Lola - Great Neck Ratings and Reviews
After reading many great reviews about LOLA we decided to try it for our anniversary. On a Tuesday evening, the restaurant was moderately crowded. Our server Stephanie was very attentive. I enjoyed the organic chicken, very moist. My husband loved the duck over spinach. Of course the brussel sprouts were amazing, the hummus very creamy. If I had to voice one negative it would be the cappuccino. The size of the cup was 4 sips. Totally not worth the price. That being said, we would gladly return for another occasion.
Bottom line: yes, I'd go back even though it is not conveniently located for me. Young servers are knowledgeable and very pleasant. Small plates are not that small and several can make a meal. Baba ganoush, hummus w/warm pita, crispy Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower are delicious. Chicken schnitzel was excellent (but how about trying it with panko crumbs or how about pork or veal schnitzel?). Branzino was nicely prepared, but plate looked bare with not a single other thing on it (some vegetable, even a lettuce leaf for color?). Crispy lamb small plate was merely a lamb burger on a toasted pita cut in 4--ok but not exciting. The halvah parfait was not exactly a parfait but it was unusual and absolutely delicious.
We celebrated Mother's Day 2017 at Lola's and the experience was fantastic. The food, service & atmosphere was perfect. My 6 year old boy wanted chicken nuggets and fries, and even though it was very busy, and they had a fixed menu for the holiday, they accommodated us. My son said the nuggets and fries were the best he ever had---LOL! We shared the duck, salmon and chicken dishes, all 3 were excellent.
Great restaurant week dinner. Appetizer mezze was enough food to be a meal. Fried sunflower root --amazing! Would have liked a salad as a choice. Chicken schwarma was delish but odd to have indian spice at a mediterranean restaurant. Salmon was also very good. Cobbler dessert was more like a soup than a cobbler but didnt go there for the dessert anyway. Will definitely be back when its not restaurant week.
A wonderful Sunday evening dinner after the movies. We ordered three spreads and shared them. One better than the other. I had the branzino which was moist and so flavorful. I could have made a meal out of the lentils with their warm pita bread. Everything we ate was so tasty. The only thing we didn't realize and was disappointed is that on the Long Island Restaurant Week menu both parties have to participate. First time we encountered such a stipulation. However Lola's with its delicious food, congenial professional staff, and contemporary ambiance is still on our MUST FREQUENT list.
Very generous first course portions of traditional middle Eastern appetizers. Most, I thought
we're too salty ( and I like salty dishes!). The main dish, duck, was fine, and was well constructed. Again, the serving was very generous. We had a lovely Spanish Rose which was
reasonably priced at 32 dollars the bottle. All in all, an enjoyable evening... Go lighter on the salt, and we will return. Our visit was part of Prix Fix restaurant week, 2017.
The second time was better than the first. Nice selection of wines by the glass. Our appetizers of grilled cauliflower salad and 2 types of hummus with pita were all great. All of us loved our entrees of branzino, chicken, duck and schnitzel. What made our experience so wonderful was our server Stephanie. She was knowledgeable and personable and had some great recommendations especially for my choice of white wine. My friend's dessert of chocolate macaroons with chocolate covered matzoh was delish. And we received an extra dessert not even on the menu made just for us. Smart to do and very much appreciated. Will definitely return and ask for Stephanie!
Excellent food. Me and my daughter eat plant based diets, my brother in law is a carnivore and eats gluten free and my sister in law is not restricted in her choices. There was something delicious for us all. My daughter and I really enjoyed the Mezze vegetable dishes (roasted cauliflower, Israeli salad, green eggplant salad and beet salad without burrata. They were all really well done with interesting flavors. My favorites were the cauliflower and green eggplant salad. My brother in law had the hanger steak which he said was excellent and my sister in law had the chicken schnitzel, which she loved. My brother in law had the halva parfait, which he described as "outstanding". They didn't have any vegan dessert options on the menu, which was a disappointment. The staff was very gracious and came up with a passion fruit sorbet for my daughter and I. It was nice and light.
My main wishes are for the chef to put a vegan entree option and dessert option on the menu.
The staff was a little spread out. I noticed our server was doubling at the bar, so she had a lot to handle.
I would definitely go back again.
A lovely dining experience.
Someone highly recommended this place to us.
But it was a great let down. Food was suppose to be Mediterranean but but a confused mix of flavours that left us underwhelmed.
The best thing on the menu were the Churros in a Mediterranean restaurant.
Never recommending it to anyone.
absolutely outstanding in every way, food and hospitality were fantastic. waitress gaby knew the menu and chef lenny came to the table too. small plates were shareable, larger plates were also shareable for the 4 of us. fresh ingredients served in a very imaginative way. hummus, baba ganoush, lamb cigars , great tzizki were outstanding. and the topper was the halvah parfait for dessert. cant wait to go back and try the rest of the menu.
We are always amazed every time we dine here. It is one of the most excellent restaurants around. Their food selections are inventive, unique and delicious. The foie gras may be best we've had anywhere(including Paris). The service is always efficient and friendly and the prices, quite reasonable.
