The prix fix was a good deal with good choices . The steak was perfect
The food is always good at this restaurant. We are mourning its upcoming closure. The service was slower than normal the evening we dined.
I've enjoyed coming here for both lunch and dinner. Good lamb, good desserts. A good setting for business meals.
Our experience at L'Olivier was not a good one. We arrived to find a very loud party being held in the main room and were therefore taken to a back room. The room we were taken did not look at all like the rest of the restaurant and instead looked more like a storage space that was converted to restaurant space. The server was pleasant enough but looked flustered trying to cope with our party in this room and the big party in the main room. The music from the party was extremely loud and drowned out everything in the room whenever the door separating the two rooms was opened. I would have appreciated if the restaurant had let me know that this party was happening, I might have changed my reservation. Because we were in the back room it seemed as though we were often forgotten. We had to wait a long time to order our entrees after ordering our appetizers and at times even had to serve ourselves our own water. When the entrees did arrive, the flavor was good but the temperature was off with most dishes in the tepid to cold range, not hot as they should be. Finally I had instructed the server as soon as we arrived to make sure he charged my card only, as some of our friends sometimes try to pay for the bill. He did not follow my instructions and instead split the bill in two. This was for a birthday dinner for my friend and I really felt like I let him down with the experience. I would not recommend L'Olivier nor would I ever return.
Fantastic service and great food! Our all-time favorite restaurant.
Best secret for quiet business lunch in FS district. Good food value and service consistently
Went there for Valentine's Day. We were seated promptly and then began the waiting. Our server never came to acknowledge us. 4 couples came after us, got seated and received their food and complimentary champagne. Someone brought water and bread after 10mins of waiting. It was 25mins since we sat down and still no one came to take our order. We told one of the buss boy that we ready to order and waiting for another 5mins when no-one came, we got up and left. Told the hostess on our way what happened. Never going back to this place. Ruined a special night :-(
Our server was very unfriendly, rude and when a plate was ordered he didn't tell us it was not available until we asked where our food was and he said "we don't have it" walks away and didn't ask us to order something different, so some guests had no food at all & to make it worse one person had to take an order to go because their food never came out. Half the table was served while the other half had no food for longer than 30 min and the place was empty, why did we wait so long for food ? We were very, very disappointed in the service, the quality of the food and the whole experience.
IT IS A WONDERFUL PLACE! QUIET ENOUGH TO HAVE A CONVERSATION, PROBABLY EXPLAINS THE OLDER CLIENTELE AT LEAST WHEN WE WERE THERE.
GOOD FOOD, REASONABLE PRICES
Service was less effective than usual. Perhaps it was the fault of being seated in "the back room" while the main dining room was being set-up for NY's Eve. Still, our server was unsure whether he was waiting on our table or the one near-by, The veg. were excellent as were the muscles, the bread etc.
Had Christmas evening dinner special. It was outstanding!
We had a good Christmas dinner for a large party. The food was quite good and the service fine. Much too noisy!
Please open the curtains which shield the interior from the arcade on Davis Court. With the curtains closed, the interior of the restaurant had a closed-in feeling.
I have recommended this restaurant to friends and family. I had their excellent price fix Thanksgiving dinner. It was perfect , so I invited my sister-in-law to L'Olivier for lunch. She had a salmon pasta dish and I had the filet mignon. She told me that it was the best salmon she had ever had. My filet mignon was also superb. The staff was very accommodating. We had a great time and I will come again.
The problem with family's these days. is that if you want to have a holiday meal together, going to a restaurant is not is as it was. The restaurants open on holidays have to hire temporary staff and put enough tables in to accommodate the extra reservations, therefore, the quality of service suffers, even if the food is good.
A wonderful place for traditional Thanksgiving dinner away from home.
Old-fangled French food at a reasonable cost, and the spacious room is quite nice. A salmon three-ways appetizer was quite good, as was baked Brie, but the lamb, while ample, was tough. Convenient to the Eureka Theater and they give playgoers a glass of wine.
I have been going to this restaurant for several years before the productions at the 42nd Moon. I have always had great service and the food has been excellent. This was not the case last Wednesday night. The waiter who obviously was new was not familiar with the items on the menu and some of the policies. In other words, he was not ready to be alone on the floor. We arrived on time at 5:30 and I told the waiter, Alex, that we needed to be out of there at 6:45 p.m. in order to make the 7:00 curtain. He assured me there was no problem. Within minutes our order was taken. There was one other table there when we arrived. I finally was served my entrée at 6:30. I hastily ate it and left at 6:55 and I saw down as the lights dimmed at the theater. I was not pleased. He never returned to the table to ask if everything was all right and we had to flag him down for more butter and refill on drinks. I would have called the manager over but there was not time. I could not enjoy my food as I had to eat so fast. The extra potatoes were not done and were hard. The shrimp was overcooked and the pasta which was incorrectly identified had no flavor. Would have sent it back had the waiter ever come back to our table. I will not be back again nor can I recommend this to any of my friends.
Good food and very good service. Nice place. Highly recommended.
Surprising to find a fabulous French restaurant a little off the beaten path. Worth the extra two block walk from the heart of the Financial District. I've enjoyed the Prix Fixe menu here for lunch and dinner was just as good!
Francisco is a very professional bonus to l'Olivier with attention to detail and who knows good service. Nice quiet ambience, consistent good dining options and ideal for private banquet rooms.
Great service and food was delicious! Next time we'll try the prix fix menu.
The decor is sad and the wine "list" is laughable, but if you can get over those two things, the food was really decent and the service was good. Our desert wasn't amazing, so stick with the main courses and order a cocktail from the bar instead of wine and you should have a better experience than the decor might suggest.
It's authentic in the sense that if you believe the stereotype of bad service in France it is on par.
We had a large business group in a private room. The waiter only came when someone got up from their table and called them over.
The food was great. The price point was fantastic for the financial district.
It was quiet which makes it great for business/ talking in large or small groups.
Wonderful food and service, charming and warm atmosphere. A real find.
Excellent food, small but balanced wine list by glass. QUIET! Hidden between financial district + Embarcadero. Easy walk from Market St BART. Knowledgeable servers. Our two entrees were scallop risotto and ring of prawns surrounding pasta + veggies. Got the strawberry "soup" dessert custom made w/out sugar but enjoyed the lime sorbet "island".
this was my first but NOT my last dinner @L'Olivier - I loved the food, the service and the ambiance.....BRAVO to Chef and staff!
It was a litle to quiet, we where the only one there on a Monday evening. Will come again but maybe on a Friday or Saturday.
This place has great food but it's like a ghost town. I agree that I came late for dinner but only because we could not get seated at another very busy restaurant. There was only one other diner in the restaurant when we arrived. The décor could use an update to attract a bigger crowd.
They forgot to serve our appetizer. It took over thirty minutes for a below-average chicken caesar salad, although there were only three other tables w/customers. They compd a glass of wine for lack of service, but could not makeup for a very dissapointing meal.
Will not return, do not recommend.
Food is consistently good here. I had the largest scallops I have ever had before that came with delicious risotto. The restaurant also provides a free glass of house wine if you are going to see a 42nd Street Moon production that night. The food is very reasonably priced and none of my friends have ever had a negative comment about the quality of the food.
Come early to arrive before the lunch rush. What a lovely time. Great food and a great attentive Staff.
Our theater group goes there before the 42nd Moon productions at the Eureka theater. Francisco is always great about getting us out for the curtain. Great place to have dinner . Good food too.
L'Olivier has always been an exceptional restaurant with excellent service, ambience, and food. Being located near the financial district in San Francisco, they are also a tremendous value for the experience you receive. L'Olivier is truly one of the best restaurants that I have attended.
Good quity at far price. Aleays surprises me that they dont have a busier lunch crowd being so close tp.financial district
Great for a quiet dinner. Food was traditional French and well prepared.
Offering personal comments is quite rare for me and usually unfavorable. Happily though, I'm quite pleased to extend only the finest compliments on this occasion. From the moment my party arrived, your staff embraced us with great warmth and genuine care, exhibiting an almost innate ability to predict and attend to our every need. L'Olivier offers nothing short of old-world charm, sophistication and class when so many of its contemporaries are falling short. Please accept our sincerest thanks for a positively memorable dining experience. Salutations!!

Simple, tasty, reasonably priced
The food was wonderful, but the service was spotty. The waitstaff was young and it appeared inexperienced. There did not appear to be a bartender and it was quite a wait for our drinks. Parking was very difficult.
The ambiance is wonderful and the food was spectacular. It's such a lovely place, but I fear they are not going to make it if they don't improve on the service and maybe add valet parking.
Place is ok need to be up a bit
Service is not that good
