Alex and Peter treat us like family ....
the food and service was spectacular
Occasion: Goodbye dinner for a work colleague who announced that he was leaving our firm
Because I wanted the occasion to be memorable, I chose Estiatorio Loi. I had been there four times before (including a birthday dinner for my wife) and had been impressed by each time. As an indicator of my fondness for the food, character and ambience, I would have had us both travel there for dinner even if it hadn’t been near our offices.
The menu by celebrity chef Maria Loi (personable and endearing) is a novel and delectable reinterpretation of traditional Greek cuisine.
Example: Yes, Greeks love grilled octopus. It is typically served either in whole tentacle form or in cylindrical chunks. Loi goes one better by slicing it thinly and serving atop a small hill of fava purée. Delicious!
The traditional kataifi dessert is turned on its head (literally) by Loi, who uses honey-soaked shredded fillo as a base for a custard topping of her own design. (It was amazing.)
The wine selection includes a number of undervalued Greek whites and reds, and dessert wine options include the fabled Mavrodafni, a sweet fortified wine which stands tall as a worthy alternative to sherry or port to round out a great meal, as low-volume bouzouki music suffuses the experience without intruding.
Estiatorio Loi has it all, including warmth. Maria is accessible to diners, and Aleko manages the floor with warmth, knowledge, and Greek hospitality (filoxenia).
This establishment has my unqualified commendation, and I recommend that anyone interested in a great all-around experience at least dine their once.
Wonderful, fresh flavorful food. Met the Chef and owner Maria Loi. Wonderful lady. Terrific lunch.
Always enjoy eating at Loi’s and Branzino was exceptional.
Fantastic dining experience. Very friendly people w excellent food.
Great family feel amongst the staff and authentic greek food. Yammas!
Will be a regular!
I was able to make a reservation because a friend from Spain recomended, I live in CA and was in NY for business. Great ambiance food is delicious and healthy!. I went for a dinner, and it was fantastic, quiet, I will absolutely go back .
Fantastic experience!!! The charm, the quality, the hospitality all make this place uniquely satisfying!!!
This was my second visit, I met friends from out of town and we were not disappointed. Wonderful meal, excellent service.
We reserved at Loi (first time customers) because it was near Carnegie Hall where we had tickets. Reception is warm and seats are comfortable but the food was lackluster. Grilled bronzino lacked crisp skin and fresh flavor, spanakopita was a spinach strudel, spreads were sub-par. Service was friendly but a request for more bread went unfulfilled. At ~$90 for dinner it was disappointing.
Excellent place, the chef is amazing and very friendly!
Chef LOI came out to meet us and ask for our opinions. She was lovely and very accommodating as was her staff. Food was good. Nice portions and great taste.
LOI never disappoints. From the entrance to the exit and everything in between the meal is always a treat.
Phenomenal Food and Service.....Maria and her team are as good as it gets in NYC!
Thank you Alex and Loi for a wonderful experience at your restaurant and making our anniversary celebration special. We look forward to our return in the summer with both our sons (the double bassists). Your dishes are forever embedded in our memories.
Love this restaurant!! Met Maria Loi. Wonderful chef
and personable lady. Would eat here every day if lived in area. Healthy ingredients.
Loi has been at this spot for 3 wonderful years. She is the best
I don't mind spending $100 a person for food and I'm know I'm paying for Manhattan atmosphere. The portions could have been somewhat larger. I left the restaurant hungry within 30 minutes.
Fabulous!! Great ambiance, food delicious. I am not a fan of Greek Wine...use to the California stuff but they found a match.
The cuisine is exceptional and the owner, Maria Loi, goes out of her way to insure that every guest is treated beautifully. As I have a number of dietary restrictions, Maria and the kitchen painstakingly create delicious menus for me and those that are dining directly off the menu. The food is fresh and superior. I can't recommend this place highly enough!
An amazing restaurant in midtown west that elevates Greek food to amazing heights. Greek food is delicious to start with and Chef Maria Loi takes it to the next level. The Asyrtiko white grape from Santorini makes an amazing white wine. My favorite dishes are the Octopus and the Lamb Shank. Highly recommended.
Best octopus and Brandi o ever!! The Dips are incredible and so thrilling to know you can get them at WholeFoods now!!!!
Maria is a talented chef who clearly loves what she does. Everything was delicious!!
Fantastic Greek food with very friendly staff. Would highly recommend
spectacular food, great hostess, warm and inviting atmosphere - a lovely place to dine
The owner is extremely friendly and has an interesting background. The meal was delicious from beginning to end.
Loi is a wonderful Greek restaurant - a hidden neighborhood gem with outstanding food, great service, and Maria, the owner is a great chef, wonderful conversationalist and runs a terrific restaurant
Maria is the best!
Maria, Alex and the team at Loi’s run a tight ship! Excellence all around. It is a wonderful spot for lunch, dinner, any occasion.
Osobuco soup was very good. My entrée (shrimp with pasta) was poor: not much flavor and pasta was very overcooked and mushy. They were out of the first two desserts we ordered. Then, rather than bringing me the dessert I ordered, they split it into four mini-servings for the table. Service was lackluster although restaurant was not crowded. It was hard to get waiter's attention. Waiter poured fresh wine into a used beer glass instead of bringing new glass. Given the upscale prices here, food and service were very disappointing.
The food here is very good, perhaps not Milos but then not $125 for a lobster salad either. The Greek salad would be better with heirloom tomatoes, but the octopus and in particular the tiger shrimp (huge, practically lobster tails) were outstanding. Desert, a typical Greek walnut/pistachio/honey concoction was very good, and the pre-dessert of home-made yoghurt was outstanding. Definitely a worthwhile place.
A warm and welcoming place for excellent Greek food, not masquerading as anything else. Comfortable and attractive interior matched by attentive service and lovely touches such as the delicious homemade corn bread and pita served to the table and the outstanding little dish of homemade greek yogurt served at the end. If you love a wonderfully comforting bowl of bean soup, a classic moussaka, or a great grilled octopus, you will not be disappointed.
Chef Loi is the best. Always an amazing experience. Eat here. You’ll be happy you did.
We had impeccable service… The food was amazing… The octopus Carpaccio was out of this world…as well as the lamb shank, lamb chops and Branzino...highly recommended !❤️
Went for lunch and the only good taste was the eggplant dip. All the interesting dishes had a large supplementary charge. The pita was stale and baked until rock hard. The crabcakes were all filler. The kataif was soggy. Won't go back. As far as the service, they brought the main course while we were eating the appetizers.
This is a very special restaurant and we had a fantastic dining experience. The food is amazing and the service second to none. We had the best meal in NYC and we have been to many top restaurants. Chef Loi is a wonderful and caring person who made us feel at home. Can't wait to go back and I recommend this to all. It is a must visit!!
Outstanding in every respect. Great food and great service. Even the clientele is excellent - friendly and classy people.
great service, delicious meal of authentic Greek with new and inspired twists.
Loi is one of the best restaurants in NYC. The food is always fresh and creative and the chef/owner, Maria Loi, is a national treasure.
You are made to feel right at home as you dine on one delicious course after another. Favorites include the fantastic Greek salad with the best Feta cheese ever, the fabulous crab cakes, and the superb branzino. For dessert, you won’t find better baklava and yougurt and honey.
Great service, delicious food, nice ambiance.
