Logan - An American Restaurant
Logan is/was the perfect/best restaurant until....started with "National Rum Day" cocktail (perfect), next the seafood salad (perfect), next the smaller version of the perch tempura dinner (perfect) accompanied by the cheesy grits (perfect) and ended with the peach dessert (imperfect, the showstopper fruit was totally bland, and surprising since peaches are peaking in Michigan, what few are available)
We had a great dinner. My wife and I expected that since we come here often. The couple with us were first-timers, and they were just as pleased. We missed the sommelier, however. Hope a new one joins the team soon. Kevin was excellent!
Our server, Kyle, was outstanding. Made us feel very welcome and explained lots of dishes in great detail
This may be the finest restaurant in Ann Arbor and our favorite for special occasions. Every element of this dinner was perfect - - food, service, and atmosphere. One of the most important aspects of Logan is its consistency. We've never had a night where something was "off" and this evening was no exception.
The quality if service has dropped. Bread served with no plates to put them on. Getting the food was very slow. Food excellent.
Very disappointing. Made reservations to celebrate our 33rd anniversary. We were rushed in, our appetizer came at the same time as our entrees. We were not offered any bread (other tables were). My glass of wine didn't come until we're were half-way through, and we were rushed out. Server brought the check and unceremoniously plopped it down without even asking if we wanted dessert. To be clear, we are an adult couple who were nicely dressed. Probably the last time we will eat at Logan. There are too many options for good food AND good service in Ann Arbor.
Service and food was excellent—menu has a wide variety for every taste
The food was Fabulous! Our waiter, Z-Ed was wonderful. Ryan was warm and welcoming. We decided to share a few small plates. The Wild Boar Ragu was out of this world! The leg of lamb with celery root puree and fennel sauce was delicious! The potato side dish was excellent. And the brownies with pistachio bacon ice cream - the perfect way to finish off a truly unique dinner! Can't wait to come back again!
We have visited Logan several times recently. When we go early, it is pleasantly quiet, and service is quite attentive. Some dishes are outstanding (seafood salad, wild boar bolognese, tuna, soups...) , others are okay but surprisingly not so special (duck special.) Nonetheless, for the service, price, and especially the option on many dishes to order a smaller portion, we will return.
We have never been disappointed with a meal at Logan; in fact we are routinely delighted with the quality of the food, the service, and the ambiance. This last trip was no exception. It has become our go-to for birthdays and anniversaries and other special occasions.
Best overall restaurant in Ann Arbor
If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would! My boyfriend and I went there for an early anniversary dinner and couldn't have been happier with our experience. We shared appetizers and petite plates, and they also had an option to do a five course tasting menu which we will probably do the next time we go there because we will definitely be back! Our server was friendly and helpful, the cocktails and wine were delicious, and the place wasn't loud even with it being such a small place. Such a good pick for our anniversary dinner!
I am a long-time guest of Logan...bet I have dined there close to 50 times, usually with my husband. Clearly we are fans. Dined there July 30th, this time for a girls night out. Everyone fully enjoyed their drinks, salads, entrees...and were most appreciative of the petite portion option. Because of my many times there, I noticed some small "offs". I have come to look forward to the creative amuse-bouche in past visits...but none was given this time. The food and yummy bread service arrived warm, but far from piping hot. But the biggest "off" was when I asked where Kevin Hobart, wine sommelier extraordinaire, was. Never in all my visits could I remember a time when Kevin wasn't there. That's when I was told that Kevin was no longer at Logan. Nooooooooo! 😭😭😭 My husband and I always relied on Kevin to pick a bottle for us that would compliment, say, both a fish and pork entree...and he was always right! Plus we so enjoyed Kevin regaling us with stories about the wine he had chosen...the family who owns that vineyard, which side of the mountain this grape grew on, etc. Kevin was a HUGE part of the Logan experience for us. We will miss his warm greetings...we always felt like old friends being welcomed back. Now when we go, which we will but may not be as often, we'll feel like unknown nobodies.
Loved everything about it, the food, the service, the menu! Will definitely be back!
The menu was creative, and the food fresh and flavorful. This will become a staple in my list of go-to local favorites!
I had wanted to go to Logan to try the wild boar bolognese, and was richly rewarded! So savory, I can hardly wait to go back for more. We also enjoyed the Greek lamb. Our server was charming, knowledgeable and very accommodating if terms of timing the courses.
A feature we really appreciate at Logan is the option to order half portions of most dishes on the menu.
As the evening wore on and the restaurant filled, it was difficult to maintain a conversation. If that is a problem for others I suggest going closer to 5 than to 6.
Doesn’t matter where we are in the US or Europe: we always end the evening with ‘it was wonderful. But it’s no Logan’. Ann Arbor’s gem is second to none.
Logan has consistently delivered excellent service and delicious food. We feel it is currently the best restaurant in Ann Arbor.
Service was good. Food was great. Love that they offered both petite and full portions. Reasonable prices.
Small restaurant in downtown Ann Arbor, with terrific short ribs (one of their signature dishes). My wife was very happy with the duck confit. Frankly, as much as I liked that dish, the short ribs were better, with a sauce worthy of extra bread.
One minor gripe: I personally prefer 'proper' bread rather than the corn bread that was on offer. Personal choice of course.
Cocktails were well thought-out, although I do wish there were more non-alcoholic options for drivers. Something to consider for the future.
Waitress other staff were competent and attentive.
Expensive for the small quantity of food. Good taste.
We went for our anniversary. The food is obviously fresh and very well prepared, while the wait staff was friendly. The atmosphere was more casual than I expected, but still refined-which was a pleasant surprise. A nice feature of the menu is that one can order smaller portions for a reduced price. All in all we won’t wait for a special occasion as a reason to return.
Great service. The scallops were amazing. Shorts ribs and cheese grits are a favorite too. Tasty and romantic, one of our favorite spots for fine dining.
Nice find in Ann Arbor. Service energetic but not intrusive. Noise level excellent for a smaller place that was almost full. Top notch cocktails and food with a few minor culinary hiccups. Duck dish was good, but duck by itself could have had more seasoning. Scallop dish was as good as scallops can get, and bacon tempura salad with arugula should be called the best breakfast in Ann Arbor, but they don’t open till 5pm so can’t wait to go back as the rest of the menu looks inventive and creative.
Great food and great presentation. You pay a little more, but it's worth it.
This was my 2nd time dining at Logan. The 1st was excellent. This time my meal was uninspired, bland. My dining partners enjoyed their meals, but the one with the duck found the portion to be small. We've had much better meals at other less expensive restaurants around Ann Arbor. Generally disappointed.
Every course was fantastic. Server did an excellent job of providing details of the dish
Went for our anniversary as we had enjoyed Logan before. It was a wonderful experience from the seating, wait staff, food and wine. It was the perfect place to celebrate. Would recommend it to anyone.
Food was outstanding and reasonably priced, however our server was less than responsive. We waited too long after being seated for her to come to the table, didn’t ask us if we wanted bread while we waited for our meal, and never checked on us while we were eating. We had to ask another server if she could ask ours to bring our check, and then we had to sit and wait far too long for her to pick it up. Maybe she was just having a bad night - it was the only negative of the meal.
In the running for best restaurant in Ann Arbor. A step above most of the other Main Street places, which is an accomplishment. The waiters attention to tiny details is noticeable; for instance the waiter stepped to each of our seats individually to set our drinks down as not to reach. All of the food was superb, and much of it comes in petite & full sizes so you can try multiple things. It is definitely pricey, but an excellent place for a nice occasion. Highly recommend the scallops.
I always enjoy the food, service and overall experience at Logan. It is consistently that good. Sincerely, a finicky Ann Arbor resident and food snob.
This is our favorite restaurant! I love the colors that surround you; waitstaff is very knowledgeable; food is great.
Service was painfully slow.
Went for Restaurant Week with a reservation for the first time at this restaurant. I have gone to other nice restaurants during Restaurant Week and realize it can be a little slower and that sometimes the portions aren’t as big as the typical menu. Logan went way overboard on both counts. It took so incredibly long that I was starving by the time I got my salad, which came on a comically small plate with only enough for a few bites. All the portions were teeny (directly compared to other really nice restaurants in Ann Arbor during Restaurant Week!) and I wasn’t thrilled enough by the food (although tasty) to make it seem worth it. The service was good, and I got the wine pairings which were delivered shortly before each course and a fine value for decent wine. I had previously thought this could be a date spot but I wouldn’t take a man here if they are calling something a “three course meal” that didn’t even fill up anyone at our table of petite women. Maybe the regular portions are better but I’m not going to bother to find out.
Loved our dinner at Logan! My mom and I went for our first dining experience during restaurant week and had a lovely array of food. Zied was our server and was exceptional.
My girlfriend and I came for Ann Arbor restaurant week. The food was really good!
Great service, but misses on the short ribs which were fatty, and the miso lemon pasta which was sweet and was missing lemon. Wine choices for the restaurant week flight were on the mark.
Enjoyed a wonderful meal at Logan during Ann Arbor restaurant week! As always, the food and service were great. It is always a special occasion when we visit Logan.
