Louies Modern Ratings and Reviews
Worst experience. Rude host , dismissive when we left and told him he had been rude. Waiter didn’t seem to care that an hour had passed and we still didn’t have our entrees. So we paid for our drinks and appetizers and left without dinner. The host was chatting with apparent friends and not only was he uncaring that we were leaving he continued talking with them. Most interesting was the waiter exerted pressure to order the entrees with the appetizers, yet ours still didn’t arrive when other diners nearby had been served and had departed
Louie's Modern is a solid performer. Every meal we've had here over several years has been as good as is within the venue's control (we can't blame them for weather and so on). One of the review questions asked if you would recommend them -- and, in fact, I did (to influential coworkers, one week before the meal at issue here, and I had no regrets).
LM has a nice ambiance and high-grade, attentive staff. The menu is a little one dimensional
and could use some attention to expand the option. For instance, I would like to see them expand the seafood options to include sea bass and tuna. They had three beef options, and could benefit from some greater selection there. Overall, nice meal with very good waiters at the high end of price/value.
Very poor relative to prior visits. Food selections on Christmas Eve just average. Service was poor. Bread came well after appetizers and only after our third reminder. Cocktails came after the first course. Rushed us even though no seatings after us. Very disappointing experience given the high price and automatic 20% gratuity.
Louie's used to be my go-to downtown restaurant before theater or opera. The food was delicious and creative. Now it's lost its zest.
Our food was good, only the steak and cauliflower flatbread were outstanding. The halibut special, while beautifully presented with excellent side dishes, was dried out.
Our waiter was singularly inattentive, disappearing after he had taken our order and reappearing when we were ready for the check, with one quick stop to ask if "everything was delicious." He didn't bring the bread he offered when we ordered, though fortunately the other service staff was attentive. This was not a function of how the staff is organized, as I saw other waiters at their tables frequently.
In addition, the tables are uncomfortably close together. The member of our party seated at the corner near the aisle was bumped several times, by other patrons and by staff including the maitre d', until we pulled the table uncomfortably close to the wall.
I wish someone at Tableseide would spend time freshening their existing locations before opening new ones.
After not visiting for a while gave Louie’s another chance. The service was spot on and our server was very attentive as well as informative regarding specials and changes to the menu. We choose several appetizer of three One was special and tas5y. Forget the calamari, cold and tasteless.
Expensive for what you get in terms of food quality...not special nor unique
Our party of 6 had a very enjoyable meal and it just happened to be in a Wednesday bright when all bottles of wine priced between $50.00 and $100.00 are half price—nice surprise. We had a variety of entree’s including Red Snapper and beef tenderloin with the add-on of 3 gulf shrimp. One in the party had a birthday the next day and they treated the table with a large serving of tiramisu with a sparkler and the waiter sang Happy Birthday!
All in all a very good meal and an delightful dining experience.
We have had brunch here several times, but this time was a disappointment. At our first visit there was a fantastic whipped cream:chocolate cake, never to be had on subsequent visits. Last time there was melt-in-your -mouth sliced pork. Replaced this time with sliced turkey that tasted like processed turkey, not fresh sliced. Mussels were tiny, shriveled up and too salty. Desserts were mediocre. Coffe was an extra charge of $4 with no warning of this from the waitress. We were never offered their bottomless mimosa or Bloody Mary cocktails. Potato snacked were heavier and not crispy as they were previously. We will give Louie’s another chance because we know they can do better.
It was my mom’s birthday. The service was wonderful and the food was outstanding. We arrived early and had som cocktails in the bar to start. The bartenders we very attentive and the drinks spectacular. The food was out of this world. They even brought my mom a desert with a sparkler in it for her birthday.
The food was excellent and beautifully presented, but unfortunately, the service was below our expectations based on previous visits. The two of us were seated at a table next to the very busy open kitchen and left waiting with no attention from staff for prolonged periods of time. The table of 4 next to us was offered a bottle of champagne for their inconvenience - we were offered soup! We declined, and eventually the captain comped our drinks. I hope the issues we experienced at this visit were a one-time glitch; it is a shame for poor service to diminish the overall experience and the pleasure of wonderful food.
We love Louie’s and come here right away when we get back to Sarasota. This time we noticed that the tomato and Burrata appetizer has gotten much smaller. Many less tomatoes and a brick sized pice of salt. Also we decided to have their burger and we ordered it true rare and reiterated it that we didn’t want it medium rare. Of course, it came medium rare and it was very tasty. My fries were limp and stuck together on the plate. We will write if off to an off night and we the next time will be better.
Very disappointing. We had been regular customers because of the eclectic menu (eg wedge salad with Gorgonzola dressing, duck dishes, etc). It seems to have been replaced by a very pedestrian selection of fish and steaks. Yawn. We can go to any number of places for that. That said...the steak and prawn dishes we were compelled to order were unspectacular. Not sure the reason for the change...but we are not thrilled. Sorry to say...we won’t be back for awhile.
We had a group of eight go there for the Thanksgiving buffet. $65 plus tip, tax, and wine per person, so the total bill for the eight of us exceeded $1,000. For the most part, the Food was delicious, with the exception of the turkey. The turkey was a turkey roll, white meat only. I mean, for $1000, you would think the chef would know how to cook a turkey, or at least go to Winn Dixie and pick one up. Also, no pumpkin pie. How can you have Thanksgiving dinner without pumpkin pie and lousy turkey. I can only guess the chef is French, and nobody explained to him American Thanksgiving traditions. Anyway, everything else was good, but won't go back again for a holiday meal.
