L'Osteria-Condado Ratings and Reviews
If you are looking for an intimate place with great food, this is the place. Food is delicious and changes seasonally. The food variety and creativity is very interesting to us. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and, without asking, they brought the dessert with a candle and gave him a homemade bread that they bake at the restaurant. For us this was a great gift and it meant the world to us. That kind of attention to the customer is not easy to find.
The service took a little while to warm up but once we started chatting it was great. Almost as good as the food, which was absolutely spot-on. The flavours and textures were everything I would hope for from a solid but innovative Italian restaurant. And the wine list - even by the glass - complimented the food perfectly.
If you're looking for authentic Italian food, this is the place. The grilled octopus is a must have. Ordered the specials of ravioli stuffed with short ribs, and the osso buco with Milanese risotto - both were hearty and off the charts. Great service, great food, and although the decor is a bit stark I'd definitely recommend this place. Great for a quiet date night.
We frequent this restaurant whenever visiting Puerto Rico. The menu is similar to what you would find in Italy. Whatever we have ordered has been delicious and has lived up to our expectation. Christian is a wonderful host and chef. He makes us feel like you are visiting family. Don't miss the experience.
This is a piece of Italy in the the middle of El Condado. There are a lot of choices in this turist area of San Juan but , if you are willing to walk a little, you will be rewarded by some of the best Italian food anywhere! The décor is simple and elegant and so is the food. Fresh ingredients impeccably prepared are the centerpiece of this establishment. This is a quiet oasis of gastronomic delight. It is worth the effort. Don't miss it if you are in the vicinity. It is walking distance from San Juan's art museum so, why not make it an afternoon of art and artful Italian cuisine!
The food here was out of this world!! The chef was very nice, but was waiting on the tables and not super attentive because he was kind of short-handed (for example, I waited a long time to be able to ask for a second glass of wine, then a long time for him to actually bring it). However, he was a warm person and cooked absolutely DELICIOUS food!
Whenever we are in Puerto Rico this restaurant is a must. If you close your eyes you would think you are eating in an Italian restaurant somewhere in Italy. The menu is creative and authentic. Christian is attentive (as is his wait staff) and committed to you having an enjoyable meal. Make sure you visit this wonderful restaurant.
this restaurant was chosen for a first date that I was going on... I was looking for great food and a romantic atmosphere.. it totally fit the criteria.. we had a great table off to the side were we could talk and enjoy getting to know one another. The atmosphere was perfect! It was romantic and classy comfortable but not stuffy.. the food was very good and the service also. They do a nice job!
A good friend who is a foodie told me about this off the beaten path gem. I am thrilled that we listened. Chef Christian is Italian and takes great pride in everything he does, all from scratch including the hand made pasta, all locally sourced ingredients he shops for daily, personally. The grilled octopus was incredibly tender, delicate and delicious. The scallops with real truffle shavings were wonderful. The branzino was impossibly moist and flavorful, deboned and served at the table by the chef. A wonderful experience for my wife and I. And he has a great wine list that is truly reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
1. This is consistently the best restaurant we eat at in Puerto Rico. If in NYC, the chef, Cristian, would easily have a Michelin star - he's that good.
2. The wine list is radical and at AMAZING values.
3. The restaurant isn't in a hotel, but is on a quiet little street, which gives it a very lovely, homey feel.
As expected the evenings dinner menu was presented verbally. I didn't expect the number of choices and complexity of each dish, so I think this was charming but problematic because it was impossible to remember all the options for three courses. That said, we focused on what triggered our interest and asked questions, which the staff were happy to oblige. The wine list was confusing because there were no obvious choices - whites by the glass for example did not include savignon blanc, Pinot Grigio or Chardonnay so our table struggled with what wines by the glass were appropriate. Pretty stressful since we were with a couple on vacation that we hadn't dined with before. I use the term stressful in context. The food, however, was delicious. We opted for a simple salad to share (which they didn't mention until asked about salad options) and then the whole fish (Mediterranean sea bass) which was served table side for two. Really outstanding. Our co-diners opted for the eggplant pasta dish, which she loved, and the single order of the same fish which was devoured so I guess he liked it. No price disclosure, though the bill was reasonable considering the cocktails and wine, I think it's pretentious to assume people don't want to know the cost of what they are ordering. I would go back but I hope the restaurant takes my criticisms to heart.
