We just returned from 3 weeks in Italy, our favorite place in the world, and L'orcio is the closest you'll find in this whole area for simple, authentic, and perfect cuisine. Never leave without trying at least 3 different pastas, and always end with the Torta Della Nona....

I have been to L'Orcio last Spring and had a delicious lunch in the garden. Last Fall I had another very good meal indoors. This time, however, it was Restaurant Week, and 4 of us came to enjoy the prix fixe menu. I was much less pleased than during my previous visits. Absolutely cold bread, rather tasteless olive oil, no butter were served first. Our appetizers, hot dishes, arrived almost cold, and mine, in particular, was a real disappointment. Supposed to be snails in a tasty sauce served on toasts points, it was a bland and soggy mess. The roasted veggies appetizer was the best, but again, not really warm. Our main courses were good, although not as special as I had remembered. Desserts were unimpressive. Service was good, but if we return, it will definitely not be during Restaurant Week!

My wife and I decided to dine here for restaurant week in New Haven. We normally avoid these week as in general, as the service and food do not live up to par in the restaurants. This was certainly not the case here. We had the burratta appetizer. A beautiful piece of cheese with a creamy center and for dinner I had the braised pork shoulder. The dish was tender and flavorful. The chef was accommodating in substituting polenta for pasta. My wife had the short rib ravioli. The pairing stuffed with mashed potatoes was phenomenal. Tiramisu for dessert. Service by the young lady upstairs was stellar. Hats off to L Orcio during restaurant week, in keeping the quality of your entrees offered substantially better than those offered at other restaurants. We will be back.

I was seated upstairs on the second floor, which I didn't even know they had. The service was swift and amiable, without being intrusive. Regarding the food, everything was top notch, from the ragu sauce entree, to the vinaigrette on my starter salad. Highly recommended for special occasions or any excuse to splurge on food worth spending on.

Although we have been there before, this time we went as part of New Haven Reataurant Week.
The meal was very good. I had the osso bucco and my husband had the swordfish. Both from the special menu for Restaurant Week.
I had the Mediterranean salad with artichoke hearts and olives for an appetizer. There were three quarter piece artichokes and three olives in the salad.
My husband had the burrata which he enjoyed.
I think my husband got the last piece of swordfish before they ran out. While tasty they should not have served a piece like that.
We chose the tiramisu for dessert. They ran out of that as well. The pana cotto however was delicious. The service was extraordinarily slow. The restaurant was not jammed so the reason for this was not clear. Our waitress actually comped my husband a cappuccino because we had to wait so long.
The prix fixe price for this dinner was $34. That doesn't even include the coffee.
It wasn't worth it.

Superb cuisine. Attentive service and an opportunity to have table conversation with our dining colleagues without having to shout or constantly repeat: "I can't hear you. What was that again?" The upstairs dining space has been treated with tasteful and unobtrusive sound-quieting acoustic panels; I make my living in pro audio and music so I know what I'm talking about and appreciated the owner's attention to this typically overlooked detail in upscale restaurants. As many know, this can be a "buzz killer" for many, otherwise fine restaurants.
I had the Chef's special starter, an unusual combo and presentation of Escargot on toast points in a delicious garlic sauce, then a main course of braised short ribs(beef) ravioli in a delicious mushroom ragout. Not overly sweet Tiramisu wrapped -up a delicious dinner. Portions were sized perfectly. I had a moderately-priced red wine that complemented the meal.
My wife and I will return. A real gem.

The food was EXCELLENT! I had the lemon shrimp salad and the eggplant and goat cheese ravioli for an entrée. Our server was very attentive and willing to make great recommendations (including the wine list). Overall, we had a great time and I wish that this restaurant was nearby me in Massachusetts.

This menu seems to be taken from a 1950's mafia movie, it is a caricature of Italian food...
but if you don't care too much about food, you can have a decent time there.

It was my parents 67th wedding Anniversary and our fifth time at L'Orico The restaurant was perfect for them both. As a starter we had beet salad which was tasty and delicious. Fresh pasta dishes. The veal osso bucco was perfect. The meat had no nerves and no fat. Just like California dinning, restaurant is casual and relaxing. You can dress to the nine or wear jeans and a nice top. Never disappointed with food or service.

We loved our dinner. The Pollo alla Parmigiana was wonderfully fragrant. Pappardelle al Ragú was delicious. Scrumptious house made pasta. The server was friendly knowledgeable and attentive. The low noise level allowed for easy conversation.

We booked L'Orcio after reading positive reviews on Open Table, including the fact that they offered half-price wines.
We found the service attentive but unobtrusive, the food excellent, and the Amarone magnificent. A wonderful birthday meal - well worth the walk from downtown.
Thoroughly recommended.

Our appetizers and drinks were great but unfortunately it went downhill from there. We all ordered the night's special dishes...two different fish dishes - both were overcooked and dry......the one pasta dish was good. We were dining early and the restaurant was not crowded at all...so no reason for the kitchen to have been too busy

Not sure if we would go back...............too bad

I was disappointed. We sat upstairs at at table that was next to a column. It was dark and without a candle on the table. We started with two apps (burrata and grilled octopus). Both were ok. Had to ask our server for bread which I think should have been served to us. Two of us had the veal dishes which were not great. Mine from the menu was loaded with peas and too much cheese. My husbands, which was a special, was with mushrooms and better. My daughter had the chicken lemon with spinach and she enjoyed her meal. Wish I has ordered a pasta dish instead.

My friends and I enjoyed our dining experience and we are definitely making plans to go back. We chose to sit outside on the patio and as the evening darkness fell the outside lanterns were turned on giving the patio a rustic Italian feeling.
The food and the service was fantastic and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others.

Lovely spot! The garden/patio area is such a hidden gem on State Street. L'Orcio is great any night, but $10 pasta Tuesdays is the perfect time to catch up with friends during the work week and not break the bank! The food and atmosphere is amazing.

We loved the outdoor patio. And we loved most of our dinner items but two. The small stuffed clams were too chewy. A better option would have been for the chef to use larger clams, chop the clams, and add them into the clam filling. We were also a bit disappointed with the Creme Brulee which was served cold and did not have the hot, burnt, carmelized topping native to this dessert. But we will visit again and try other menu items.
