Chef Tim Love’s flagship restaurant, Lonesome Dove Western Bistro first opened in 2000, in Fort Worth’s Historic Stockyards District, and quickly became the city’s premiere dining establishment. The food was pretty fun and enjoyable although a few items came out cold for some strange reason. The biggest opportunity was the service. For a high end restaurant you would expect a better server experience including filling water when it is empty, taking away dirty plates instead of leaving them there to the side (even after they came to ask for dessert), and at least offering to explain all the food options vs just pushing the steaks) . We also asked for two hush puppies but they brought out 4. We told the person who gave it to us that we only ordered four and they said that it was our lucky day, but when the bill came they charged for four. Oh well. Disappointed but would love to give them another shot. The other servers seemed more on point.

Our party of 6 had a wonderful experience with Wilson serving us. The food was delicious, notable items include the elk and chili. Beautiful view from patio. The biggest standout was Wilson. Great big personality and supreme kindness.

We have been several times and the food is always amazing. Food was amazing as always and our waiter was top notch.

This time around we sat near the outdoor patio area and the noise level was so loud I felt like I was yelling to have a conversation. Definitely wasn’t great for a date or any kinda romantic situation, felt like I was at a college bar on game day.

We had our wedding reception there in 2016 and we go back for our anniversary dinner every year. The elk sausage sliders are amazing and the steaks melt in your mouth. Our favorite place!

My state that originally came out was horrible it took them 25 minutes to redo my steak and by then my husband had already finished his whole meal so I took it to go. I get home cut into the steak try it it’s worse than the first one so my dog got a $50 fillet. In the future I’d rather eat at outback them to eat at this place.

From the moment we walked in the door, the service was attentive but not obtrusive. We were having an anniversary dinner, and we loved the ambience and the opportunity to have a quiet gourmet meal. Every item we tried had amazing flavor and presentation. A perfect place for a special dinner.

So after a less than stellar experience with the wait staff last November James Bolet, the general manager at the time, reached out to me due to a review I posted on Open Table.
He apologized and encouraged me to call him. Unfortunately, we had a death in the family and then the COVID crap hit. So fast forward to last weekend when we ventured out to the Stockyards and Lonesome Dove once more. I called Mr. Bolet who actually recalled my review (nearly a year later) and although he was no longer the general manager and was in DC, called the wait staff he still knew there and told them about our negative experience.
After we were seated the new GM apologized for our last visit and comped us some champagne and three tasty appetizers each- the elk slider, the kangaroo nacho and the Hamachi tostada. This was awesome as it allowed us to sample some of the other appetizers which I never do because the elk sliders are so friggin' good. I got the Blue Point oysters and my bride got the crab enchilada (huge). Travis and Chris took excellent care of us. I got my usual 16 oz Buffalo ribeye and milady got the redfish en papillote. That paired with a bottle of Perrier Jouet makes for a perfect repast.
The next day Mr. Bolet texted me to make sure they took of us! A true customer service professional. A shout out to him and the wait staff for going above and beyond.

The food is incredibly good and the drinks are also outstanding. We have been here several times and just happened to have a subpar waiter this time. In the past they asked us if it was a special occasion and if it was they gave us a free desert. The last 2 times we came and they asked if it was a special occasion but didn't bring a desert. Maybe they don't do that any more. The prices are such that we can only go here once or twice a year.

Seated at a table adjacent to a crowded bar with folks standing adjacent to a low wall overlooking our table and a glaring lack of social distancing. Cocktails were great and the food was disappointing this visit.

Was a little disappointed in the food based on cost. Trout was the smallest two pieces I had ever seen and the cabbage was so hard couldn’t cut into it and the fried spinach was so greasy. My husbands chicken fried steak the batter was too salty.

Best part of the Lonesome Dove experience was the courteous, efficient wait staff who knew their menu.
From their, the restaurant over charged for food that was poorly executed on.
Wagyu tomahawk ribeye was murdered with cracked pepper, as were the prawns. With all the caked on seasonings scraped off, I was able to get a hint of the superb beef flavor. The $145 entree was ridiculously over valued given the magnitude of its disappointment. The rabbit-rattlesnake sausage appetizers were a joke at $15, a $5 for mouthful.
I am aware that the Stockyards are a tourist trap. However, the Lonesome Dove's close proximity to the trap doesn't magically confer it an ambience that makes up for the lackluster food touted as fine dining.

I took my wife to Lonesome Dove Western Bistro for her birthday. I had the rabbit and rattlesnake sausage for the first course , it was delicious, prepared perfectly, Second course was Texas Red Chili this too was total satisfaction, It was so tasty and delicious, and for the third course I had the garlic stuffed tenderloin, honestly I don’t even know why they brought me a knife . That steak was so tender , and cooked perfectly to a medium rare that it melted in my mouth . My wife had for the first course the Blue corn Lobster Hushpuppies she Loved them , Her second course she had the grilled okra , corn and tomato salad , she loved how light, fresh and delicious it was . And for her third course she had the Steelhead trout , she Loved everything about it . And for desert the server Joe brought us the Ancho Chili Cake w/Ice Cream . He even put a candle on my wife’s and told her Happy Birthday . Decadent, Delicious , just amazing . Joe is an Excellent, Excellent, Excellent Server !!! We love this place and will definitely be back . We woke up this morning talking about our experience. Chef Love definitely has a great bistro in Fort Worth , and my Wife and I highly recommend it and the Server Joe .

Food was great but service left a lot to be desired for a restaurant of this caliber. We felt rushed every step of the way. Our reservation was at 730 so we were not a late reservation. Despite this the waiter was clearing dinner plates while my wife was still eating. We then ordered dessert and before the dessert eve arrived at the table he brought the check. It was 9 pm. I have not felt so rushed or pressured to get out. Very disappointing and experience.

Overall great experience!!! Only nit I had was our server failed to decant a bottle of 2014 Gaja Barbaresco. I had to ask it be done. For a $350 bottle of wine like this, that should be done automatically. Everything else about the service was fantastic. This is a special occasion place $ wise. Very expensive .. but that’s a Tim Love standard

The server wasn’t very kind. He said the entire table had to order off the restaurant week menu and he acted like we were being cheap. Secondly, he took our drink order and then came to table and asked for our order and we hadn’t even gotten our first drink yet. We felt rushed. Lastly, we ordered chili to go and he didn’t put it in the bag and we didn’t check until we got home. The food was excellent but the service was poor.

The chicken fried steak was so-so. Maybe we had built this up so much in our mind. We were really looking forward to our visit. Food wasn’t terrible, but it definitely was not worth the price. Disappointed in our visit.
