Lokal - Wicker Park
This European-flecked neighborhood restaurant gets the urban vibe going with its stylish interior dressed in square tables, white molded chairs, and large canvases of modern art. The lounge area hosts guest DJs who pump up the volume when the lights go down, augmenting the retro feel. At Lokal - Wicker Park, lunch and dinner offer wholly different experiences, but each is worthy on its own. Brunches include: Duck Confit Benedict, Braised Pork Belly, French Omelets; while the dinner menu is more complex (showcasing the likes of NY Steak with truffle fries and apple slaw, Pork Tenderloin with potato pancake and mushroom cream or Goat Cheese Risotto with confit tomatoes, sweet peas and butternuts squash) . Lokal - Wicker Park is lauded for its fresh, first-rate ingredients often supplied by local farmers including Gunthrrop Farm, Nichols Farm, AquaTerra Farms and others.
Food was excellent but the service was sub par. The noise level also makes it difficult to communicate with your party. I love loud music but the music was way to loud. You can go elsewhere for half the price and better service
Good music. Excellent deal on bottomless mimosas.
We arrived at the restaurant for a 745pm reservation on a Saturday evening to find cleaning supplies and chairs on the tables. It was unexpected experience and we decided to find other options for dinner.
We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation to an empty restaurant. Door was open but nobody to seat us. After stepping outside to reassess, we finally saw someone inside. We went in only to be rudely told they were closed “but we might open in an hour” and I said well we had a reservation and the lady said “we are closed”. No further explanation. And we never received any communication that our reservation could not be honored. Poor experience and will NOT be giving them a try in the future.
Food was really good service could be a lot better and the music is super loud
They didn’t even seat us and the hostess forgot about us after 20 minutes.
I made a reservation and still had to wait 45mins. We finally got a table for two, but there was only 1 chair! we waited a few extra minutes, but decided to walk out. There was no guarantee that the waitress was going to find us an additional chair in reasonable time. It was very unorganized.
Bottomless brunch is great and the food is yummy. Definitely recommend.
music was way too loud.
I was there for an hour without being acknowledged. Went up to the hostess seating groups and flat out said “we are too busy right now, will come back when something opens up”
What’s the point of a reservations?! Got in at 1:15pm and left at 2:30 when my reservation was for 1:30pm. What a waste of my time and everyone else’s that walked in and walked out
Made a reservation still waited for a bout an hour
Lokal is a hip spot with unique food and a bumpin atmosphere! I would not recommend it if you’re looking for a quiet relaxing spot to chat and sip tea with friends. However, if you are looking to indulge with friends and sip mimosas to some modern beats I’d definitely reccomend this place. The wait can’t be long so definitely reserve a table if you can. Overall a fun experience with the right group!
Lokal needs a better solution for the ridiculously long lines. Despite having a reservation, we couldn’t even get through the mass of people immediately inside the door to tell them we had arrived. Would be better if people could put down their numbers and then go elsewhere to wait and get a text when their table is ready or almost ready.
I booked a table in advance and when we got there still had to wait an hour for our table. Really noise place and very difficult to keep up a conversation in that environment.
Upon entering the restaurant we knew we had made a mistake. We wanted a nice Sunday brunch but ended up being served water in plastic cups and had to scream to hear one another. We bit the bullet and ordered drinks STRICTLY for the purpose of making the experience less miserable. In the end, we got a little drunk and it wasn’t that bad. Food menu was disappointing, but my goat cheese omelet was alright. Good potatoes now that i think about it. DONT order the fried sausage, it was an awkward meal. I would ONLY come here if I was with a group of friends that I didn’t really care about wanting to black out on a Saturday for cheap.
the music was turned up to about a 15 and i had to yell to be heard across the table to my date. would not recommend for anything other than partying or live sports.
Noisy to the level you could not hear yourself. Bathrooms dirty. Ended up walking out.
Me and my friends had a good time it’s just that the server was really busy and wasn’t that much engaged like she didn’t check on us and she charged our cards for double of what we should have paid. I get it people be busy but she should have asked for help.
Disappointed in the brunch experience at LoKal overall. Most of the table ordered bottomless mimosas or champagne and it was far from bottomless (one carafe of mimosas for three people, one smaller carafe of champagne for two people) The menu states it is bottomless for 1.5 hours but our server took our order and never checked in again except to bring the check. Food was decent but nothing that I can't find somewhere else with better service. As far as the vibe, the atmosphere is pretty loud/rowdy which was fine and isn't uncommon for bottomless brunch spots.
Went for brunch New Years day. This was my second time here and the vibe was completely different from the first. Restaurant was nearly empty. Music started loud, but got quieter as we stayed. I enjoyed the "loud" vibe last time and missed it this time. Food is ok...you go for the bottomless drinks--My mimosas tasted funny this time, too..but drinking more of them fixed that problem. Also met the owner and his wife, nice people!
Lokal is the place to be when it comes to brunch! The food is delicious, the music is dope, and the service is incredible- not once have we had a bad experience there. If you’re looking for something that’s upbeat, and a party experience for your next weekend brunch, I promise Lokal won’t disappoint
My group of 8 showed up for our 2 p.m reservation for Sunday brunch. There were people lined up to the door waiting for a table. It was almost impossible to find the hostess. We were told we would be seated when a table got up but no one was leaving. The music was insanely loud. Our party ended up leaving because there was no way we were going to get a table. Why have a reservation system if you can't guarantee a table. The place was too loud and understaffed.
Service and food was fantastic! But by 11:30 am it was so loud it was like a club
Go for brunch. Food is good here, but it’s like the stopped trying for dinner.
everything was great but the server Jinelly charged an extra tip on my card that I did not add since tip was already included at 20%
It was a bad experience. I won’t go back. Food was not great. From yelp pics, this place looks nice. It turned out to be just plain ugly.
So much fun! Wish there was more space. But the vibes were fun music was good, & they were generous with the mimosas!
Sunday, December 16th 2018 I had theeeeee WORST hostess ever. All she did was dance and sing with her friends. I had a 1:30 reservation and she didn’t even seat us until 3:00. She let people go ahead of us, and even had an attitude. We finally sat down at a table that had been open for more than 20 minutes. Table was extremely small and not suitable for 3 people (even though i made the reservation for 3) .My waitress was really nice! Kudos to her! She definitely changed my mood. She was pregnant and glowing. I would have expected her to be nasty as well, but was a pleasant surprise.
Made a reservation and didn’t have to wait in the long line. There internet was down and it was cash only. It was super inconvenient to go to the bank and take money out. Also I was over charged for the food. When I asked the waiter he ignored me. Double check your bill before paying.
10/10 no complaints. Music and food were both incredible!
Made a reservation two weeks in advance for 9 people. The day of, most of us were on time for the reservation but a few were late and we were told we couldn’t be seated until the entire party was here—no problem at all. However, we waited in the front of the restaurant for about 10 minutes before a hostess even approached us. We were a little concerned while waiting for the rest of our party, because it didn’t look like there was a table available for us to sit even when everyone did get there. The rest of our party arrived about 10 minutes after our reservation time and we told the hostess we were ready. She said to wait a few minutes while they got a table ready. You can see the entire dining room from the front of the restaurant and there were clearly no available tables large enough for our party. We proceeded to wait almost 20 more minutes before asking the waitress when we might be seated. She tells us that a large party was finishing up, so we would be seated in another 20 minutes, almost an hour after our original reservation time. It wasn’t that we arrived late and they gave away our table—there was never a table ready for our group in the first place. We chose to leave and go somewhere else. The hostess was rude and actively ignored us the entire time we were waiting. We live in the area and will not be returning. Really disappointed with the experience.
I used to love going to Lokal. I went on a Friday night for dinner with friends. When I got there just before 7pm, the place was empty. The bartender/server was excellent and very knowledgeable. But the restaurant was in total disarray. Chairs were stacked up in the back, there were boxes around. It appears that their focus is now on it being a late night bar with a DJ and a weekend brunch spot. But there was no one there early. Two couples came in and sat at the bar and then left. I decided to stay and the food was good. They should set up the tables and serve dinner and then add music later in the evening. I poked my head in the kitchen and it looked dirty and the bathroom was filthy. With no one in the restaurant, and a large menu, I wonder how fresh the food was. The bartender was great and made a great cocktail and the wines were good. But right now it is not working and something needs to change.
Service is great and food is fresh! The energy in the place is amazing. Bottomless mimosa's are a must!
HORRIBLE wait staff. I made a reservation for 11:30, and after over 30 minutes of STILL awaiting, my party and I had to leave. We kept telling the hostess about our reservation, and she was rude and inattentive. She knew my large party was waiting and instead just kept walking past us to seat other people and would avoid eye contact. How can you make a reservation almost a week before the date for a large party and not have the space available? Rude, lazy & no care for customers. Also, the music was mind-numbingly loud. Go to the Lincoln Park location if you must, but honestly, after my experience with wicker, I don’t want to give this franchise any of my money.
Had such a fun and great time. It was my first time here so when I walked into the restaurant and was hit with very loud music I already knew it felt like a good time. Our server was the best and friendly person. Even though it was super loud you were still able to enjoy your time.
Made reservation for 9am, walked in (door unlocked?) and the guy at the front said they’re closed and they may not open today, and if they do it might be at 10am. Ridiculous
Atmosphere is fun and energetic with a mix of popular music. Food is good. Service is slow but everyone is very nice
Great environment and the food is delicious! I have a blast every time I visit.
Crowded and fairly small compared to how popular it is. Still great music and great overall energy and vibe.
we had to wait an hour for our table even though we had a reservation
