Lopez Restaurante y Cantina Ratings and Reviews
The orders were not correct. The chimichangas tasted like paper. The waitress was not attentive. The floor was very dirty. They did not have Corona Light (in a Mexican Restaurant) nor did they have any Queso dip for the chips. We were looking for an authentic meal, which is what the restaurant says they offer. Unfortunately, all 6 of us were disappointed.
Stepped in for a quick bite, it was about to close and therefore empty. The waitress was friendly and attentive even though she was going about her closing routine. The bean dip and house made chips were soooo good! The guacamole was decent, nothing "Michoacán" about it as the menu states, and the Cubita cocktail was refreshing. The tacos were average. In all the meal was ok.
Well we certainly did not need a reservation because there were no other customers there when we arrived at 5:30 yesterday. The service was maybe a little disinterested
But fine. The food took a while to prepare, which is a good thing in an empty resto, and it's the reason you'll come back (or not) and we would.
Tried this place with a Groupon deal. For the price the food and margarita were good. The service was poor. Ordered a dish I wouldn't usually have just to try the "hand made" corn tortilla's, never received them! If you could get ahold of a waitress it took quite a while before she came back with whatever you requested. Husband was specific about no guacamole cause of allergy and there it was, on his plate!
Went to Lopez Restaurant as an alternative to the crowds along Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf. Restaurant is in a nice area. Dining area is open without much decoration or ambiance. Service was decently quick and our server was very friendly. Food was very good, Mexican fare. Beans are vegetarian and everything was seasoned well. Excellent meal for a reasonable price.
We went looking for a restaurant that could accommodate our group of 10 on Christmas Eve a bit late in the game. We are an eclectic group, so I figured a Mexican restaurant would be good. I was envisioning something like an El Torito or something. We walked in to a very quiet restaurant with just one guy at a table in the restaurant watching tv and another couple in a booth. We sat down and the waitress was very accommodating. Service was excellent, but the vibe was strange. The lighting in the restaurant was awkward. After we placed our order, the guy who had been sitting watching tv and the couple in the booth both got up and went into the kitchen and made the food. It felt a bit weird. Food was okay, but nothing exceptional.
Lopez is a great place for lunch or dinner. You will be greeted at the door. Your server will take her time answering your questions. The food is fantastic with family recipes!
The seating is average, with a Mexican flavor.
Servings are plentiful, you will not go away hungry. I you like Mexican food, give it a try.
We found Lopez Restaurante y Cantina on a visit to Monterey last April. We returned again and enjoyed a pleasant meal. I recommend the Camerone’s Mojo for anyone who like shrimp with garlic. Janet provided attentive service. It is not near Cannery Row, but worth the effort to get there. You will not be disappointed!
Larger than life portions, food was seasoned well, service was impeccable and with a smile; Just ask for Jacky daughter of owner. Very hospitable great recommendations with menu selections for myself and girlfriend. We couldn't ask for more next time we vacation in Monterey again Lopez's will certainly be high on our to go list.
Lopez's was an extreme disappointment. Even with a reservation we had to wait for a table, primarily because we were at the host station at least five minutes before our presence was acknowledged. Even though the restaurant was only half full, the service was extremely slow and the wait staff seemed overwhelmed. We were hoping the food would make up for the service, but were again disappointed. The enchiladas and tamales were mediocre at best, the mole sauce was barely edible, and the beans were runny. My family will not be returning to this place.
Lopez Restaurante y Cantina is off the beaten path in Monterey. It is the best Mexican food I have had in some time. I recommend the Camerones Rojo and A La Diabla Camerones which were perfectly seasoned along with garlic, peppers, and onions. Our server, Jackie recommended both dishes to us. She deserves kudos for the recommendations and for her cheerful attentive service.
You may not travel to Monterey to get Mexican food but you should! This small family run place has great food and service. Try the Chicken Mole, one of the best I've ever had. It's off the beaten path as well which makes it a great find for those looking for something different.
Every one of our group of 14 remarked about the great food - dishes were served at one time, presentation was outstanding and wait staff very friendly and helpful. Kitchen output was impressive given the small space and 2+ chefs - there was a delay in serving the dinner which is understandable give the size of our group. A full bar service bridged the gap.
I highly recommend this restaurant!
We were traveling and hunted for Mexican. We found this place and while weren't sure about it on the way in, it turned out to be very good. The service was especially good, and everyone liked everything but for one dish. All in all,a nice surprise. I would go thee often if I lived nearby.
It is not often you find a Mexican restaurant in a neighborhood that serves other than the typical stuff. But Lopez Restaurante y Cantina is one of those exceptions. We were looking for something quick but good on a late Sunday and followed a suggestion from Around Us and verified vy Open Table.
Menu selection was good. The food was really tasty and well prepared. Tamales and tacos were well above average to the point where we sent off recommendations to several friends who visit the area frequently.
Strong recommendation for this neighbor hood (not too far from downtown) restaurant..
We were in the mood for Mexican food while driving home one evening and found Lopez Restaurante y Cantina on Open Book. We decided to try it. We were immediately greeted and seated by a friendly gentlemen and asked what we would like to drink. The menu had a great deal of variety and family favorites. My chile relleno was the best I have ever had and the red sauce on my enchilada was delicious. We will definitely return and tell our friends.
OK Mexican food, but nothing to write home about. The hostess was clueless about OpenTable, so the reservation was pointless. Fortunately, they had room for us. The dining room was dark and windowless; the fajitas ordered by a large group smoked up the whole room: there was poor air circulation. The server was friendly.
