Food and service were great as usual. This place is my go to in the SYV
We had a great dinner celebrating my mom’s bday. They had a life guitarist which was awesome. Food was great. Sommelier was awesome and soooo knowledgeable! Great all around experience.
One of my favorite restaurants in all of Santa Barbara County and Los Olivos. Never disappoints. Food and wine are always top knotch and it's just a great overall vibe.
Loved the gnocchi and pizza, wine pairings were delicious and we had a delicious Tawny port to wrap things up! Very happy about that meal.
Our favorite place to go for food and wine in the valley 👍
We eat here at least once a week and brought both sets of parents in for the night before Thanksgiving. The food was excellent as usual. Our server Kelly was disinterested and disengaged. We were really disappointed. Not even a thank you or have a good evening. The worst part came when we got in the car to leave and both sets of parents asked us if that was the normal level of service. We told them we were disappointed as well and the management must not have been in that night.
I’ve been to this restaurant many times and it never disappoints. Their butternut squash soup was a real treat as was the tasting flight of wines from their house brand, Bernát.
Great food great atmosphere friendly service, Great wine.
I have enjoyed this place several times in the past but was a little disappointed
this time. The location and ambiance are perfect. The service is attentive and the server was knowledgeable and made a very good wine suggestion. What was sadly lacking was the food.
We were a table of four and I ordered the trout. It was okay but had little flavor or inspiration.
My friend ordered the butternut squash pasta and was disappointed due little flavor.
The two meat lovers at our table ordered the rib eye and the burger. The rib eye disapppeared quickly but the burger was not finished and this is a guy who can really eat. Just nothing stood out and usually this is not the case. For dessert we tried the French toast bread pudding with four spoons and it too was okay.
Week night, not too crowded. Excellent food as usual. Best food in the area.
Muy recomendable! Es un templo del vino.
This restaurant is a delightful place, particularly for wine drinkers. We had a great table and enjoyed a lovely glass of wine (or two) and a pizza. For some reason, the restaurant appeared to be short-staffed, not sure why. The waitress was terrific, but catch her if you can. We will return.
I live in the neighborhood but don’t eat here often enough. Well I just may have to change that! My friend and I both had their BBQ Brisket sandwich for lunch and it was outstanding!! Delightfully flavored and incredibly juicy and tender. The meat practically jumped out of the sandwich into your mouth!!
I eat here several times a month and have never been disappointed!! The food is always done perfectly and the service is superb! The wine list is exhaustive with emphasis on Santa Ynez Valley and California Central Coast wines!! I highly recommend this restaurant.
Perplexing menu item in the capellini w vegetables. Bizarrely unfit for the menu (whole, pan-sautéed corn kernels? Really?), and not at all good or passable for anything past a kids menu. Fresh pasta is not made/cooked by anyone with artful care or experience in making fresh pasta. “Papperdelle” is not even close to what papperdelle is supposed to look and taste like. It was closer to an over-thick and wide fettuccini, and it was not properly cooked either. Papperdelle is supposed to be near two inches wide, and very thin. Poor technique and execution on every account.
Service was not great either. Appetizer and dinner were served immediately one after the other, before I even had a chance to order my glass of red wine I had talked to the server about doing at the beginning of the meal to enjoy w my entree. Whether this was poor timing by the kitchen or lack of timing/awareness by the server, it made for a rushed and unpleasant dining experience where service had already died down and it was only about 9:30pm. There was no need for the rush.
Really disappointed in this place. I believe judgement should not be so critical in one visit for a restaurant, but for the deficiencies described above i don’t believe a second visit is even worth the money.
Excellent food and a wine menu that is exceptional. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.
I was seated on the bench that lines the wall, with tables that allow for diners in chairs. There was a quiet person next to me on one side and a lovely family on the other side. I was undecided between two different local wines, and the waitress gave me a sip of each to try.
I asked if I could get a dinner salad that used to be on the menu, and, after consultation with the cook, I was able to get that item. It was delicious. I had ordered a cheese appetizer, but perhaps I wasn't clear that I was ordering, as opposed to making an inquiry, so I didn't get it. However, the waitress very kindly brought me a couple of small chunks of the cheese "on the house," so I was able to sample them with my red wine (one of my favorite flavor combinations). She made sure to offer a dessert, and it was excellent, as well. I spent a bit more than I planned, but it was worth it.
After years of wanting to visit, we finally went with another couple. Everything was good, though not great. Except the wine - what a selection! Would probably return when in the area.
Great food, seasonal farm to table, and amazing wine selection to enjoy with friends and family
We had the corn & arugula salad to start and then the lamb shank and the mushroom ravioli, all were fantastic! Chelsea was our server and she did an excellent job of taking care of us!
Was not happy with the greeting and waiter was not pleasant. Felt unwanted. Went because of our anniversary. Didnt enjoy our day.
I love this place and we take clients here a lot. My business is only a 5 minute walk away and we have a wonderful choice of places to eat in Los Olivos
Anytime that we are in the area, we never miss going here for dinner. It is always outstanding!!
Stopped here on the way to Santa Barbara. Food was excellent. We had the Garlic Fettuccine and the s’mores dessert. Great atmosphere. Best food we have had in California.
We have eaten here many times and overall I would say its a great place for lunch with wonderful salads and burgers. But for dinner with friends it is just too darn noisy and you can't hear each other....and there were even empty tables near us.
The food was wonderful but our young server was not friendly. He seemed to be uninterested. We tried to buy wines after dinner to take home, no staff came up to help us till I asked someone.
What a memorable meal and evening! The menu variety meant there was something for everyone but we settled on a risotto ball appetizer, the homemade mushroom ravioli, and a steak caesar salad with a local Pinot Noir from Curran. EVERYTHING was above par (yes even the salad) - we returned the next day for lunch just to have the ravioli again! The wait staff was impressive in their tempo and timing; we did not want to rush through our meal and our waitress quickly understood leaving us to dictate the pace of the meal from start to finish which was unexpected and refreshing. If you have the opportunity to eat at Los Olivios Wine Merchant & Cafe, you will not be disappointed!
I would drive from San Diego for a meal and drive home again (maybe the next day.....)
Among my top favorite CA restaurants.
Fantastic wine selection. Our server was quite attentive and didn’t rush us. Food was delicious... from the appetizers to the entrees (Mushroom Ravioli was divine). You can’t go wrong eating here!
Nice but not as good as the last time I was there. Corn soup delicious tho
Fresh food ingredients, kind server and delicious foods made us to have a good dinner time. Satisfied!
Great lunch in a charming place in the middle of the little town of Los Olivos. There's one main street with a flagpole in the center, lined with small shops and wineries. Lunch was perfect and beautifully prepared and served. Casual, great service.
This is my go to spot when I am in the Santa Ynez Valley area. I have been here for dinner and lunch, and every time I choose to eat here, I am thrilled at me and my companions dishes. Everything is fresh, local, and delish. I have celiac, so it can be hard finding restaurants that cater to the gluten free, but The Wine Merchant Cafe labels everything and after a quick chat with the server, I am always confident that the food is gluten free and delicious. My favorite is the gluten free Mykonos pizza...its a genius take on pizza and I highly recommend it. My Dad ordered the salmon, and as he said " I usually do not eat salmon out, but I trust this place" . It did not disappoint, as we all left full, happy and excited to go back again! Thank you to the latest server we had, Ben. He was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable and we had a great time enjoying the sunset at the end of a beautiful summer day.
The food was delicious and the wine list was exceptional.
Great service, looking forward to our next visit!
Thank you Wine Merchant!
I always love this restaurant, the Cafe Salmon I had was fabulous, my guests all raved about their meals as well. Wonderful place.
Wonderful food, great service and beautiful ambiance.
The staff and service were great and the food was delicious! We love your restaurant.
Good food. Fantastic wine list. Los Olivos Is a cute town only a couple of blocks long with tons of wine tasting rooms, cute shops and a great garden shop, difinately worth a stop as you head north.....
