Lola - Great Neck Ratings and Reviews
Dinner with a friend on Thursday evening at Lola, on Middle Neck Road in Great Neck – her first time there, my second. I’m looking forward to my third, and fourth, and….
When we arrived for our 6:30 p.m. reservation on a Thursday evening, the room was mostly empty, with only two other tables and only two bar seats taken. That changed toward 8 p.m., when I noticed that the place had mostly filled up. Note to self: There’s nothing wrong with an early-ish dinner on a weekday (if I start touting the manifold benefits of blue-plate specials, however, you are invited to reprimand me).
We ordered a bottle of Lecea Tempranillo Crianza 2014 Rioja from the very short list (only 6 red wines offered by the glass or bottle – see attached drinks menu photo). It was OK, inexpensive, and paled in comparison to the quality of the food to come.
Service was knowledgeable and attentive throughout – our waitress knew her stuff, and the busboy cleared plates and filled water glasses timely. It’s very nice when things run like a well-oiled machine.
We decided to forego main courses, and instead shared 3 of the Mezze offerings and 3 of the small plates, which was more than enough food (yes, there was a doggie bag). We had: a squash off-menu special with tzatziki, baba ganoush (eggplant), and roasted cauliflower salad – each was delicious, especially the latter two. The baba ganoush in particular was one of the best I’ve ever had, and trust me, I’ve had plenty! We also shared charred octopus, lamb malawach, and mujadara (see attached food menu photo for descriptions). The dishes’ conceptions were creative, the preparations well-executed, and the results very satisfying. We loitered till well past 9 p.m. and were not rushed out. Lola is not only a high quality establishment, but also a great value. And both street parking and the municipal lot around the corner are free after 6 p.m.!
It was an amazing adventure to Great Neck to an amazing restaurant called Lola the food was incredible The Taste the flavors the presentation the ambiance and everybody that work there were fantastic it is a must for anyone in that area you're so lucky to have them and it is where you want to eat! Chef Lenny Messina is incredible his flavors in all his dishes ......amazing!
This is been one of my favorite LI restaurants for a very long time. When it changed chefs from Chef Michael to Chef Lenny I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Chef Michael was fantastic tapas. Chef Lenny is incredible Mediterranean. It's a feast. Each item that comes to the table is delicious. The service is fabulous. Everyone that we bring here loves it. Every time I come I look forward to the creations of Chef Lenny and the friendly staff.
We went during LI Winter Restaurant Week and had the best experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, the food was delicious (try the assortment of mezes as an appetizer, the duck as a main course and the halavah parfait for dessert!) and the service was top-notch (Shelby, the Hostess was delightful and Arthur, our waiter was wonderful!) We would and will go back in a heart-beat!
It was good but. The apps were much better than the entrees for restaurant week. No choice for appetizers they just serve hummus, baba, yogurt, beet spreads and falafel balls with pita. That was all delicious. Entrees very ok. And the place is pretty dirty. Not the tables but the walls and light fixtures, artwork all covered in dust. Not at all appetizing.
If you love Mediterranean dishes, then you will LOVE Lola. I am a huge fan of Mediterranean cuisine, so Lola did not disappoint. I loved getting the mezze style, and the drinks and wine weren't too shabby either. We were there as a group of 6 and it was fun. They honored our request for a booth in the corner, which was also very nice. The service is friendly, but not overbearing. The dishes are so fresh and authentic. It was great. The only issue? Street parking in Great Neck - though that night we were fine.
The is the first time I can not leave a great review. I ordered the Salmon meatballs and they were to greasy for my taste. But it was the service that was off. Looks like may be a new staff . My 2nd cocktail came when I was almost done with dinner, took a while for my water glass to be refilled.
Met longtime friends for a catch-up dinner in a neutral location on the Thursday night of Christmas week. I was intrigued by the menu and noted the many positive reviews. I now get to add one of my own. The restaurant has a cozy feel and the waitstaff was excellent. Not rushing us, but being there when we needed them. The menu is eclectic and everything we ordered was delicious. The Charred Spanish Octopus appetizer was amazing as was the Baba Ganoush and the house specialty Malawach. Mains were all chicken dishes and were terrific even for lunch the next day. The tally was a very reasonable $65 per person with a few glasses of wine.
All in all, I am very happy with this find and will definitely be going back to try the rest of the menu.
The food is just delicious and we loved everything we ordered with the exception of one thing. My husband ordered his salmon medium and it was delivered to him overcooked. He let the server know and they took it back and re-made the dish. The next time around it was so undercooked you could call it raw. It was a thick piece of fish, in fact, I'd call it an overly generous serving but the chef was not able to cook it correctly. The owner (?) or manager did not remove it from the bill but he did buy us dessert. My husband is put off but the rest of the dishes were just too good not to return.
Delicious Mediterranean restaurant LOVED the food..Favorite date night place. I ate at Lola's for the first time, this past Saturday evening. The food was excellent. The service was great. My husband and I loved everything we ordered you need to savor the food. Because it was tapas we had the good fortune to try many different dishes, it was all fantastic. The staff was really nice and attentive. You can see the chef and owner took pride in their food choices. It was really great to see chef coming out to each table greet his guests and made sure they were happy with his food and service.. amazing... I look forward to going again. I highly recommend Lola's.
We love the menu and talk about what we'll order on our way to Lola. Tonight, when we arrived, we decided to ask about the specials. Lucky we did. The lobster bisque and combo tuna/salmon poke were delicious!! The salmon entree with pesto was as delicious as ever. What a great meal.
The best restaurant on Long Island. Fabulous, innovative food, great service and hospitality and fantastic owners Michael Ginor and Lenny Messina jr who are also the Chefs.
We had friends drive 2 hours from south jersey, just to eat dinner here for the second time.
Lola's menu is full of inventive healthy options. Their mostly Middle Eastern menu includes creative salads, fish and meats. The servicewas attentive. Noise level was a bit much for serious conversation, bit we would go back. Good restaurants in Great Neck are becoming scarce.
Great meal and service. All dishes were delicious. Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, octopus and salmon were all perfection
Will go w more people next time so we can order more of their delicious food
Always try their specials
The jerusalem artichoke soup was fantastic
