After not visiting Lons for several years, I have been there 5 times in a month. The setting is so charming and the food choices have been tasty. Again, James the waiter now greets me and makes me feel like a "regular" and makes the occasion so much fun. It is fun bringing new and old friends to see this grand place.
Absolutely loved it, the Halibut, the service was slow, but it didn't matter, because the company was awesome.
What a beautiful garden setting! The food, service and ambiance were wonderful.
Lon's is a wonderful dining experience. Ask for an outside table and you will love the ambiance unique to this restaurant. We will definitely return.
Food, service and environment were near perfection. Rib eye was perfect med-rare, pecan flavor well balanced to the meat, service attentive but not over-bearing and allowed us to manage our experience. The outdoor setting is a gem, loved the kettle fire cooking the fresh ham for Sunday's brunch, the aromatics from the open fire cooking this beautiful leg of pork was mouthwatering.
Food was not up to the typical standard for this restaurant. Everything else was great. They were busy.
Sat on the patio - 2 acoustic guitars, beuatiful nite, lovely grounds, fountain. great setting for a spring evening dinner!
Lon's is a great restaurant! I would recommend it hightly to anyone who enjoys fine dining.
Food was very good, but not great for the price. Felt it lacked some of the creativity of other places we've been in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. We enjoyed the atmosphere and service was attentive. Very romantic, yet casual setting.
Great as always. Some things never change.
Lon's is a wonderful place. I've been twice in the last month and found the service very friendly and attentive, the quality of the food high with prices to match; wine list is similarly complete but expensive.
Beautiful setting and experience
I was in Phoenix for business, traveling alone, and based on the reviews decided to go to Lon's for dinner. I wanted a nice outdoor seating environment. While I enjoyed my dining experience, there were several factors that prevented Lon's from being a five-star dinner in my book.
If you are traveling on business, or eating with work colleagues, I would not recommend Lon's. On the night that I ate there, it appeared to be predominately patronized by retirees. It was a leisurely crowd, as opposed to a more urban, more serious crowd. This is not to say that the customers were not enjoying their meals, but if you are a business traveler in a suit or eating alone, you would definitely feel out of place at Lon's amongst those 60-and-70-so
Dining service (waiter and sommelier were excellent) were excellent. Bar service and hostess srvice were wanting. Food was very good.
Lunch menu is better than the dinner menu..lunch was wonderful but dinner food was disappointing.
Beyond OUTSTANDING evening with service extradorinaire! PLUS, the cowboy music at just the right level made it a magical evening! Thanks again to our FAVORITE LON's
Thank you for your warm hospitality. Everything was great!
The setting is just lovely but the food while good was limited in choice. The service was slow and unschooled. It did not do the setting justice. Not a place I would return to except to see the lovely setting both inside and out.
It's a great place for those special occasions! Great food. If weather is cooperating, sit outside! When we were there, there was music on a Sat. evening and with all the trees, 95 degrees didn't seem so bad!
We had a wonderful evening and meal. The service was outstanding and is one of finest places to have a meal in Arizona.
Went there for our 20th anniversary and very much enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
Food was not prepared as ordered. When sent back (all four dinners), each dinner was returned, but not identified. Three of us had the same entree - did not get our own plate returned. Since they did not identify each person's plate when returned to the kitchen, they should have started over.
Asked for outside table only one table outside taken when arrived. They said have to request 3 days in advance for outside. Meal was inside then when leaving saw some outside tables still open and not used during our entire meal.
Loved the ambiance. Lots of careful attention to detail.
First time at the restaurant. Food was very good but the location of our table on the patio was inferior. Pollen from the tree located directly above our table was continually blowing onto our food, in our water and wine glasses, all over the table top and in our laps. It was a nuisance. Our table seemed to be the only one on the patio with this extreme amount of tree pollen and should be removed. Tree pollen caused us to lower our rating of the dining experience.
The best outdoor dining experience in the Valley.
Need to work on the wine list, I picked three bottles before I found one they had. I was almost ready to ask why don't you tell me what you do have and I'll pick one. Otherwise great time ask to sit outside when you reserve.
The experience overall was lovely. The waiter recommended a perfect Spanish white wine, great for sipping out on that beautiful patio. My club sandwich was yummy, but my husband's burger arrived well cooked when he had ordered medium-rare. A second burger arrived shortly thereafter, and it was actually undercooked. After driving 20 minutes home, I thought it was a long drive for a club sandwich and a burger, but again we went to enjoy the patio. Did I mention the wine was perfect?
Outstanding/beautiful setting on the patio. Food was fantastic. Alligator juniper smoldering added to the great ambiance.
Had not been to Lon's for quite some time. We remembered the food as being much better and was a bit disapointed with what we were served. We certainly will return and give the food another chance.
We had not been to Lon's in years and had loved it in the past. The courtyard was always a special dining treat. They gave me such a hard time about requesting the courtyard that I almost decided not to go to Lon's. When we finally did get there, they were not even that busy. The service was okay. I ordered my steak medium well and I am not sure it every made it out of the refrigerator to the grill. Then the manager made me feel like I was the criminal! Very pretentious. Two dining companions raved about their fish. Will never go back and would not recommend. The courtyard used to be open and beautiful. It is jam packed with tables. Most of which were empty by 8 pm.
I always love coming to Lon's--I love the ambiance. It isn't ear splitting noisy like so many restaurants.
Only one of the 8 ladies attending the lunch was happy with the food itself. The senior staff representative knew that our pastrami sandwiches (recommended) were not edible (90% fat)...but still we were charged full price for all the meals. Not good PR., We all decided not to return to Lon's in the future...and not recommend this restaurant to family and friends.
Beautiful, flower-ridden patio for outdoor dining. We had brunch, and looked like there was live music but he was packing up when we got there for our brunch reservation at 1:30 pm on Sunday. Excellent, artistic food. Service was SLOOOOWWWWWW. We were pretty hungry by 1:30, but took 20 minutes to get a waiter to come take our order, despite asking another waiter who agreed to submit our drink order for us, but we needed to wait on our assigned waiter (who we hadn't met yet) to actually bring us the drinks that the other waiter serving the table next door submitted for us.
Absolutely memorable! Thank you.
Lon's was fantastic. A unique place with a special feel.
EXCEPTIONAL FOOD AND DELIGHTFUL SETTING.
PERFECT FOR A ROMANTIC EVENING OR A SPECIAL OCCASSION FOR A GROUP.
An exceptional place to dine and feel cared for!
Always one of the finest dining experience in AZ. A few minor glitches in service, which is normally exceptional- fell short
The menu was fixed for Easter dinner. The first course was a disaster all the way around. The cold pea soup with crab was an unappetizing shade of green that lacked a main ingredient...crab! Cold green soup with no flavor and no crab; bad way to start the dinner. Another option on the fixed menu was a salad with a strange chocolate vinaigrette dressing. The waiter seemed to agree that the chef's attempt to mix savory and sweet missed the mark. The main courses arrived; the fish and short ribs were okay, nothing out of the ordinary. For the high price, and disappointing first courses, we expected out of the ordinary. We held out hope that maybe the dessert would be spectacular, but sadly not the case. Will not be returning to Lons.
