Longfellows Restaurant & Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Great food and ambiance!
love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish – one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."
Great place. We really enjoy the ambiance. We sat by the fireplace and it made it toasty on a cold evening. The food is great and the service was very good, but not quite as good as the last time we visited. I highly recommend Longfellow's for a romantic dinner for two.
This was a Birthday dinner date for my husbands 32nd birthday.
We walked in and the fire smell instant caught out attention and we were able to sit right next to the fire which was very nice. We enjoy camping and sitting by fire. The waiter Kenan was very friendly and attentive to our needs. My husband ordered a blue steak and i ordered the rosemary steak on the special list. Mine was rare and I think it was delicious. However My husbands steak which he ordered as medium came our too charred to the point the ouster layer was crunch with the black burnt spots. He refused to send it back and scrapped it off and ate some of mine. Maybe it was the glazing on it? I'm don't know. But over all it was a nice atmosphere and we enjoyed the place, the fire, the waiter and everything else. He even offered a dessert to celebrate his birthday but we declined because we were full and not much of a dessert couple. We will return again sometime soon.
We had not been to Longfellows in quite some time and forgot how great that place is. We had a wonderful time...great atmosphere, greta service and the food was out of this world. Longfellows is definitely a hidden gem in Saratoga. We will definitely make sure that we get there more often.
Special trip up to Saratoga, and we wanted an excellent meal and service, you delivered in spades! Our server Nick, was very attentive and quick with drink and meal suggestions. We lingered as long as we could, thanks for making our dining experience special!
What a disaster!!!
As a "thank you" my wife and I wanted to take friends out to a nice dinner. The choice of restaurants could not have been worse.
Upon entering the table we were shown to had flies all over it, and we were moved to a different table. Then entire downstairs was very cold as the heat had just been turned on.
The food was fair, pre-prepared from Sysco or a similar company.
This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had.
My husband and I come here frequently on our wedding anniversary. The food and the service is always stellar! I love the special attention we are given when they know we are celebrating our anniversary, they certainly make it special. You never feel rushed, everything is timed perfectly. I would highly recommend Longfellows to anyone looking for an excellent meal and amazing ambiance.
My husband and I have been to Longfellows on a few dinner dates. The food is great, however, sitting downstairs is not very cozy for a party of two and it's a bit noisy. Upstairs has a better ambiance. In the past we have ordered the barn stuffed mushrooms and they are usually delicious but this time they were not very warm and tasted different. I ordered a filet served on top of a crab cake and my husband ordered his usual prime rib. Both entries were delicious. Although this isn't a quiet, super romantic restaurant, it has a lovely rustic feel and overall good food.
Our dinner was for an anniversary and hoped for a nice romantic dinner. Unfortunately there was a wedding reception in an adjacent room that was open to our dining area so every dance song and DJ one-liner was intruding on our conversation.
Host and wait staff were fantastic.
Dinner was good but when our meals arrived it was obvious why the surf and turf was priced so modestly at about $35. The lobster tail was very small. I'd gladly pay more for a larger tail.
Overall it was ok but not what I hoped for on a special occasion.
The quality of the food ranged from very good to excellent. The server knew the items on the menu very well and gave good descriptions of both the food and the cocktails we ordered. the overall experience was excellent and would consider returning for another fine evening.
The meals are good home cooking style dishes, nothing outstanding but solid and the prices are extremely fair so you can feel comfortable taking out an entire family. BUT make sure you call in advance to ensure there is not a special occasion or wedding that night. On our night there was a wedding with live music so it was rather difficult to talk at dinner. Also, make sure you ask for a table upstairs, we were in the basement part and while cozy is not as nice as the upstairs parts. Service was very attentive and fast.
They greeted us with a "Happy Anniversary," which was nice. We were seated downstairs by ourselves for most of the evening. The decor was unique and cozy. The French Onion soup was the best I have ever tasted! My husband and I both ordered the prime rib and thought it was delicious! I had the rice as my side and he had the mashed potatoes. I thought the rice was delicious as were the vegetables (carrots, zucchini, and yellow squash). He said they were too heavy handed with the garlic on the mashed potatoes. For drinks I ordered the strawberry Bellini and he ordered the Malbec wine. Both were great choices. Then, the waiter brought us an anniversary dessert: chocolate moose. It was tremendous, light but full of flavor; the perfect way to end our special meal! Towards the end the upstairs got loud above us and you could hear every step and creak on the old wooden staircase and floors. Josh was a great waiter. The lady who seated us came back to see how we were enjoying our meal. We couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate our anniversary. It was our favorite meal of the trip!
We've been going here for years and we celebrate our wedding anniversary and Valentine's every year here and the last 2 times it's been terrible. The food wasn't good at all I asked for medium steak I got extremely well done steak, my husband got the fish and tons of bones where in the salmon which shocked us. Calamari was soggy and gross tasting. Sadly this is no longer our spot it's sad to see a place like this that's been around for years slowly go downhill.
Longfellows is a tradition in Saratoga. Best for prime rib and steaks. Chopped blue cheese wedge salad with steak tornadoes very good. Clam chowder (unloaded) gets high marks. Pasta dishes bland and over complicated which leads to too many ingredients competing in an unappetizing dish (seafood sauté, shrimp scampi). Service was attentive.
Something happened at this restaurant that should not have happened at all. When prime rib is cooked it is cooked as a roast and when customers order "prime rib" a rib is cut off and served. My husband was served a prime rib that an angry pit bull could not have chewed. The chef that cut this piece could not have had an easy time cutting it. Why it was ever served was beyond me. So what might have been a nice dinner for two was completely ruined because one of us had a dinner that could not even be cut let alone chewed. The chef when he cut the rib should have thrown it in the garbage and had the waitress retake the order. There was no excuse for this.
On a Sunday night our party of 7 and 1 well behaved child loved this delicious and reasonably priced restaurant. We'd been out to many places through the years of coming to the races and somehow missed this one.
The starter salads were very generous and delicious. The soups and crab cakes were gobbled up! Some of the dinners included: salmon, filet, fish and chips and a pasta kid's meal. All were thoroughly enjoyed.
We will make this a priority on our next visit.
Outrageously loud... asked to be moved to quieter location
But they could not accommodate. We were unable to hear each at a small table of 4.
Waiter tried... but place was busy and we did not have adequate attention.
Every aspect of dinner was horrible. Everything appeared to have been purchased at a local grocery in their freezer department ....some of which was barely warmed before serving. Everything was greasy and fried. Four appetizers , soups, salad and main course.... all inedible.
If you are looking for ambiance, service and decent food.
Don't stop at this restaurant.
We always go to Longfellows at least once whenever we go to Saratoga. The food is very good and service was excellent. The menu has sufficient variety that there is something for everyone. We are going again in a couple of weeks and already have our reservation!
