Lola Costal Mexican - Denver Ratings and Reviews
We were there for their Old School Hip Hop Brunch...literally two of my favorite things in the world, Mexican food and Hip Hop, together in an epic brunch experience. The food and the drinks for so good and the ambiance was incredible. I would go back to Denver just to go to this restaurant.
Another great experience at Lola -- Sunday brunch food is great -- the crab cakes benedict with sweet potato kale side is outstanding, as always. Wait people were attentive and particularly friendly, also as always. And don't leave without a side of donuts!
Lola is a reliable standby. A warm atmosphere, friendly staff, relaxed seating and fabulous food. The menu changes regularly but not too frequently - or too much. Favorites remain - breakfast plates, the made-at-the-table guac, and of course the amazing bloody marys! It would take a lot to knock this place off my personal Top Five Brunch Spots list.
We decided on Lola because we had been once before for Happy Hour before a show. I also have great respect for Big Red F restaurants in general.
We had brunch on a Sunday, were cheerfully a greeted, got a table right away. Our server was very friendly and was present when we need him.
The food was good in general except that I had the Crab Cake Benedict and it was very mushy and just did not have a "fresh" character or flavor. I was prepared to be blown away, as I have become accustomed to with this restaurant group, but this food experience makes me hesitant to be adventurous in the future.
Great place, maybe this was just an exception to the rule...
Brunch was delicious! We celebrated our anniversary and were complimented with two glasses of Champagne and dessert. The staff were welcoming and new how to take care of us. The best part of LOLA was the chicken and waffles!!! To die for! I am Latin and it was Southern Comfort food with a Mexican Twist.
We were four friends on a girls weekend in Denver. I reserved a table at Lola in advance, and after looking at the menu with my friends, we all were excited to eat there. We had to wait a few minutes after our reservation time for our table to be ready, and once we were seated, the table side guacamole cart was brought to us, and we were given a free guac as thanks for our patience. It was completely unnecessary (we waited less than 10 mins), but very thoughtful and much appreciated (our group LOVES guac, we were going to order it anyway :)) All of our meals were tasty, the drinks were fab, especially the Lady Killer, the energy was great, and we had a fun evening out! My only negative comment was that it was very loud in the restaurant, which did make some conversation difficult. All in all, we would highly recommend Lola!
The table side guacamole is always wonderful! The rest of the food was good, but not outstanding. The carne asada was tough (even when done at medium rare), so I wouldn't order that again. I like their happy hour menu better than their dinner menu. The drinks are always good though.
Our group had a great time - excellent food, attentive wait staff, good atmosphere, not too loud. The quality of the food was definitely very good. Shrimp and grits was amazing, as was the cochinita pibil. The other people in our group also really enjoyed it.
Lola was fantastic! It's been a couple of years since we've been there and we have been missing out! Food, service, ambiance- everything was perfect. Salsas were amazing- we ended up getting all four. We are in Chicago regularly and eat at Frontera and this was every bit as good.
Okay, but not what it used to be. This visit was very average compared to previous visits over the 7 years we've been dining at Lola. To begin, they have changed their tap beer offerings and offer only one Mexican Lager beer on tap (brewed in Colorado); bottle selections were not as good either. In addition, the wine selections were limited and they were out of some offerings. Food menu was okay, but also not as good as it used to be. I had the Shrimp & Grits and for $22 there were only 3 medium(ish) bacon wrapped shrimp and a scoop of grits. My daughter had the tacos and she said they were also just okay. I feel like Lola has created an average sized menu with so so entrees and kept the prices at or near the days when it was a fantastic place to eat and drink. I hope Lola returns to the Lola of the past- it was fantastic!
The food was to die for and the service was above and beyond. We had a diner with multiple allergies and they bent over backwards to accommodate. The atmosphere was fun and eclectic, with a live band playing just after brunch ended. Table-side guacamole service was both entertaining and delicious. Some of the best salsa I have ever tasted. Amazing chicken and waffles and the smoked trout was also a highlight.
We took our 3-year-old daughter to the aquarium and then drove down this way to see what we could find for lunch. So we did not have reservations on a Sunday afternoon at noon, nor had we ever been to Lola before. When we walked in and answered that we did not have reservations, the hostess, who was extremely polite, informed us of a 25 minute wait and asked us to sit in the open seating area. The hostess then came back less than 4 minutes later and announced they were cleaning a table for us (good thing because my toddler was not a fan of the high seating).
We ordered the Lola Guacamole which was made table-side, by a guy who did NOT seem happy to be the "guacamole guy" and did not smile one single time, but we forgave him for that because he made phenomenal guac. Like I wanted to scoop it and eat it with my hands, it was SO good. He scared me with the amount of jalapenos he put in there (like WHOA dude), but the heat level was perfect. Our server was incredibly friendly, although it felt a tiny bit forced. Like he didn't seem like someone who spent much time with kids. But he was definitely on top of his game and smiled a LOT.
My husband ordered the chicken fried steak and declared it the best he's ever had. I had the Lolaburguesa with an over-easy egg and was definitely happy with my choice. The only tiny negative I have to say is I ordered the El Admiral for our daughter - off of the kids' menu - and she was served the adult meal from the brunch menu. It's obvious that even though they are kid-friendly here...maybe they don't get all that many kids in? I don't blame them for that though. It definitely felt like a slightly upper-scale hipster joint and I can't wait to come back for a dinner here with my husband.
The food was phenomenal and the ambiance is SO fun. I highly recommend! (Although I'd only bring a kiddo during daylight or lunch/brunch.)
Great! We have been experiencing new places for brunch and this is definitely one to come back to. The deviled eggs are a must. The heat and flavors on all the entrees are done to perfection (at least my plate did at the time.) This is the second time I have been here and I haven't been disappointed ...yet. So far so good. Green chilie biollie...not sure the spelling of the dish...delicious. Horchata pancakes, are light and tasteful. In season mimosas was a different twist that I wasn't used to and I liked it. Good job Lola.
This restaurant was great for out of town guest! We had a large group of 7 and a few allergies including Nut and Gluten. The server was well informed and knowledgeable about the food and made our guests feel safe with what was being prepared for them. The atmosphere was lively and walkability was great for after dinner to walk around.
We came to Lola for Brunch and were not disappointed!! The guacamole (made tableside) was a great hit. The coconut bread was also a favorite. We also tried a couple of cocktails and both were very tasty.
I was a little apprehensive to try brunch here as I don't care for my food to be very spicy. But I had the biscuits & chorizo gravy with eggs and it was great.
The prices were good and we will definitely be back!
