Our kids always request to go here and when I have no energy to argue with them I acquiesce. Then I always ask myself how we ended up here. You can NEVER sit in the bar area. Every time we have come here they tell us the exact same thing “these tables have been booked for two weeks”. The food is par at best. Without fail each time we dine there is something that is forgotten— glass of wine, an appetizer, a side dish. We order a lot with two adults and two teen boys but it’s no excuse for it to happen every single time. The waitresses and waiters just seem unphased that they are at work and have customers.
There are so many other places in the area that are far better
Favorite spot in Greenwich/Cos Cob. Welcoming, energetic, solid menu, good friendly service and never been disappointed at Louie's. Recomend the Louie's Salad, Polpo and Beans, Orrechette Bari, Chicken Romana, T-bone Veal Chop (special), pasta specials and Veal Nostro. Other menu items are equally as good!
Each week my wife and I look to go to a restaurant we haven't gone to in the past...I look on Open Table...this week, we were celebrating my wife's birthday and I selected Louie's Italian Restaurant...we both enjoyed it very much....the ambiance was warn and old fashioned, a neighborhood gem...the noise level was festive ... the food was very good...we liked it so much that we suggested it to my brother and his wife and we all went there this past Saturday evening...again, it didn't disappoint.
Very overpriced comfort food for a small village.
Cuisine not the service was worth the $10 up charge per item compared to other Fairfield county Italian places.
This is one of those places local go simply because "we've always gone there."
The food was ok, but run-of-the-mill for their segment. They do not make their own pasta, but use factory-made ravioli wrappers and pasta. ( for the price, this should be housemade)
If you want comfort food this is the place- if you want Italian food, skip it and look for kitchens who cook the dish on site from soup to nuts.
Local Italian food...Louie's has quality food and a good staff. Veal Milanese was excellent but $44 for a Steak is pretty pricy. My daughter loved the quality but you have to her that down under $40, right. Finally, not sure why required valet parking is needed on a quiet Sunday night in the summer.
I took my wife and her mother here after a show and it was our first time at this restaurant. We got a table in the bar area which we didn't request. The place seems to be for locals form the neighborhood as it was very lively, meaning impossible to have a normal conversation. Service was inattentive and very impersonal, clearly an area with lots of room for improvement, pulling down the overall rating substantially. Food was a bit or miss. We had the Filet Mignon Carpaccio - absolutely recommendable, the salad from the specials - great, and the Prosciutto and Melon - don't bother, as starters. The Short Rib Ravilios were fantastic, al dents, flavorful, tender meat while the Veal Nostro was at best average, putting it politely. If you want to add calories, don't pick Louie's for dessert. What a disappointment and that although we specifically asked the waitress about the preparation who obviously didn't have the slightest idea. Hence know what you eat and don't expect great service them it can become you every now and then neighborhood Italian restaurant.
Very disappointed. Brought antipasto to table with no utensils . When we asked for serving pieces we were told to use our silverware. Finally we asked again and received. We had to ask for bread. Shrimp fra diavlo did not come over pasta. Had to pay $5 extra for pasta. Unwilling to use chicken instead of veal in two dishes. Come on - I have never been refused when I have asked to substitute chicken instead of veal. Ended up with chicken parm that was tough. Often chicken parm can be cut with a fork - should have known when they gave me a serrated knife. Suggested this restaurant to two friends who had never been before and I was embarrassed . I had not eaten there for about 3 years and obviously there have been some changes . Unfortunately not for the better. Might want to think about some adjustments before you open in Darien.
Waitress untrained - kept interrupting conversation. Didn't know menu - ordered 3 glasses of chardonnay for $13/glass - she offered the bottle for $30 - and returned to the table to say bottle was $60. What restaurant offers a bottle that is more expensive than ordering by the glass?
Appetizers were grossly expensive. Food was average - mistakes on menu; melon on prosciutto and melon appetizer was different than melon served. A restaurant with these prices should have an Expediter in the kitchen to catch these mistakes or at least let the customers know.
Very disappointed - will never return.
This is a great place for a meal after 9PM, when most restaurants in the area stop serving. They have great specials and a very reasonably priced and delicious veal chop with truffle oil. We had blue point oysters and veal rollatini over capellini and veal with artichokes in a brandy cream sauce.
Louie's has been and will continue to be our favorite in the Greenwich area! A super spot anytime especially on a Friday evening after a week of work. Quieter early with an active bar later on. If dining after 7:30, suggest requesting either the front or back dining room. Pier and his wait staff are always accommodating. Do not be afraid to ask. They will try to meet your requests.
The Darien crowd is lucky as Louie's is opening an outpost there in Late April/early May in the Darien Social location.
