Amazing food excellent service always interesting to me how they combine different taste well worth a visit
Reservation was made three weeks prior because this place is so HOT! When we walked in for our reservation we walked right to our table. From start to finish this was a perfect evening, I can't wait to go again! Great service, great food, and amazing atmosphere!
From the moment you walk through the doors your experience has begun. So love the booths and the large booths with pillows that can accommodate a party. The cocktails are delicious, divine and so clever. Their names alone are read worthy. Then you begin to enjoy the appetizers and main courses. They are never anything other than EXTRAORDINARY in every sense. They are so picture perfect you just want to admire it. Dessert doesn’t disappoint. There is NOTHING ON David Shannon’s menu that won’t rock your culinary world. David, I adore you; your beautiful sense of food and it’s presence is without a doubt art in itself. My favorite restaurant on the planet and I’m so lucky and grateful to be dine in your fine establishment.
It was incredible. Service was very intimate and helped us understand the menu. Everything was made with the utmost care and concern. Details were beautiful. Couldn’t have asked for a better birthday dinner. There’s even a stuffed opossum behind the host and it’s amazing.
Our server was probably the best one we have ever had. Can’t recall her name. Very professional and pleasant
The food was amazing, and Shauna (sp) provided great service. It was our first visit, and we want to return. Both the oyster and venison appetizers had layers of flavor. The filet and scallops/ pork belly were divine
Everything is ALWAYS perfect at L’Opossum! The food was magnificent with perfect complex tastes expertly executed. Our server, Erin, knows the dishes like she developed them, and her drink suggestions are bordering on clairvoyance. A must stop on any RVA culinary tour. I just keep coming back, and each time it totally satisfies.
Amazing every time!
I go to L’Opossum as often as I can for life events. My birthday, anniversaries, and my annual celebration of being cancer free. The swank bank is freaking amazing. Dinner menu is awesome. Only complaint is that someone loves ginger in their deserts. My allergy keeps me very limited on the desert end. Other than that I love this place
Wonderful as usual! Excellent chef created and prepared appetizers and fabulous entrees.
A unique and fabulous experience all the way around. Great food, great service and a restaurant with a sense of humor. Would highly recommend!!!
Took my college senior to spoil her before heading back to school. What a fabulous find! We started with the Fabergé Egg Bedazzled with Cavier - delish!!! and whimsical presentation! She had the lobster mac and cheese teeming with luscious lobster - enough for 2 people! I had the crab cakes which were divine! Of course, we finished with the Flambé petite more au Chocolate for dessert...fiery fabulousness and the perfect size to finish off a very rich and wonderful meal. Will definitely return. The decor is eclectic, a little naughty and cozy, but perfect neighborhood gem in Oregon Hill. The menu descriptions are full of whimsy! Will definitely return. Thank you L'O!
Best restaurant in richmond...ALWAYS fabulous!
L'Opossum is a fun place to eat and has outstanding food. The waitstaff is very knowledgeable and friendly. It is on my "go to" list anytime I can get a reservation.
Extraordinary. End of story. Since we first ate at L’Opposum three or four years ago, our favorite restaurant.
Our second visit; Erin was our server both times. Great evening. Will hurry back for sure.
Absolutely fantastic. David and his staff area amazing. Will is a great asset!
Dinner at L'Opossum is always a wonderful experience. Delicious and creative dishes with great service in a fun and unique environment.
My favorite restaurant in Richmond. The food and cocktails are creative and superbly done. The service does not get any better and the decor is always entertaining. A perfect date night!
magical and extraordinary!
brilliant cuisine imaginatively presented, best in town
really Richmond. quirky ambiance, you think there no more surprises but there are.
Awesome and creative food. Great cocktails! Nice atmosphere. Can’t say enough good things. Love this place!
Food and service always wonderful! We wish it was easier to make a reservation we would come more often
Great atmosphere, food, and service. The menu is a delightful and entertaining read.
Our appetizers of lobster bisque soup and a salad were excellent, but my salmon with phyllo entrée was extremely salty and heavy with the dough. My husband’s scallops and pork were also very salty and the pork was tough. Our desserts and chocolate cake and pears were awesome though. The service was amazing. The tables were also very close together and there were two loud parties on either side of my husband and I. I thought it was good but I would not return.
We loved this place and look forward to a return trip. We had the swank plank and beef swellington entrees, lobster bisque and onion-fig gratine for appetizers. Death by Chocolate and Chocolate Bottom desserts. OUTSTANDING!
Went for a quiet birthday dinner as a couple away from the kiddos. It’s hard for us to get a night away and I plan to never go anywhere else. Everything about L’Opposum is so perfectly RVA it hurts. The server was attentive but not overly visible. The ambiance was quirky and trendy but also comfortable and made us instantly feel at home. For less that $150 we had cocktails, an appetizer, wine, entrees, coffee and dessert. All were served to perfection and brought out at the perfect time. This restaurant is absolutely worth the hype. I cannot think of a more authentic Richmond experience. The best date night in the city hands down.
Always exceeds our expectations!
A very creative menu with exotic descriptions but the food just didn't live up to the hype. The restaurant is tucked away in a historic neighborhood with only on-street parking so be prepared for some difficulties. The interior is very interesting and the service was excellent but overall, it always boils down to the food -- just not what I expected given all of the glowing magazine/newspaper write-ups.
The food is amazing and the atmosphere is dim and quaint.
Our server, Mark, was great he was super knowledgeable about the menu and helpful. Food was really good and the ambiance was unique.
Great service and food. We will return. Out of town guests were very impressed with food and service as well. Food is very creative so be prepared for something very different.
You simply can't beat the food here. Staff and Chef are amazing.
We waited months for a reservation, then it was rescheduled due to renovations-we were offered free desserts due to inconvenience and that was nice. However, we eat all around Richmond and agreed the food was ok-we loved the vegan dip appetizer, however there was really only one token vegetarian entree option and our daughter is vegetarian-the option contained mushrooms which she hates which was disappointing. The lobster mac and cheese was nothing special except for the lobster meat which was plentiful. The crab cakes were good but not exceptional. After reading it was named in Southern Living as best restaurant in the south and waiting months for reservations, our expectations were likely very high and the food didn't live up to them. The ambiance and staff were lovely.
As always a great experience from the cheeky descriptions to the outstanding food.
Our new favorite! From the time you walk through the door to the every last bite EVERYTHING is beyond any reasonable expectation. A true gem!
Delicious food, great service, creative menu
This is simply the best restaurant in Richmond and one of the best restaurants I have eaten at anywhere in the world!
As soon as we walked thru the front door we were met with great aromas of well prepared food. The food is eclectic and the naming and descriptions on the menu were quirky. Be prepared for dozens of statues of David. The one at the front door has a stuffed opposum on its shoulder.
The food and beverages were exquisite. Whenever I see sweetbreads on the menu I order them.
The restaurant is a remodeled shotgun house, so it is long, narrow and a bit tighter than cozy. The small floor plan and that it is rated the best restaurant in Richmond make reservations fill several months in advance.
Go, but you have to plan ahead.
I would return in a heartbeat for a date night.
Amazing food and service
