Lon's at The Hermosa Ratings and Reviews
I am a food snob, increased by my living in the Monterey/Carmel area the last 7 years. Lon's is some of the best food I've ever had! Period! Plus, the service from front to table was incredible. Good sommelier too. I've eaten at many fine places throughout the world, this place lands in my top 5...Yowazza!!!!
This s our favorite Scottsdale restaurant that we have enjoyed for over 5 years. While the gardens and facilities have been updated, the food has suffered. My chicken was overdone and lacking any sauce. My husband's fish was bland and overcooked. We will still go back for the ambiance with high hopes of better food.
So I would like to give Lon’s a 5 star rating but for one thing - they had to try three times to cook a filet to medium doneness. The first time they brought it out it was raw inside, the second medium rare(very red) and then finally the third go was acceptable. By then though 5 of the 6 people in our party were done eating. Needless to say it was disappointing.
The rest of us did enjoy our meals and the waiter was attentive and sitting outside was enjoyable especially with the fire in the fireplace near our table.
First off the hostess was AMAZING. As was the assistant to the server. And the pork chop was one of the best I’ve ever had.
The server and remainder of our food on the other hand left little to be desired and I would NOT RETURN because of those two items. You just can’t mess up service and food in this day and age.
Our server was clearly put off by serving two gay men or multi racial men. Couldn’t tell. He was unattentive to any of our needs compared to me observing his involvement at other tables close to us. An example, I asked for pepper and salt. It took him over 7 minutes to bring to us and stopped and laughed and chit chatted at another table on the way. Meanwhile, our very bland and over cooked risotto was getting cold. When our food was delivered we asked for more corn muffins. Halfway through our meal I asked again. Server said they were cooking. When they arrived about 5
minutes later they were cold as ice. Clearly had not been baking. So why would our server lie. He never offered or came to refill waters or hot tea. The assistant generously fillled our waters after we asked for them.
It was a FIRST date. I asked for a fireplace setting romantic and quiet. We did not get this. I would not return and am very disappointed. We are both foodies and love eating out. We have so many amazing choices In the valley. This is not one of them.
This was our second dinner during a very short stay in Phoenix. Had another wonderful evening. Both times the entire staff was very welcoming and knowledgeable, and service was efficient but not rushed. Several excellent menu choices, including a tasting menu which we did not have but is well priced. The open air garden patio with its fountain and fireplaces is a beautiful setting with a warm, inviting ambience. We hope to make this one of our favorite spots when in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area.
What an extraordinary experience! The patio on an autumn evening at Lon's at the Hermosa Inn is spacious and beautiful. The service was excellent, and the food was outstanding. My book club was celebrating our 24th anniversary of reading together, and we couldn't have picked a more perfect spot. It was quiet and therefore very easy to talk together. It was a perfect spot for a special evening.
We ordered 4 dishes
- salmon was a 7/10 just OK
- bison - the grilled half was excellent (the other half was just fair)
- the sea bass was fishy
- the duck was OK 7/10 but the veggies with it were 10/10
- the best dish of the night was mushroom tempura
We've been to Lon's a number of times, particularly for special occasions. The outdoor dining is some of the best in the valley, especially at sundown or after. The wine list is extensive and diverse with many Arizona wines. It was my wife's birthday and upon checking in the staff wished her a happy birthday and presented her with a birthday card signed by the staff. They are genuinely glad you came to Lon's. The food, as always was excellent. We both had the filet mignon. Lon's is one of Phoenix's iconic restaurants with a history and don't forget the Hermosa Inn part. The prices are comparable to other upscale restaurants and not exorbitant. This is the place you want to go for happy hour and a great place to take friends visiting from outside Arizona, especially in the non-summer months. We highly recommend it.
One of our favorites! My wife and I come to Scottsdale about every year or so for a business meeting, and we ALWAYS sneak out to Lon’s (the first time was upon the recommendation of the staff at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort). We love the atmosphere outside, the service has always been superb, the menu is unique an very well planned. The new Happy Hour seems fantastic, and my recent experience with the bartender was top notch and very much appreciated... he helped me recreate a cocktail from a list of ingredients that were scrawled on a paper I photographed and kept on my phone....! It was great fun.
We have been dining at Lon’s for years, every time we visit Scottsdale. The food is always fantastic, the service impeccable and the grounds are gorgeous. Dining on the patio is a special treat. Our waiter, Richard, was superb. We always look forward to a special evening Lon’s!
This is our second time to Lon's and it was even better than the first time and I didn't know that was possible. The service was outstanding we received great wine recommendations and some very creative menu items to choose from. The ambiance is amazing---one of my favorite places.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Lon's. The staff left us a card signed by their team. Our dessert had "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate sauce. I had mentioned our anniversary on Open Table and they actually paid attention and responded with something special! It was much appreciated! The food was outstanding with imaginative presentation (Ahi served with a red hot Himalayan salt block to "sear yourself").
