Longhi's Ala Moana - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
It's a bummer that we finally ate there for dinner and then found out the next day they had closed permanently. Good thing we went. The food was really good. We all loved our food. Yes it was a little warm and no view but we'll try the one at Ko'olina & see if it'll be the same food with a better atmosphere.
Very sad to discover that the wonderful jalapeño and cheese bread that we usually open with is no longer offered. And most disappointing is that our lovely peaceful view is gone as well. Instead of a beautiful ocean sunset we have the interior of a massive construction site. Fewer people in the restaurant so it is much quieter.
But the food our meals and drinks were excellent but the spiciness of the mussels surprised me.
I have eaten at this restaurant many times and unfortunately it has taken a DRASTIC turn for the worst. I predict that it will either be closed or bought out by someone within 6 months. What used to be a restaurant with a beautiful view, great food and reasonable pricing has turned into food that is double the price, looking at a parking garage, and wait staff that doesn't know the new menu. I will NEVER go here again...I am sad to say. This will become the future of many places with a view, if air rights aren't imposed sooner or later here in Hawai'i. If you want to pay the high price of food, I'd recommend taking the plunge and just going to Morton's...which this place really can't compete with.
My husband enjoyed the drug and turf. It's hard to find steamed Maine lobster and he said this one was very good. He plans to return and get the 3# Maine lobster next time. Just steamed. It wasn't on the menu but is on their website menu and our server said it can be ordered. I had the chicken piccata over angel hair. Very good. Had to order angel hair as a separate side dish. If I had just the chicken, it would have been a sad lonely entree as nothing else comes with the one large chicken breast, so I'm glad I ordered the pasta. Their Belgian endive with gorgonzola cheese appetizer is excellent! Topped with caramel Mac nuts and honey-scallion mint vinaigrette. I could have three of these for a main entree. So good! No room for desserts this time. We'll return to try other dishes and the Belgian endive of course!
Major disappointment. I have eaten there many times before and was always very good. This time the food was terrible and the service was worst. Lobster was way over cooked, the crab stuffing had no crab. I mentioned it to the waiter and he just acknowledge I was not the first person to complain, but did nothing about it. The resturant has lost its great view due to construction but that's no reason to throw in the towel on everything else.
It's a shame to see that they're building condos right in front of this restaurant blocking the ocean view and the lovely breeze that used to be here. It has definitely affected the restaurant in a negative way. There were only about five tables of customers there at 11:30 AM during what should be prime time Sunday brunch. I'm happy that Longhi's opened a second location at Ko olina and will give the restaurant a try. I will definitely not be back to this location though. 😢
Was surprised that the view of the beach is no longer seen due to another building going up. Parking was horrendous as beach goers continue to park using the mall. After the fireworks was done everyone tried to leave all at once creating a grid lock for serveral hours with cars honking their horns the time when we where trying to have our dinner. It's not the restaurants fault but Ala Moana should be doing something about this.
Always understaffed during breakfast hours, often taking more than 30 minutes to get a cup of coffee or water refills. Longhi's simply need to add more servers and cooks to provide more dining experiences for locals...it's a few times already this year that I have experienced extremely slow food and berate service!
As always, food was good but overpriced, $50 for breakfast for two. If I had remembered about the noisy construction and no view any longer, we would have gone somewhere else. Longhi's was always too expensive for every day meals, but now we won't be going at all.
I can't really rate the restaurant. I made my reservation on Open Table, called the restaurant to say our Lyft driver was having trouble finding it and we'd be 15 min late. Got to the restaurant and they would not send down the elevator to admit us, because they had CLOSED for the night before I'd even made my reservation, and told me that the Open Table reservation should not have gone through.
service was bad, food was inconsistent and it was embarrassing to take my family there for my birthday and the experience was just mediocre..nothing like past meals we've had there. will not be going back or recommending to anyone. the waitress forgot to come back with drinks, my mother's food was half the size of my brother in law but they ordered the same thing, the kitchen forgot to cook the meal as requested by my sister and for my birthday cake they just put a piece of pie down and said enjoy. After we ordered coffee it took forever to even get a refill and the one person who asked for a refill it never came. We had a party of 6 and it was just a horrible experience.
What once was a beautiful view of Ala Moana Beach, is now an ugly parking structure completely blocking any view. Although the food was okay, it was extremely overpriced for what you received. When you order a sandwich, that is all you received (at almost the same price as a pasta plate). No fries or side with the sandwich. The others at the table had rather small portions and left hungry. They did say that it was good, just not enough of it.
I was very excited to eat at Longhi's for the very first time. And to celebrate Father's Day with my boyfriend. Food took over 45 minutes to arrive, and was cold when we got it. We just ate and left because we didn't want to waste any more time than we already had.
Will not ever return unfortunately.
We celebrated my friend's Birthday at Longhi's because that's where she wanted to go. I made our reservations through Open Table as usual and also noted with the reservation that we were celebrating a Birthday. The service was so bad and the food was mediocre. I never had to ask a waiter to remove the plates from the table before. We had to constantly flag him down for things he should have handled automatically. This was my first and LAST time I'll ever go to Longhi's. I was always under the impression that this was an upscale restaurant and it was a rude awakening.
We've eaten there often and have never been disappointed with the food or the service. The food and service is still excellent, the only draw back now is that they've lost their amazing view. Don't know if they're going to lose business because of that but we'll still keep going there.
They had a This restaurant on Maui and that was the first time I went there and for breakfast I got the lobster eggs Benedict it was absolutely fabulous I highly recommend the lobster Benedict It seems a little pricey but when you receive it you won't be disappointed i've eaten there also for dinner twice dinner seems a little too pricey and the portion size is a little small for what you're paying so I would definitely stick to the breakfast there
We enjoyed our lunch on Sunday. We were seated promptly, the server was very good and our food was very tasty. Our disappointment was in how run down it looks. We understand the view is gone and that is no fault of the restaurant but the fans had not been cleaned in awhile and the furniture just looks beat up. Perhaps the construction is some of the cause but if you are going to continue to operate and charge the prices (of which we have no complaint) you do then hire extra cleaning help, etc.
Hubby and I went for brunch on a Saturday. It was a beautiful day, we had a gorgeous view (even with the construction that is happening right in front of the restaurant) and the food and service were excellent as always. Hubby enjoyed his eggs Benedict and I had the strawberry bowl, a papaya and fried potatoes. Strawberries were fresh and mostly sweet, which is hard to find in Hawaii (most strawberries here are tart). The eggs Benedict are served over Longhi's toasted baguette, which is nice and tasty variation on the dish. We love Longhi's and enjoy having a meal there once every couple of months.
My husband, infant daughter, and I 'add reservations for 6:45 on a Friday night. We were sat soon as we got there (maybe 2 minutes late), so at least the hostesses were friendly. The manager (maybe) came and asked if we wanted drinks, about 10 minutes later we got our drinks. About 15 more minutes passed and no sign of the waiter, manager, or anyone who helped us. With about 25 minutes in at this restaurant and with a hungry baby and no sign of the waiter, we decided to get the check and leave. About that time the waiter came. Well, we paid for the drinks and left. Hungry and incredibly disappointed. We won't be going back.
Sorry but the view is totally gone and two of our guests ordered salmon and that was 86 so they order the opakapaka. Two of us ordered pasta that was really hard and difficult to eat. When it came to desserts, we ordered key 2 lime pies and the waiter could only offer one. Although our desserts were complimentary, it was not a good experience as compared to prior dinners there. It was a pretty bad experience for my guests from the mainland.
Went for Mothers Day dinner but was very dissapointed. Waiter was not professional and put his hand on the back of my chair twice - in my personal space. Forgot my wifes order and pointed at her while confirming the wrong meal. Food decent but nothing to brag about and over priced. Last the wonderful view of park and ocean gone! Building luxury apartments for super rich foreigners. No longer on my list of must do testaurants. PS. Better half said squishy seating.
It has been 8 years since I dined at Longhi, it was during a sunset dinner, the ambiance was great. Had a great evening with friends, overlooking the ocean.
I chose this for a special occassion, Mother's Day, I was disappointed to find our view was the condo construction. Food was okay, but overpriced. The staff and our server were great. Presentation was lacking; i.e. serving fruit in a plastic cup.
They took away the view, served fruit in plastic cups and then upped the prices almost 30% for Mother's Day. What a disappointment. Not much they can do about the view, I get it, but you don't increase your prices when you have a lousy view, you try to make up for it. Benedict was ok. No where near worth $30 each. They could have actually spent some time dipping the bread in eggs for French toast (so dry). And if I am paying $30 an entree could you at least serve my fruit in a glass bowl, not a plastic cup (ghetto). Used to be my go to for special occasion brunches. Not going back.
One of the greatest aspects of Longhi's in the past was the exquisite view of the ocean. With the expansion of Ala Moana Shopping Center, their view is completely gone, allowing one to stare only at another building. Our food was good, but was not real hot. The staff was very attentive, refilling our coffee routinely.
It was Mother's Day, so they had a special menu, limiting our choices to more expensive items, which did not allow us some of our favorites.
I would consider this restaurant for a larger group in the future, but only for locals who have limited interest in the view. Parking was abundant.
They made us leave 1.5 hours after we got seated...we appreciated the 25$ gift card in return for doing this but I would've appreciated a heads up in advance because we were celebrating Mother's Day I would've rather dined somewhere else where they would've given us more time to eat....
Sadly, not only is the view disappearing, but also the customer service. Arrived 15 minutes early to a restaurant mostly empty. The hostess asked us to wait at the bar since we were so early, which is fine. Had a mimosa and watched basketball with my family. After the first mimosa, the bartender asked if we would like another. I explained that we would wait until we were seated. After 20 minutes or more, the bartender asked us our reservation name and then checked the screen at the front. Finally, the hostess seated us. The rest of the experience followed suit. Too bad since this was our "go-to" for Lobster Benedict (not as generous, same price), and mimosas. Most likely our last visit.
