Louie's Modern Ratings and Reviews
It was my mom’s birthday. The service was wonderful and the food was outstanding. We arrived early and had som cocktails in the bar to start. The bartenders we very attentive and the drinks spectacular. The food was out of this world. They even brought my mom a desert with a sparkler in it for her birthday.
The food was excellent and beautifully presented, but unfortunately, the service was below our expectations based on previous visits. The two of us were seated at a table next to the very busy open kitchen and left waiting with no attention from staff for prolonged periods of time. The table of 4 next to us was offered a bottle of champagne for their inconvenience - we were offered soup! We declined, and eventually the captain comped our drinks. I hope the issues we experienced at this visit were a one-time glitch; it is a shame for poor service to diminish the overall experience and the pleasure of wonderful food.
We love Louie’s and come here right away when we get back to Sarasota. This time we noticed that the tomato and Burrata appetizer has gotten much smaller. Many less tomatoes and a brick sized pice of salt. Also we decided to have their burger and we ordered it true rare and reiterated it that we didn’t want it medium rare. Of course, it came medium rare and it was very tasty. My fries were limp and stuck together on the plate. We will write if off to an off night and we the next time will be better.
Very disappointing. We had been regular customers because of the eclectic menu (eg wedge salad with Gorgonzola dressing, duck dishes, etc). It seems to have been replaced by a very pedestrian selection of fish and steaks. Yawn. We can go to any number of places for that. That said...the steak and prawn dishes we were compelled to order were unspectacular. Not sure the reason for the change...but we are not thrilled. Sorry to say...we won’t be back for awhile.
We had a group of eight go there for the Thanksgiving buffet. $65 plus tip, tax, and wine per person, so the total bill for the eight of us exceeded $1,000. For the most part, the Food was delicious, with the exception of the turkey. The turkey was a turkey roll, white meat only. I mean, for $1000, you would think the chef would know how to cook a turkey, or at least go to Winn Dixie and pick one up. Also, no pumpkin pie. How can you have Thanksgiving dinner without pumpkin pie and lousy turkey. I can only guess the chef is French, and nobody explained to him American Thanksgiving traditions. Anyway, everything else was good, but won't go back again for a holiday meal.
We had Thanksgiving dinner there. The ambiance was very much like a cafeteria - noise was significant. The seafood part of the buffet was excellent - lots of choice and very fresh, tasty.
The rest of the menu was quite bland. Turkey was OK but not better - the roast beef was VERY hard to chew. Deserts were good. Overall not worth the price. Sorry
Amazing Thanksgiving buffet with lots of unusual foods as well as the traditional Thanksgiving fare, displayed in the huge ballroom and brought back to our table in the restaurant just steps away. Every item was beautifully prepared, incredibly delicious and made us wish we had an extra stomach so we could just keep on eating. Kale Caesar salad , mussels in delicate white wine, pretzel stuffing, colossal shrimp cocktail, and the most delicious bread we ever tasted, were just some of the offerings included on this endless array of fine food.
This will be our new Thanksgiving tradition every year for years to come!
We went for Thanksgiving dinner. We didn't know the restaurant was having a buffet style spread, but it was awesome -- the best I've ever seen. There were three of us and we all thought the food looked great and tasted great and service was great too. However, when we got the bill, we were a bit impressed by the price tag as well, especially because we are all fairly light eaters. Next time, I'll ask a few more questions before I book a reservation. But, the restaurant did do a fantastic job.
When we arrived we waited for 2 minutes at the empty host station before being sat. 5-8 minutes we had water but had not seen our server. Server then took drink orders and nothing else... another 8-10 minutes before finally ordering our food. The restaurant was not busy at the time but did seem woefully understaffed. I would like to say that’s the only reason for the poor service but both the manager/host and kitchen staff found time to use their cellphones while we waited.
That said, the food was great. So there’s that...
We have enjoyed this spot in the past, but this time the food was uninteresting and the service was really poor. The restaurant was not crowded, yet we waiting a very long time for both the appetizer and the main -- and when the main came, it was barely warm. We like the pre-theater dinner, but it was a real disappointment this time on all counts
There was no one at the front desk upon our arrival. Finally were seated after a few minutes, were given water and then ignored. They were not busy? We walked out and no one seemed to care that we did.
The only thing dumber than the poor service is your requirement that rate everything on your list when we did not have any food to rate!
Never did a review before and probably wont again.
Ever since the Ritz-Carlton stopped offering its over-the-top Sunday brunch, we have been on the lookout for a venue that would be perfect for special occasions and impressing guests from out of town. Louie’s Modern fills the bill. I had only been there once before for their brunch. It was quite good, and I especially drooled over the prospect of again eating a dessert composed of whipped cream and chocolate in the form of a cake or pie. Alas, at this second visit it was not available. But OMG, everything that WAS offered was exquisite. I have never had better sliced roast beef and pork in my life. So tender and moist! The bottomless mimosa certainly put me in a good mood to enjoy other items such as delicate hash brown potato pancakes and eggs Benedict. So good that I couldn’t manage to try everything. My friends were happy and impressed. Service was excellent. At a price of $35 plus $5 for a bottomless drink, I think this place is a bargain. Bravo Louie!
The summer menu, in a word, is awful. There was not one red meat entrée except for a hamburger. The entrées are overdone and the majority of the appetizers and small plates are some kind of fish taco. Really? I'll go to a taco stand if I want a taco - not to what is supposed to be a fine dining restaurant. Get back to your regular menu fast or you'll continue to have nights when the total number of patrons including us was 11 people.
