So nice to dine in a restaurant where you're not hoarse afterward trying to talk over the noise because of lousy acoustics. The dining area is upstairs, nicely removed from the bar scene, and warmed by a cozy fireplace. Nice menu of eclectic choices, obviously trending toward Italian. I had the mashed potato ravioli with shitake mushroom sauce. And, I'm told their lamb chops are to die for, though I don't do lamb. Great outdoor eating area in warmer weather.
Not as good as usual this time. We were disappointed with our dishes. We will try again in case it was an off night. Hope it's not on a decline. Service was great. That hasn't changed! Still a nice setting to dine. Maybe we ordered the wrong things.
Never disappoints! Everyine’s food was delicious! Cozy!
Great food wonderful service! What more is there to say..............
Relaxing, enjoyable dinner
Outstanding food in a very attractive setting. Outdoor dining in season is a real treat. Have eaten in this restaurant many times over the years and never been disappointed.
Food and service were great! Drinks were a little pricey.
I went with s friend for restaurant week 2018. I chose this restaurant based on the variety and number of entree choices. My friend had gone to the restaurant before and really liked it. We both got the appetizer, grilled shrimp over greens, and it was delicious and a generous size. Our main entrees were rack of lamb and sea bass. They were also very good. Overall We really enjoyed the experience . 4 star
Absolutely delightful! Excellent apps and entree. Can’t wait to return!
We had one of the best meals ever for a restaurant week event. The menu and the food were outstanding. We have been to L'Orcio several times before and always enjoyed our food; however, this meal was one of the very best!! We are looking forward to better weather to be able to eat outside which is a special treat. Many thanks!
We went for restaurant week so the wait for food was a little longer than expected but it was delicious and enjoyable
I've dined at L'Orcio many times, and it is one of if not my #1 favorite Italian Restaurant in New Haven.
The Atmosphere is a structure that clearly was an old House remade into restaurant, and that combined with the layout and cozy mood lighting give it a great feel for either a Romantic Dinner, or feeling like you're having a upscale dinner at home without doing all the work yourself. Noise level I find depends on who else is in there. Some times you could hear a pin drop, but others you do need to speak up. I also like how they have a few rather Large Round tables that are a great feel for when you bring big groups to all sit facing each other! It makes there room to keep everyone on one or two conversations rather than feeling isolated from your friends at the other end.
Also, this is the first time my Vegetarian Girlfriend had eaten here, and she seemed quite happy with her meal. In particular I felt like she had more than one accommodating option even on the Restaurant Week menu, which we don't find everywhere.
Their Cocktails are really nice too if you're not into the wine selection. At one point the used to have a tasting menu of small pours, one to go with each course, but I haven't seen that recently. Kind of hope they bring it back.
It was a bit chilly outside for this time, but I know from other times there that they also have by far one of the nicest Patio's anywhere in New Haven for outdoor dining as well!
We had dinner in honor of my boyfriend's birthday at L'Orcio which I had always heard good things about. Dinner was very nice, cocktails were strong :-). The bread was crusty & abundant. He had the sea bass which was firm & fresh ... I had the asparagus ravoli which was delightful. The Insalata Primavera was lovely.
L'Orcio is one of our favorite restaurants. It is so special for us. We live in Norwalk and we are willing to take a little drive to L'Orcio. Such care and detail goes into each dish. This was our second visit and I continue to be impressed. Thank you for your love of fine Italian food and preparation, thank you for having reasonable prices, including your wine list, thank you for creating a beautiful ambiance in a beautiful townhouse and thank you for training your staff. I'm looking forward to returning this summer so my husband and I can dine on the patio!
All the best :).
We very much enjoyed our first visit to L'Orcio and plan to come back! The gnocchi were like nothing we ever tasted! We also enjoyed the other home made pasta and appetizers ordered along with the best Tirimisu!
This was not our first time visiting L'Orcio. The food is consistently delicious and well prepared.
I had the rack of lamb which was served with brussel sprouts and roasted potatoes. Absolutely delish! My companions had the filet mignon with gorgonzola sauce and the branzino and also cleared their plates. On a previous occasion I have also enjoyed the butternut squash ravioli.
Our server was very attentive, we were not rushed and the prices, I feel, are very reasonable.
What can I say? It's a favorite!
Overall exceptional experience
The food was amazing....we got sat immediately....it was an over all great experience
This was our first visit. Our friends agreed that we will definitely return! The ambiance is very welcoming, with a beautiful bar in the main dining room and a big picture window overlooking a terrace where we look forward to eating this summer. First courses were all delicious: Caesar salad, beet salad, warm perfectly grilled octopus with a delicious green bean/potato salad. Farro salad was creative, although my husband will try something different next time. We enjoyed crusty Italian bread and delicious reasonably priced Cabernet Sauvignon and Nebbiolo reds by the glass. Main courses were generous and tasty: branzino, fabulous lamb chops on a bed of brussel sprouts and perfect grilled potatoes, veal scallopine with mushroom and a full-bodied sauce, and homemade thin, wide noodles with pork osso bucco. We saved room for dessert and brought home enough veal and pasta for next day's lunch. Both the Charlotte dessert and creme brûlée were excellent, big enough to share. The coffee was especially good, just as it should have been. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and it was quiet enough to visit with friends. Well done on all counts!
I have always loved L’Orcio but had not been in awhile. This dining experience was even more perfect than I had ever experienced here. I typically like to go in the summer when one can sit outside in the beautiful seating area. We sat upstairs on this visit which was fine...but I prefer downstairs. The waitstaff was terrific, the homemade noodles were outstanding, and the desserts were great too!
Service was attentive and food was delicious. We will return.
Delicious food - everything from appetizer through dessert - and great service. And quiet enough to enjoy conversation.
Love this place. Great for conversation (quiet), easy parking (rare in NH), very good, classic, straightforward cuisine.
My husband and I had a nice dinner on a Saturday evening. It was quiet and we enjoyed the meal and the service was excellent! We will definitely go again!
Really enjoyed our visit the other night. Would recommend to anyone looking for quality Italian downtown, the portions are perfect and the price is extremely reasonable. On Tuesday nights they have a $10 pasta (homemade) deal, which was a pleasant surprise. I've lived downtown for a few years and this is hands down one of my favorite spots!
This spot never fails to please. Its standard menu is well-conceived, mixing in just the right amount of the unexpected, and is complemented by a delightful rotation of special items... all executed with caring and skill. Nice wine list. Attentive service. Congenial atmosphere. Fair pricing. What more could a diner want?
The food is outstanding! The gnocchi melt in your mouth, the organic amish chicken is superb! I love everything about this restaurant 💗
Both the food and the service were top-notch!, in a very nice space. Definitely will return.
Excellent dinner, great service. Will return. Authentic Italian food, expertly prepared. A very special place.
Never ever disappoints! LOVE IT! XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO
We had a wonderful meal and exemplary service. Our thanks to Chris who was our fantastic server who had perfect timing all night long! He was always there when needed!
Great food, wonderful ambience....a bit on the slower side, but definitely worth it. Food was amazing. Server was very polite and professional. Highly recommend!
Very, very good food. Bartender was very attentive and helpful. Some of the server staff seemed to be new and they were in the weeds even though the place wasn't packed.
Food is always excellent, especially the pastas. Service is polite and efficient with very good advice on wines from Italy.
Excellent service via Alecia. She was lovely helpful and very patient!
Still the best in the New Haven area for simply The best in authentic Italian cuisine ...love a
ALL of the pastas because I've had ALL of Francesco's Pastas...special editions to the already special menu are REALLY REALLY special...simply the best!!!
Delicious food as always-dining room was freezing and they were running a small space heater-would have liked dessert, but too cold.
excellent as always
service was on the mark
A really nice restaurant and absolutely worth a try ... food is always good!
I had a ravioli special with artichokes and leeks. It was much too salty and I couldn't taste the artichokes. My husband felt that his short rib ravioli special was good but not great.
Our server was very nice but service was extremely slow. Our server appeared to have too many tables. We ran out of time to have dessert despite telling our server early on that we had theater tickets. I might come back some time in the summer to sit on the patio.
