L'Ottavo - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
I had my birthday party at Lottavo restaurant, such a great experience ❤️cozy small restaurant with great atmosphere I had seafood pasta on the special called Linguine pescatore with some clams, mussels, and salmon in white wine marinara sauce it was so tasty. After that my friend ordered Tiramisu as a birthday cake it's so pretty and super delicious, very nice service my glass of water never empty I got attention from server all the time. Highly recommend to visit.
The service was good, but the pasta dishes looked like a messy and tangled blob of over cooked vegetables and runny “pink” sauce (since when is combining marinara and cream sauce called “pink sauce”?). It tasted average. The neighboring table’s food didn’t look that much better. With all the good Italian restaurants in the area (Fino), we won’t return to this one.
This is not just another Italian restaurant and I’ve had many outstanding ones. The dishes have depth and the flavors are so delicious! Even the bread and dipping sauce are special. The spumoni is the best we have ever had!
My wife and I stayed in Union Square area to visit our sons who are in Stanford and Berkeley. We looked for an authentic Italian and quiet place. L'Ottavo marked perfectly and we had a great time. Food were tasty and each portion was abou a right size. Services were attentive, yet not disturbing. It's located conveniently in the area. We surely go back there next time when we visit SF.
This is an excellent, traditional Italian restaurant - not corrupted by nouvelle cuisine. Both seafood and meat dishes we ordered were very good - served quickly and hot - which for some reason is a rarity in San Fran.
Service was excellent - courteous and discrete.
Went with friends and we all ordered different entrees and tasted each other's. Everything we had was great...from the crab bisque and carpaccio, to the lasagna, penne with sausage, and veal. Love that they had good non-alcoholic beer for my hubby who doesn't drink. Yummy wine selection too! Great find! We will be back!
There were 4 of us. We all ordered different things: a shellfish pasta, a creamy pasta, a chicken dish and a tomato based pasta. All 4 were very tasty, as evidenced by the clean plates!
It was clearly very popular with the locals as the place was packed when we arrived. We were sort of ignored at first, but then the wait staff realized that and we were given water and drinks.
All in all, I would recommend for solid Italian food.
Tasty, wholesome, well-cooked food, fair prices for SF. Chicken was tender and juicy, flavorful sauce, veg plain but fresh and tasty. Pasta was cooked properly in an excellent meat sauce. Good wine list. Didn't have dessert. Service was perfectly fine, unmemorable (which is how it should be). Good food at a fair price, I'd go again.
Unique little restaurant on the inside. Italian themed and quaint. We both liked. Food, not so much. Ordered the lobster ravioli and fettuccine bolognese with crostini apps plus a bottle of wine. The crostinis were okay, nothing great. Noticed later some kid making them in a toaster oven next to the bar. The lobster ravioli was okay as well. The fettuccine would have been good if we were served when it was made...like last week. A pasty, congealed glob of noodles. Service was very good. Tried a local place and failed, should have went to a top 10. Sorry, can't recommend.
Such a disappointing experience. We came there for our 20 year wedding anniversary. The waitress recommended the lobster ravioli. It was so gross and had no flavor the pasta was hard the sauce tasted like nothing. My husband ordered a steak. Every bite he had to spit out most of it because there were so many tendons and ligaments in the steak he could not even cut it with a knife. $70 wasted. Never again
My wife "found" L'Ottavo during a morning walk and I am now urging her to walk more! It was fabulous.
The setting in the restaurant is a traditional Italian look with murals on the wall, wine bottles around and a very nice cosy atmosphere. By the time we finished dinner the place was about half full and yet the noise level was still quiet...wonderful!
Ordering an appetizer and an entree each, we were in for a double treat for both of us. My Bruschetta was absolutely the best I'd ever eaten. Warm, sour dough bread, sautéed mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and a very light sprinkle of dressing was so good I was tempted to order another (I'm salivating now!!) . Thank goodness I saved room!
Wifey had a salad with a light dressing and flakey parmesan cheese that was as fresh as if they'd picked the lettuce that morning.
Entrees were, salmon and vegetables for her and a Lasagna Bolognese for me. Di would make a Yummy sound every 15 seconds and I was too enthralled with the lightest Lasagne I'd ever eaten. The meat sauce was light and the pasta was able to be easily cut with a gentle down use with the fork. Needless to say, I sopped up the remaining sauce with gusto!
The only sad part of this meal was the fact that this was our last night in San Francisco and we couldn't return...this trip!
