Our appetizers of lobster bisque soup and a salad were excellent, but my salmon with phyllo entrée was extremely salty and heavy with the dough. My husband’s scallops and pork were also very salty and the pork was tough. Our desserts and chocolate cake and pears were awesome though. The service was amazing. The tables were also very close together and there were two loud parties on either side of my husband and I. I thought it was good but I would not return.

We loved this place and look forward to a return trip. We had the swank plank and beef swellington entrees, lobster bisque and onion-fig gratine for appetizers. Death by Chocolate and Chocolate Bottom desserts. OUTSTANDING!

Went for a quiet birthday dinner as a couple away from the kiddos. It’s hard for us to get a night away and I plan to never go anywhere else. Everything about L’Opposum is so perfectly RVA it hurts. The server was attentive but not overly visible. The ambiance was quirky and trendy but also comfortable and made us instantly feel at home. For less that $150 we had cocktails, an appetizer, wine, entrees, coffee and dessert. All were served to perfection and brought out at the perfect time. This restaurant is absolutely worth the hype. I cannot think of a more authentic Richmond experience. The best date night in the city hands down.

A very creative menu with exotic descriptions but the food just didn't live up to the hype. The restaurant is tucked away in a historic neighborhood with only on-street parking so be prepared for some difficulties. The interior is very interesting and the service was excellent but overall, it always boils down to the food -- just not what I expected given all of the glowing magazine/newspaper write-ups.

We waited months for a reservation, then it was rescheduled due to renovations-we were offered free desserts due to inconvenience and that was nice. However, we eat all around Richmond and agreed the food was ok-we loved the vegan dip appetizer, however there was really only one token vegetarian entree option and our daughter is vegetarian-the option contained mushrooms which she hates which was disappointing. The lobster mac and cheese was nothing special except for the lobster meat which was plentiful. The crab cakes were good but not exceptional. After reading it was named in Southern Living as best restaurant in the south and waiting months for reservations, our expectations were likely very high and the food didn't live up to them. The ambiance and staff were lovely.

As soon as we walked thru the front door we were met with great aromas of well prepared food. The food is eclectic and the naming and descriptions on the menu were quirky. Be prepared for dozens of statues of David. The one at the front door has a stuffed opposum on its shoulder.

The food and beverages were exquisite. Whenever I see sweetbreads on the menu I order them.

The restaurant is a remodeled shotgun house, so it is long, narrow and a bit tighter than cozy. The small floor plan and that it is rated the best restaurant in Richmond make reservations fill several months in advance.

Go, but you have to plan ahead.

I would return in a heartbeat for a date night.

I've been dying to eat at L'Opossum and I finally made it down to Richmond to try it. I brought 5 of my closest friends with me and we all loved it. We will definitely be back! The service was casual yet extremely knowledgeable. Food was timely, yet not rushed. We ordered most of the appetizers on the menu and they were all amazing. Entrees were delicious, too. The decor is fabulous. If I lived closer, I'd be there all the time.

THE best restaurant in Richmond. The cocktails and food items are always unique and forward thinking in the ingredients and combinations. And of course the names all demand a slight giggle.
The service, decor and music selection...all add to the experience.
Dressy casual/business casual for dress choice.

Meal and drinks were very good, but I have had better meals here before. The lobster bisque special was so-so, partially because there were no lobster chunks (it had been pureed?) Drink special was excellent, as was the escargot. The steak was very good but there are better options on the menu.

Best restaurant consistently! Faberge egg, halibut, bundt cake were highlights but everyone loved each course plus the cocktails! I had the beef tenderloin in the past and loved it but wanted to try something different and I wasn’t disappointed.

We always have a lovely time at L' Opossum. This time we had a booth that felt so private and cozy. We started our adventure with the Faberge egg appetizer. It is such a special little dish. Each of our party of four thoroughly enjoyed our entrees and the desserts were fabulous. Our only drawback was that the time between appetizers and entrees was dragging on too long. Our wait for the desserts was longer than comfortable. Overall, it was a very nice dinner out for my husband's birthday.

As always, the L'Opossum experience continues to satisfy. The staff is excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable and the food is exquisite. A creative menu coupled with a hard devotion to service: what more could one ask of a provider?

There is quite a bit of hype surrounding L’Opossum and I’m happy to report the meal more than lived up to expectations. Our table shared appetizers of Faberge Egg, slices of venison, and the escargot with ham biscuit. They were all good but the escargot was fabulous! All of the entrees ordered were very good as well but the winner of the night was the pork belly and scallops. The drunken pirate desert was also scrumptious. I would give more than 5 stars if I could!

Great ambiance, eclectic style. Waited 2 months to get a reservation. They even sat us early, very accommodating. Food options were plentiful and discriptions were fun to read. The food presentation was exceptional. We had the special appetizer, filet mignon, crab cakes, and chocolate patte with Bicardi 151. I have to say, however, the vegetables were heavily salted. My wife and I were chugging the water throughout the night and my wife couldn’t get her rings off by the end of the night. Overall, great experience and would go again, I would just suggest lighter on the salt.

The food was amazing. We started with the scallop appetizer and it was delish! The scallops were done perfectly and combining them with butternut squash and the presentation made for an elegant start to our dinner.
We had an attentive server who answered questions and offered suggestions and thoughts.

The restaurant is quite a surprise in that it is so different from an unimpressive exterior. The food is excellent and the service from our server was also excellent. Wine prices are reasonable and the food offerings are also reasonable. It is physically on the small size so it takes a while to get reservations, but well worth the wait.
The "Beef Swellington" was delicious but certainly not Beef Wellington, so beware. Try the Halibut. Deserts are wonderful but would have liked to have some vanilla ice cream for my simple tastes.
Parking may be problematic although we were able to park on the street right next to the restaurant and no one broke into our car!

Outstanding in every respect. I had the lobster Mac n cheese w asparagus which was great and my wife loved the crab cakes. Service was impeccable and the atmosphere was very cordial . I understand after my first visit how the restaurant earned the high accolades from media such as Southern Living. Well worth a trip to Oregon Hill.
