Logan - An American Restaurant
A truly great dining experience: knowledgeable staff: great wines: even better food. We felt like royalty.
Logan has (finally) changed their menu a bit and it is an improvement. The smaller portion option appeals to us geezers. They have maintained the quality of the food. I find the dessert menu boring but otherwise it is an excellent special occasion restaurant.
Expensive but the food was interesting and delicious. Cocktails have really improved and suggested wine pairings were spot on. A very nice evening out for a special occasion.
The food was delicious. The chef is amazing with a potato dish that was new to us (which isn't easy!). 3.25 hours for three courses - worth every minute, but obviously don't expect to get in and out quickly.
Great food and wine.
Food was really great. Interesting and diverse menu. Loved the half course pasta and my dinner special "trout". Staff was very friendly but we just seemed to have confusion getting our drinks or wine, nothing serious to complain about. Will go back again for sure.
Great food. We had the scallops which were one of the most creative I’ve had. Short rib was outstanding. Go eat there!!!
One of our new favorites in the area. The menu has a lot of creative options that don’t disappoint.
Outstanding service as always. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday. The food was amazing- the true expression of a great chef! The ambience was beautiful as usual. Kevin matched our courses with wine perfectly. Going back to Logan is like spending time with an old friend, never disappoints and you can catch up on the new elements of a great menu. A perfect evening!
(Photos: a perfectly prepared rainbow trout that lets the fish shine; beef bourguignon that melts in your mouth; and a chocolate mouse dessert to die for!)
We had heard for years about how great this restaurant was, so were excited to finally go there for a birthday. Our response is, to quote Public Enemy, "don't believe the hype." One of the party (of 4) did not think that the meal was that good, two thought the Thai scallops were great, and one thought that the confit of duck leg, while good, certainly did not match the claims of the results of the 10-hour process; it was like a good roasted duck leg (the sides accompanying it were highly praised, however). Two different desserts were shared by the two pairs of people, and they were both extremely good. A cheese appetizer was interesting, but could have benefited from a couple of crackers or flatbread pieces. Even with an awareness of the prices going in, the meal did not come across as a good value-5 scallops in the Thai scallops dish came out to $8/scallop, which is a lot, even considering the very good sauce accompanying them.
The main failing of Logan on our visit was the service, which cannot be characterized as anything but lousy. It took 20+ minutes to get served drinks after ordering (just over a dozen tables were staffed by 3 servers; two additional people were behind the bar, plus a manager/sommelier). Salads and entrees came in a little more timely fashion, but this struck all in the party as a real failing of the establishment. The entrees were somewhat tepid when they arrived.
All things considered, we will not be returning to Logan.
As usual, Logan is a great place to have dinner. Excellent menu, well prepared dishes, very good wine list, and a very comfortable and not too noisy ambience. On this visit, with the restaurant very crowded (probably due to the vintage car show outside) the service was much slower than usual....but still very friendly and caring. Logan is an Ann Arbor gem, and a very cozy, friendly, and tasty place to have a great meal!
Food was fantastic and service very good. Would recommend for date night. Try the shrimp and grits....sooo good. The trout was perfect as well.
Logan has been our favorite local restaurant for many years, and we go there to celebrate our anniversary and other special occasions. I'm sad to say that this time it didn't live up to our expectations. First we had cocktails which were new and good. I ordered the crab and avocado starter which has been on the menu in some form for many years. This time the crab salad tasted of not much other than crab - no punch from the mustard - and actually a little fishy. Disappointing. For entrees, I also thought the scallops tasted a little fishy this time. I enjoyed the fried perch, though my husband disliked the sauce and the side papaya salad had a little too much fish sauce which made it very salty. The dining room also had some unpleasant aromas that evening (but not sure what exactly). The wines, as picked by the sommelier to go with our chosen dishes, were excellent and the pairings spot on as always. We will probably try again one more time - for the price, the entire experience really needs to be outstanding to keep us coming back.
Fantastic food and presentation, although some of the portions were a bit small; absolutely loved the fennel pollen creme brûlée! Our entrees included duck, quail, salmon, walleye and wild boar.
Sommelier was awesome, recommended wines for us based on our entrees and he was spot on!
Our party of 6 was promptly seated, excellent cocktails. Waitress was attentive but not intrusive and we did not feel rushed (spent 3 hours with our friends). 4 of us were celebrating birthdays and we each had a complimentary dessert. The chef came by our table and was very conversational, friendly, informative and engaging.
We were blown away by the quality of food - right from the amuse-bouche, to the parmesan & rosemary scones to the fried perch and chocolate mousse, we loved every bite and the wine complimented the food beautifully as well.
Well-worth the price and the service was great. I think it's a hidden gem in downtown Ann Arbor. We were there with my parents for my husband's birthday and we all agreed that it was by far one of the best meals we've had in North America in the past year +.
We will be going back asap :)
The food and the service is always great at Logan’s. I like that it is a small restaurant that showcases the food and customer experience.
We have been coming to Logan for a number of years. Always have a most enjoyable experience. Great wine selection and Kevin is always happy to help with his knowledgeable
selections. One of our all time favorites.
Excellent food. Great wait staff, place is very noisy.
A special evening with friends celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary. As always, an outstaniPlease do not hesitate to reach back if I can be of any assistance. Best,g dining experience.
The food was amazing, as usual! We always love the unique menu items. Our waitress was fabulous, she described everything in complete detail, she was well
Informed and so polite. It is always a pleasure to Dine at Logan!
We visited for restaurant week. Service was attentive and accurate but a bit cold; we didn't feel very welcome. Food was pretty good but not amazing or particularly creative.
Logan continues to offer creative, well-prepared food. The staff is knowledgeable and pleasant and management helps out during crunches. Has a small outdoor seating area. One of my favorites!
Great as always! Well done given the demands of restaurant week.
Went there for restaurant week. Otherwise, the price point is a little high for us. Great food though!
Very cordial staff. Accommodating chef. Knowledgeable waitress with great personality.
Nice wine selection. This place should easily thrive another ten years.
Excellent service, from hostess seating at a lovely window front table;
excellent attentive, but, not intrusive waiter;
and, as, always, wonderful food!
Pork tenderloins are phenomenal! Bolognese was a little salty, but overall everything was great!
Exceptional service! Best restaurant in Ann Arbor!
Having dined there previously, we knew what to expect: fine dining at a fair price.
Though the menu does not rotate as it did originally, there are still several reliable dishes, varied enough to meet most tastes.
Delicious creative unique food. Everything we tried was excellent. Even things that sounded a little strange, like fennel creme brulee, was wonderful. We felt like this was expensive but value was commensurate with price, which I can't say about all the expensive Ann Arbor spots.
Very competent and friendly service. Delicious meals served attractively. Diverse, well thought-out cocktails. Active and pleasant ambiance.
Starting with the yellow front to the street... I love the color, inside and out. I love the aesthetics of Logan—the space, the decor, the lighting. It all comes together to say fun, or romantic, or soothing, or delightful. Good food, good wine, great staff. My favorite place to eat in Ann Arbor,... and right next to my favorite place to hear some quiet jazz on the weekends at The Earle. I always recommend you. Thank you!
The food was amazing! The amuse bouche was delicious. We were not as impressed with the appetizers but the main courses and the dessert where amazing so that made up for it.
It was a lovely evening and meal for a dinner with visiting family members. Staff was attentive and helpful,
Kevin is helpful on the wine selection! Not that crowded tonight (Wednesday) so that accounted for low sound level. The server was very patient with multiple queries and requests.
It was a pleasant experience, the restaurant is lovely and the staff is friendly and accommodating. However the service was very slow. The food was fine, but not special. It lacked a certain freshness and subtlety.
My Wife and I had a great experience - one of the best meals we have ever had. Despite being earlier than they like on a Saturday, they allowed us to have the 5 course chef's table with Champagne pairing. Each dish was extremely well executed: plating, balance, flavor profile, etc. The pairing of the Champagne was perfect. We have had Chef's table meals with wine pairings at other places where the wine seemed like an after-thought, but at Logan the wine (Champagne in this case) was an integral part of the meal. The dish was raised by the Champagne; the Champagne was raised by the dish. They worked beautifully together - for all 5 courses. Service was excellent. Everyone was prompt, attentive, respectful, and courteous. Atmosphere is a bit crowded, but we never felt crowded. The sound level is managed well by the acoustic treatments on the ceiling. For the sake of perspective, the closest example of a similar meal was the Chef's table we had at The Whitney a few years back.
Fantastic food, great service, great ambiance. What more can you ask for?
Awesome food. Attentive and knowledgeable staff knows when to check in and when to let you enjoy your meal. Definitely the best restaurant in Ann Arbor.
We have been going to Logan since it opened, it is one of our favorites for a combination of the food, the biscuits, the cocktails, the wine list, the attention from Kevin about wine, the ambiance, the specials, and probably other things I'm forgetting.
This one time, the service was not what it has been, it wasn't attentive - we probably would have ordered more drinks had it been. We ran into some friends their who felt they were "kicked out" because of the next seating.
Regardless of those things, we will return to Logan at our earliest opportunity. The food is very good, the champagne this time was totally amazing, Kevin's attention to wine suits, at least, my tastes very well. And also the biscuits, seriously.
