for a better night.
Great food and atmosphere
Great food and service as always.
Enjoyed a fantastic meal with amazing service. We will be back!
This is our special occasion go to. The food is outstanding the service is fabulous. This was the first time our daughter was able to join us and she was beside herself about the food. She had the southern fried chicken and couldnt stop raving. As always friendly courteous service.
I hadn’t been here for a long time but decided it would be a good choice for lunch with my friend and was not disappointed. The food was so delicious and the service was outstanding! And the chocolate pecan pie too good for words!! I am so glad we went there and will not wait so long before returning.
Delicious food, and the service was wonderful. They made you feel welcome. They were attentive and quick
Arrived a little early but our reservation was good, we were seated given menus and asked if we would like drinks. I ordered the satisfaction plate which was great but did notice the the price was the same but the portion was smaller than the other times I had ordered it, it was good though. Never had a bad meal at LP
We dine out once a month with our friends, and make a point to try different restaurants. We thought the food was good, ambiance was a bit dark and tables were a bit crowded. Also noisy - much louder than other restaurants we’ve been to. It felt more like a pub or family restaurant. Bill was more than we were anticipating as well - most expensive night out we’ve had thus far. Overall - dinner and restaurant was good. Not fabulous, and not terrible. Just good.
Always a fantastic experience with great food and friendly attentive service. Already booked my next reservation!
Louisiana never disappoints, an excellent night, the staff were outstanding and the food matched the service. Will always return to this downtown gem
Had lunch with a friend....soup, sandwich and a dessert.
The food was great.
The service was very friendly and prompt.
Overall it was a very nice lunch experience.
At this point, the Louisiana Purchase has become somewhat of a local institution. It remains a casual and friendly establishment with a reliable menu, good food, great staff, and a New Awlins vibe. It might have been the Thursday night, but we did not find it too crowded. For a party of 7, including 2 children, we found the service prompt & responsive, food delivery hot & tasty, and overall ambience conducive to an extra pre-dinner cocktail (try the Buffalo Sour). We sampled a variety of appetizers and entrees off the menu. You'll want to try the Alligator Swampstick once, but it is the other offerings that make the food experience a genuine enjoyment. We highly recommend Dem Bones, Boudin Sausage, Alley Kat Beer Battered Sesame Shrimp and Crispy Crab Cakes for appetizers. As for entrees, we ordered Fried Chicken and Waffles, Southern Fried Chicken, Cherry Cola BBQ Ribs, BBQ Pork Tenderloin, and the Fried Eggplant & Vegetable Creole. None of the dishes were overly spicy. They were served hot with generous portions, and full of flavour. The only order that did not live up to expectation was the BBQ ribs--they were bland and almost tasteless. In fact, I would advise the kitchen wizards to look at Dem Bones as inspiration for the Cherry-Cola BBQ Ribs (perhaps a better glaze is needed because the concept is a seller). But, what the heck do we know. We are gourmands, not chefs! We will be returning to the Louisiana Purchase, and we recommend to you and yours as a dining option. You will not be disappointed...unless, you are a whiner. If so, then go anyway, for there are dishes for whiners too. They're in the back of the kitchen and require a little detergent and elbow grease.
This was our first visit. We were very impressed with the quality of the food. The service was great. Can not wait to go again
U was the most impressed with our personable waitress Nicole. Next the decor and music makes me think of New Orleans. The seafood in the linguine dish was so-so but the salad and green fried tomotoes wee excellent.
I was disappointed that no one wished me son a happy birthday or asked if we were celebrating anything. I had made mention of the birthday on the on line reservation.
Overall a nice supper and friendly service.
We had a very relaxing dinner, next time I would definitely request a upper level table, the chairs on that level looked a lot more comfortable, ours were hard. Food was outstanding even though the portions, in my opinion were small. If you are paying over $30 for ribs, I would expect a full rack, Not a 1/3 - 1/2 rack at best.
this is our favorite go-to when we are in Edmonton. It is a perfect place for date night! it has never disappointed. thank you for the continued high quality food and experience!
There were three servers in total working on a Saturday night and they all seemed quite busy. Took a bit to be greeted at the front door but the quality of service was still excellent throughout and the food and bill both came in a timely manner. Excellent appetizers, however the crab in my entree didn’t taste as fresh as it has at other Edmonton locales. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
Food was very good with lots a options on the menu, however i feel they were very understaffed as the hostess seemed to not be there only 3 servers for approximately 60 people. It took upwards of 15 minutes to get our drinks to the table ( bartender appeared to be working the bar and kitchen) 1.5 hours to get our food and 1 drink.
The food is tasty, a little spicy. For anyone that enjoy cajun, check it out. My only negative is that it is a little pricey, for a special occasion and you are not concerned about spending money you will enjoy this restaurant.
Been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got the chance. It did not disappoint. Ordered the swamp stick (alligator) to start. The sauce was great but I found the meat tough. My main was the seafood jambalaya. Delish. Only complaint and it's a small one. It would be nice if they precracked the crab legs as they are co eres in sauce and rice. Hubby had the chicken/rib special. He enjoyed it. We wanted to save room for dessert so we never finished all of the rice. Waitress packed it up and informed us that it's really good for breakfast with a fried egg on top. She did not lie. So good the next day. For dessert we shared the chocolate pecan pie. I prefer the original but this is a close second. My complaint with this restaurant is the same I have in everyone one that is at this price point and uses paper napkins!!! Please just no. When I'm paying $30 a plate I shouldn't be using the same napkins as McDonald's. At this price point clothe napkins should always be a must. Would I eat here again? You bet! Can't wait to try more items on the menu.
Service was great, and so was the food! Can’t wait to come back!
Loved it. Best meal we have had in a while. Staff was awesome and food to die for.
Atmosphere was cozy and authentic
The service is always great. The food is delicious. The menu has so many fantastic sounding options, but I keep coming back for the cherry cola ribs and Bon Ton Poulet. Yumm.
First time here even though it's been around awhile and so have we!
What a nice surprise to find a great restaurant with prompt service, friendly atmosphere, a server that was attentive but not intense, good hot food prepared perfectly and in abundance. We went with friends and never felt rushed but our food came in good time and all the timing was spot on. Three of us had the fried chicken which was superb. Very tender and tasty, delicious buttermilk mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing and vegetables. Could have used a few more veggies and maybe a little less meat but I'm not complaining. My husband had their jambalaya and said it was excellent.
All in all a great meal in a great restaurant.
As always, the food and service was excellent. We have visited this restaurant several times and they never disappoint. Thanks for the great experience, our family recommends this fine establishment!
Food is consistently good - flavour, temperature, choices. Service is attentive but not smothering. I'm not a drinker but my table mates always find something they enjoy. Prices okay for evening menus. It is a bit loud but then you don't have to worry about others overhearing your conversation. Overall one of my favourite places to go.
Restaurant has been a staple in Edmonton for years. Getting tired, nothing special. Better Cajun choices in Edmonton.
A neat restaurant with delicious southern food! A bit pricy but worth it for the most part. Service was great and atmosphere is cool!
